I bought this drive for a WD 2TB EARS Green drive. Write and study speeds are really rapid, practically maxing out the drive's possible. Wonderful develop top quality, stylish design and style, a decent length & higher quality cable. The power brick was a bit larger than I anticipated, but not terribly substantial. The wattage rating on it most likely is to accommodate a range of really hard drives even although the a single I put in it consumes a meager 7-8W max. Enclosure gets incredibly warm for hosting a green drive. I'd imagine it would be even warmer for a WD Black or Hitachi drive.The enclosure also did NOT operate right out of the box.Immediately after some digging, I found out the default firmware for the JMS539 chipset in the enclosure was not liking the updated NEC USB3. drivers. When updated from the 1.00.16 to the 3.00.03 firmware, all was fixed and it worked fine. This was a 10 second, three step procedure and you can get the flashing utility from the Vantec site. Just make confident you leave your HDD in the enclosure, plug it into a USB2. port, and it will flash the chipset very easily.With the outdated firmware when plugged into a USB3. port the drive would spin up, then spin down, repeatedly in a loop, simulating hardware failure. Plugged into a USB2. port, the drive would act regular. Immediately after updating the firmware it worked great on both port types. Don't let the firmware stray you from this item. It's a good tiny device and updating it is painless as long as you know you will need to do it. |

It works fantastic. 2 TB limit and runs hot. I am operating a 1TB WD Black in it and it runs truly hot. I bought a Thermaltake 8cm usb desk fan to blow air over the enclosure and it runs cool now. I would not run this enclosure devoid of it. |

Did everything it mentioned it would and performs excellent. It has a blue activity light, and it's a bit on the bright side, so if this is going to be in a bedroom or one thing like that, you may want to cover it up. I don't know that I'd really get in touch with that a con although. I study the reviews for most of the enclosures that I could find. This a single got wonderful evaluations, and rightly so, since it does what it ought to and does it properly. The only other issue I wish I had thought of was the strategy of enclosure. The drive screws in, and that's no dilemma, I'd just like it to have more of a "fast enclosure" type of technique, because I will likely use this with a lot of drives. But it's not a enormous problem. If you're going to get a drive and have it much more or less permanent in this enclosure, then this is what you want. The screws had been integrated, and they lined up perfectly... no prob. |

Cons: USB 3 was very buggy out of the box, I had to download a firmware upgrade from Vantec but after doing so, it's working perfectly

Great strong feel and construction. Uncomplicated to set up HD. Functions well with WD 2TB Green 64mb cache drive and other smaller sized drives as well. Great performance for less cash than other USB3 enclosures. Can stack case upon situation if desired as it's a flat surface, not curved and no protruding mounting hardware. Working properly with diablotek USB3 card and with USB two ports. Connects with my WD Reside Plus box without having problems. None genuinely. Bright blue LED, can be utilised as a night light. I wonder why the other Vantec NexStar 3 is so substantially far more funds? Not sure what firmware it's running but I had no concerns at all. I have 2 of these situations for over two months. Plays all my mkv files with no any troubles. |

effortless to place with each other,nice situation. require to up-date firmware. also poor that the wallwort takes up 2 plugs....or perhaps they will need to re-orientate it so it would'nt take up the space. |

I've had a lot of DIY enclosures and this is definately up there. Paired with a 2tb western digital, i get anyplace from at least 80MB/Sec to 260MB/sec. This factor SMOKES. Nothing to report. |

Functions fine as usb 2. device. Good sturdy aluminum construction. LED is little and does not light up the room. Fails as when plugged into USB 3. port -- will disconnect itself. Yes, I've updated the firmware via Vantec's site, updated the drivers for my Asus U3S6 board. When it worked, I did not come across that the USB three. speed is that considerably more quickly than USB two. in actual use. Nonetheless, HDTune did measure the average speed of 100MB/sec working with 7200 rpm drives (WD caviar black, Seagate 7200.12), or about 3x the speed of USB two.. |

Cons: None that I can see. Just one small thing. One of the bases, I have 2 of these, did not stay put, I used silicone to glue it. Off course I can remove the base later if I need too.

Vantec products impress me. They are very good. I now have 4 Vantec external enclosures; 2 x USB 2.0 and 2 x USB 3.0. EXCELLENT. |

I got this enclosure paired with a Vantec USB 3.0 host card and a WD Cavier Blue 1TB (WD10EALS) drive. Doing a benchmark in HD Tune basic, I got an avg transfer rate of 109.4MB/s (min. 65.2MB/s, max 136.9MB/s) access time of 12.6ms, burst rate 109.1MB/s and CPU usage 9.5%. I tried transferring a 4GB file onto the drive and it's roughly double the speed of USB 2.0.On the negative side, the power cable (like all Vantec enclosures I've purchased before) is fairly short. It doesn't reach my power bar, so I had to run an extension cable.Other than that, I'm fairly happy with this enclosure. |
I needed a Ext powered HD enclosure to handle some extra hard drives i had for storage, Works beautifully. The tray option slides right out, Pop the Drive in and slide it back into the casing and your done. Cooling is excellent. Comes with an extra long USB 3.0 cable in case you need it.
