Comment:
This laptop is my first laptop and it was purchased for school work as well as mobile gaming. I settled on this particular notebook after extensive browsing of many makes and models. So far I am satisfied with my purchase.Only Issue so far:It came pre-loaded with a ton of bloatware, and I had intended to just do a straight reformat to make it all my own setup, but the laptop didn't come with a Windows 7 reinstall disk. (The harddrive is partitioned into a Windows partition, a data partition, and a hidden recovery partition, BACKUP WITH ACRONIS BEFORE YOU REFORMAT, YOU CAN'T GET THE RECOVERY PARTITION BACK). Instead you have to make your own recovery disk (in my case, 5 DVDs). I settled on doing a sweep-uninstall of anything that I didn't want on my computer. Things to note:- The screen is not full HD: it is 1366x768 (not a huge issue for me)- The computer (when not using the video card) stays remarkably cool: I can lay in bed with this on top of my blanket and it barely goes above body temperature; when using the video card it does get warm, but not burning to the touch- Battery life is not extraordinary: when away from power you could probably squeeze about 4 hours of regular word processing and internet usage from it (again, not a huge issue for me)- Good sound: Although I'm not an audiophile, the sound that comes out of the speakers is quite good for a laptop- Decent Gaming experience: even though I haven't played many games on it yet, it appears to be very good at running them with decent graphics quality (so far SC2 and Company of Heroes run seamlessly). I plan to transfer Splinter Cell: Conviction and Crysis to it soon to do a more thorough test of its capabilities- No fingerprints on the outside: The top of the laptop sports an anodized aluminum finish which seems to be holding up against scratches and more importantly fingerprints. The top and palm-rest area of the laptop are finished with this, but the screen border has a glassy, fingerprint- and dust-attracting finish (which is easily cleaned with a soft cloth)- Sleek design: This notebook looks good, period. This is a big plus for me and I've received many comments on how sleek and good looking it isConclusion:I am very satisfied with the purchase of this laptop, and it was worth the three week wait for the newest and best laptop. The only issues I have had with it are related to the ASUS preloaded software (which is annoying to get around, but you can get it to do what you want eventually). If anything in this review changes appreciably, I will modify it.
