I needed this enclosure for extra space. Arrived in a couple of days in perfect condition and is very simple to install the hard drive. My computer recognized it right away! and I was able to use it in minutes. Another great feature is that the cable for the enclosure has USB 2.0 and USB1.1, so even people with older model computers can use this enclosure. A great product for a great Price!!!! |

Easy to set up and easy to use. The quick release sides are a great feature, and make installing or removing a hard drive a snap. I was a bit concerned about heat dissipation as there are no vent holes anywhere, but the aluminum case seems to shed the heat very well. And as always, lightning fast shipping. It was literally on my doorstep the day the transaction cleared the bank. |

I purchased the Vantec NetStar SX primarily to clone my notebook hard drive (Win XP Pro) on to a new, larger, drive and it worked perfectly. Using the convenient side latches, the case was easy to disassemble but the connection card had to be lifted partly out of the frame in order to connect the hard drive. The illustration in the Users' Manual showing insertion of a hard drive is incorrect. The one cable with two USB connections assured there was sufficient power even to clone a 7200 RPM hard drive. Having a switch to turn the unit on and off is a great way to connect and disconnect the unit. All in all, a good value. |

This Vantec enclosure has a number of nice features, including an on/off switch, a connected (green) and active (red) LED, and an innovative power/data cable. Although a review on another website found the supplied cable confusing, it avoids the need for a separate power supply (or USB to power cable) for drives that require more power than a single USB port will deliver. The Y-cable has a mini-USB at one end that plugs into the enclosure, a regular USB that plugs into the computer, and a second USB that plugs into a another computer port for power. The latter USB connector has a passthru feature, allowing another USB device to be connected (so long it draws minimal power). The enclosure also has a separate DC power input in case the Y-cable is unavailable. Being able to open the enclosure using the two catches on the sides is nice to double-check what drive is inside without needing to find a screwdriver. The catches appear to be a bit flimsy. |

i have had several external HD enclosures. 3.5 inch and 2.5 inch. this has by far been the best enclosure i have ever used. the case is solid and well built. the plug holds the cable firmly (unlike some others i have used)and the on off swithc is a great feature for avoiding a surge on the usb port. i'm planning on buying another one identical to it in the near future. |
This enclosure is lite and easy to use. No screws to deal with. Just a push of the tabs and the unit is open and you pop in the drive and go to work. Great value. Great Product.
