It is nevertheless functioning bought this an reviewed back in December from newegg with seagate 1TB HD. Ultimately filled up that TB so added Hitachi from ZZF sorry newegg couldnt say no to their value. Haven't tried JBOD I don't have an additional drive to unload a TB onto to create it up. All this terrible reviews make me be concerned. Transfers are OK practically nothing good. Taking 3 hours to move 202 GB. It is USB. I don't know if this will let me set up JBOD without reformatting my 1st drive so I'm not gonna likelihood it until I get a different drive to move it onto.

Appears nice. Quite simple to install. Can merge two drives to act as one. Has a constructed in fan. Energy light is obnoxiously bright. The fan is kind of loud, but I got employed to it. There have been no rubber feet on the bottom to commence with, so I had to acquire my personal; no biggie. Most significant annoyance was that there was no manual with the enclosure, other than installation. So when the drive enclosure failed (detailed beneath) and the indicator light turned red, there was no way to know what it meant devoid of calling. I practically panicked considering the drives inside had been dead. Purchased two of these at the exact same time. Remained stationary on my desk, working perfectly for about six months till last week when a single of them failed. It only took about 15 minutes of troubleshooting with tech help to find that the enclosure had died for some cause. The drives inside weren't harmed. The warranty method was easy. We'll see if they send it back as swiftly as they claim.

InexpensiveAll metal building Lots of fan cycling (as other reviewers mentioned).JBOD jumper is tough to get to.Power and SATA leads are almost also quick.Vibrant blue light is challenging to cover as it shines throughout the case.Bought two much less than six months ago and 1 of them just stopped functioning (won't energy up) and it's clearly an issue with the control board rather than the external energy provide. This undoubtedly is nowhere near the create quality of MacAlly's single drive enclosures.

Solid, nicely created, and sharp seeking enclosure. No logos or superfluous lights...in truth, the only light is the somewhat unobtrusive blue 1 behind the energy button, which doubles as the activity light. Slid open smoothly & with no challenges, and drives had been uncomplicated to set up. It booted up swiftly & with no any errors on the first try.The aluminum construction/finish would match completely with a Mac Pro tower...they certainly "borrowed" liberally from Apple's basic/classy designs, which is a good thing, especially compared to some of the obnoxious, blinky, logo-covered enclosures out there.Comes with all the drive mount screws & cables you need to set up two three.five" disks. The manual could've been clearer as far as the RAID config jumper is concerned. What it calls "JBOD/SPAN" is in fact just SPAN (both disks combined into a single concatenated drive). If you want accurate JBOD (each disk is treated as a separate drive), you have to set the jumper to "normal".

Running two Seagate TB drives, configured as seperate drives and each come up no dilemma under XP. So far every thing appears to be running cool, even the power brick soon after 52 hours on my server. None. I am satisfied with this enclosure. NO FEET? Would have ben nice to get some rubber feet to stick onto the box. I had some I bought in an electronics shop for a buck, it's good to have at least that bit of shock absorbtion when placing the drives down on a really hard surface.

Relatively rapid. Doesn't get extremely warm. Low-cost. Generally fail at just more than 1 year. I've had 3 of these units more than the past couple of years. Every has reliably failed at just more than 1 year of moderate to heavy use. The controller board appears to fail. Two of the 3 instances I was in a position to recover the data by placing the drives in to a new enclosure (which then failed a year later). One failure resulted in comprehensive loss of 2TB of information.I'm getting my 4th now just to try to recover information as soon as once more, but then moving it all to a distinct enclosure or RAID.

Quite compact for two drives, incorporates cooling fan. Fantastic transfer prices at about 35-40MB. Effortless installation all round. Sleek, unobtrusive. Operates automatically with Windows XP Fan cycles continually. Can get a bit annoying. Included USB cable is also short. Had an added laying about for my use. Jumper is in a very terrible position. Had to use tweezers to move to JBOD mode. Hold in mind that windows XP 32bit and beneath can not use drives more than 2TB. I have 2 1.5TB drives setup as JBOD so they show as separate drives. Normal mode will not function and reports 𞼞GB drive in windows xp. NOT a fault of the enclosure as far as I can inform but I don't have a vista or xp64 method to test with

Simple to use, appears nice. Just place the HDDs in the enclosure, plugged in USB and Energy, and that was it. I use this as a backup storage array on-the-low cost for a tiny small business. Functions effectively except for: (see Cons) The energy button....Momentary energy buttons are a drag. When power gets killed, this drive turns off and doesn't come back on. Yes, it is plugged into the battery side of a UPS, but even the quick delay of switching from A/C to Battery is enough to shut it down. Type of a drag having to make contact with on-internet site people just to turn on array. For residence and casual users who have continuous access to the device, or only turn it on when they need it..It's perfect. More affordable than other options and in my opinion, appropriate on point for good quality.

smaller enclosure that does the job perfectly. Installed 2 1TB spinpoints, switched the jumper to standard mode and immediately 2 1TB drives appeared in windows, partitioned/formatted and I was up and operating in ten minutes flat. Transfers appear speedy enough for USB2. fan cycles on and off ALOT. Non grounded power brick. whats some noise when you have 2TB of transportable storage in the palm of your hand

Well, I'm a sucker for a nice external enclosure design and style and I have to say this is one of the greatest I have seen in a long whilst. Simple, clean, neat. Excellent cooling capacity. Fan and drives are Extremely quiet. Cooling fan auto turns on and off by temp sensor controller so it is not running all the time. Even with two drives (WD 640GB on the bottom and a Seagate 320GB on the prime) the case remains cool to the touch immediately after hours of heavy drive use. Energy button on the front is a massive asset given that I have mine in a rack-mount. Smaller foot print, significantly smaller sized than the photographs lead on. Shorter than a 5.25 DVD case and is seriously no wider that the drives themselves. Much smaller sized than a lot of of my earlier single drives instances. Will undoubtedly be buying yet another at 1st opportunity. Only actual complaint is the directions recommend pulling the case out the back. DON'T. It is much better to push it to the front as to not bend the front plate which is Really straightforward to do and is a bit pliable. Due to the fact the case is a straight tube this is not a dilemma in any way. Other minor points: Blue LED could be also vibrant for some and is situated beneath a manage panel button so it's not simply 'dimmable' by tape or other methods with out disruption the button function. Fan occasionally performs as well well. A handful of times case has gotten warm sufficient inside to kick on for five-ten seconds, then shuts off. Then 20 seconds later begins up again. ;) This could be annoying to some, but it is not a deal breaker by any means as it is still quite quiet. HD and power cables inside are a bit stiff. Have to give them excellent bend to ease cable tension and protect against a feasible bent or broken finish but this could be simply because it is brand new. An optional Low/High/Auto fan switch and High/Low/Off switch for the drive light would be good touches and quite effortless to incorporate I assume; provided the superb and sophisticated design and style. There is a lot more than adequate room for them with the readily available space. Really like the little size, I was not expecting that. The two amp power brick does get warm on one particular side, but mine is not as hot as the other reviewer's right here was. He could want to send for a replacement just in case, because it does power both drives. A two bay SATA case with Typical & JBOD selections for much less than several charge for only one bay that requires up the identical space. Just amazing. Got mine in less than two days. As always, NewEgg rocks.

Aesthetically, it's 1 of the finest on the marketplace. It's straightforward, plain, and its set-up procedure was a snap; it took me significantly less than 15 minutes from the time I opened the box to the look of the drive icons on my pc's desktop. Good construction, also, with out all the glossy plastic identified in several competitors' offerings. While the unit is relatively quiet, the cycling on and off of the enclosure's internal fan is far also frequent--at least with the two Seagate Barracuda 500GB SATA drives I'm working with. Maybe a few strategically-place vents on the top rated of the enclosure would permit more heat to escape which would retain the fan cycling to a minimum. A very great external enclosure that ended up getting precisely what I was hunting for. And for the value, I could not be much more happy with the purchase.

Light weight, drives keep cool, effortless setup. I specifically purchased this enclosure to place my 2 1.5TB Seagate drives in. I wanted them combined to use the 3TB total capacity. When I place the drives with each other with the enclosure, it showed on my computer as a 3TB drive. I started to copy data to the drive. Right after a couple days, I had reached 1.8TBs of information. I then began one more copy of a lot more data to the drive prior to function. When I returned house, it showed that the data was nevertheless transferring, but absolutely nothing was moving. It held 1.99TBs of information with out a issue, but would not take anymore immediately after that. I received a response from the Macally telling me it did not have a limitation on drive size. They gave me a couple options to try, but they have not worked. I am giving them 1 a lot more probability to solve the concern, if they don't I'm returning the items.

- smaller than expected- has a fan- holds two challenging drives- no plastic- feels fairly solid - It is shinier and the edges appear rougher and cheaply completed compared to my Mac. I normally wouldn't complain about this since it is not made by Apple...but provided the name of the organization "Macally" it doesn't seem too far off to assume it would perfectly or at least a lot more closely match in colour and create excellent. - I wish it had tiny rubber feat or something on the bottom I like this case a lot and would possibly consider one more. So far the ideal situation I personal to date.

Was never ever a fan of external drives and due to not discovering a decent sata pci card I ended up acquiring this case. I was attracted to the price tag, the high quality and the reality that it can residence two sata 150 or sata II hd's and seems to have a pretty excellent cooling method. It does not say on newegg, the macally website or the box but this will assistance Sata II hd's so both varieties are supported. I am not sure how effective the fan can be, with two drives the box is jammed fairly full but with the front obtaining holes for the hot air to escape the case stays quite awesome. Fan does not come on really typically, but I only use this for back (I do not use the device for raid just for two seperate storage drives) so it does not keep on incredibly long or turned on all the time. As 1 user stated the fan would be greater with a control switch, though it can be unplugged all together if it bothers you due to the fact the situation has fairly great breathing room, just depends on your use. Oh, and in situation you are questioning this thing is tiny!!!! Fits two drives of typical size with not much room to spare. It is 4.5" wide, just shy of 9" lengthy and two.five" tall.

Almost everything you need to have right in the box. Compact for a device that homes two drives. Comes with cooling fan at a DECENT price. Jumper switch tad challenging to access. Went in "normal" mode to have 2 separate drives. The egg didn't offer you cost-free ship on this enclosure. I would make the buy once again. Newegg comes via with a superior expertise.

refer to my "other Comments" manual wants work. doesn't inform you how to setup JBOD/SPAN. 3 months down the road and nonetheless running powerful. just purchased a second HDD to run JBOD. those of you wondering how to setup JBOD on this enclosure, right here is how. for brand new HDDs you initialize each and every drive in Disk Management (under Administrative Tools). then right click on the drive block inside disk management and "create a new partition", which ought to show the total quantity of disk space like the second disk. For already partitioned drives, you have to delete the partitions and recreate them. when you generate the partition once more, you'll see the full disk space combined, like the second disk.

Read the other reviews.. I just saw 1, and from that a single the person mentioned my precise feelings I had my drive a year and a month. But toward the end of the year, the drive was not operating correct, well what I believed was the drive. It was in fact the enclosure. I took the drive out, and it worked fine in an additional enclosure. The Macally enclosure failed. I contacted them a month later, immediately after the holidays, and there was nothing they would do for me. I could not get any individual to even call me back. Immediately after several attempts I finally got the RMA department. I sent an e-mail to her, but since it was over a year, they would not cover this. Seems like everyone else''s enclosures are failing about the identical time. I was even going to acquire one more one if they took care of the warranty. Remain away. One more guy nailed my thoughts correct on the head.

Fits 2 drives, aluminum situation, power button, cooling fan, decent transfer speeds (I assume). I am presently transferring files as I write this and speeds seem to be a bit on the slow side. 700mb avi files averaging about 30 mb/s exactly where lots of mp3s are hovering about 12 mb/s. I am making use of an older 160gb Seagate SATA drive as of now, which may well be part of the problem. Tight fitting two drives in this issue - solder points seem to be somewhat weak so I wouldn't be swapping drives in/out of this too much. Situation is shinier than I expected, not actually a con even though. Some people have been complaining about the tiny little fan (looks about a 25mm or so) cycling on and off and becoming really loud. I have yet for mine to turn on so I can't comment on that yet and have been transferring files for about 30 minutes now. General quite happy so far.

If you scroll the review for the product all the way back to the extremely 1st one particular due to the fact the item launch about a year and half ago, it was written by me. at that time i was extremely pleased with the product. WARNING!!! apparently i am not the only 1. Immediately after this item's launch more than a year ago, apparently users like myself and others are beginning to have their unit(s) failing left and suitable. Initially i believed it was my HDD, I even sent the HDD back and replaced with a new drive. it turned out the problem wasn't the drive, but the enclosure!! it now can no longer boot up any of my drives.. i've owned this product for about year and half, naturally currently past the original 1 year warranty. but THIS goes to show the lack of good quality for goods like this. Now they even altered their warranty from one year to 30 days. clearly someone internally knows the difficulty and is trying to defend the bottom line. Let this be an example for a product that can appear to be excellent initially, but is fundamentally flawed. Their site is a joke, even if you try to do an RMA inside 30 days, you can't due to the fact it's nowhere to be located. I am incredibly disappointed, as this was suppose to be a high dollar investment for my external setup, it turned out to be nothing but a pretty seeking paper weight. Please Keep FAR away from this item for the lack of top quality.

Fantastic looking enclosure. Fan runs quietly, enclosure keeps the drive cool and secure. Looks good on the desk. LED is blue with no activity, red when the drive is reading/writing. When installing, 1 of the plastic retainers for the SATA connectors inside pulled out when switching input. I'm only using 1 drive at the moment, so it isn't a deal breaker. I have yet to try and replace the retainer, but it doesn't appear like it would be really straightforward to line up all the copper connectors. Looks wonderful, aside from the retainer issue it has met my expectations.
