SANS DIGITAL MS2T+B 2 Bay SATA to eSATA JBOD Hard Drive Storage Enclosure (Black)

I bought this as a stop-gap measure until I take a chance and buy another NAS. You see I made the mistake of spending $1500 on a Netgear NV+. Although Netgear advertises that the NV+ works with NFS, it doesn't...well not without certain "technical issues", let's say. After two RMAs and hours spent troubleshooting and talking with their idiotic tech support I finally gave up. The BBB couldn't help me as Netgear already have the lowest rating possible. Never again with Netgear.Anyway, on to this unit. Construction is excellent and the drives slide in easily once you install them in their cages.They thoughtfully include a PC backing plate with two eSATA plugs and a couple of good quality eSATA cables. Also included is backup software for Windows. An excellent and thoughtful plus! But since I'm on Linux It's no use to me.The unit has a built in fan and it's not too noisy. In a quite room you can barely hear it.There are 3 lights on the front panel and one each on the drive cages. The three on the front panel are power(green), temp(don't know) and fan(amber). The ones on the cages are for drive activity(blue). If your drives reach 70C the temp light comes on and, apparently, a audible alarm sounds. Hence there is a mute button on the front panel just in case you don't want to listen to the alarm and decide to run the unit until your drives cook themselves. ;)The drive cages also have a key of sorts. It's shaped like a key with a plastic pin on the end. You insert  it into its respective drive cage hole and the cage releases. It does provide a very little bit of protection from someone just popping out your drives.Performance is quite fast. I record 55 KB/s copying to the EXT3 HDD and 45 to the NTFS HDD. I've never bothered to measure read speeds and haven't had any trouble playing videos and music. Transfers go smoothly and without issues(Unlike the Netgear NV+ junk).The one thing I don't like is that the power button is on the back. Hopefully, overheat alarms are so rare that one would almost never use the mute button. Why not put the mute button on the back and the much more frequently used power button on the front. Oh well, nothings perfect, eh?I would highly recommend this unit for those that want to enter the eSATA world of data transfer and would, most definitely, buy the Sans Digital MS2T+B again.By the way, the B in the MS2T+B stands for black, the color of the unit. Worked right out of the box,but the included esata bracket cables were too short to reach the esata connectors on the MoBo.(4 stars only for features) No problem here, not knowing that they were included in the box I had ordered the Ultra 2 Port sSATA Pci Bracket seperately. Longer cables & easy to install.Prompt delivery-thank you
