Its looks are sleek, higher gloss, vibrant LED's. It's internal board seems steady for each USB two. and eSATA. It appears significantly smaller than my old WD external 3.five" 鴺 GB). It can be mounted belly or on lengthy side. It has an on/off switch, which I choose to switchless. I'm not certain of how massive a drive you can throw in it, but I know it worked flawlessly with a 750 GB WD in USB 2. mode and 500 GB Seagate in eSATA mode. I applied it to recover information from my flawed gaming rig I constructed prior to I rebuilt it. It now serves its final goal as a DVR expander for my PACE 778x, mediacom cable box, with the 500 GB Seagate drive. Format worked great from DVR through eSATA. Haven't had any issues with it. The year I bought it the specs indicated that it could not be capable to use something more than 750 GB drive in USB mode, verify the specs. I like helpful on/off switch, the appears, and the thought behind the product. It functions properly for all the purposes I have for it.

Great functions, fantastic appears, when it performs its good Current energy supplies may not function out of the box I have purchased 3 pieces of this item and attempted to use them with WD640AAKS 640GB hard drives. The initial 1 that I bough in January 2009, worked devoid of a hitch. I use it to shop backups of my technique and of media files that I have. I use it only for brief periods at a time. The next 2 pieces that I bought in August 2009 did not perform at all, at least not with this really hard disk. I traced down the issue to the power provide (both units that I purchased in August worked with the energy supply purchased in January). The challenge is that at commence up when the existing on the 5V input spikes the 12V output of the provide grows to 14V which triggers the HDD self protection. Simply because I am an electronics engineer, I managed to come across an effortless repair for the problem, but I am not allowed to disclose it right here, as it requires adding an additional element to the energy provide to limit the voltage spike.

Super looking glossy black. Paired with a 500GB Western Digital drive, Operates good. This is my second external enclosure from Vantec. The very first is an IDE model. I bought it to mirror the initial drive for my photo storage. The stand could fit a small tighter, sort of sloppy. Quite effortless to assemble with HD.

eSATA, comes with adapter Be carefull when plugging in energy adapter. Connector is keyed so it can be turned 90 degrees off. The flat side of connector really should go opposite of port label, which can be confusing.I plugged mine in incorrect to start, but fortunaely no harm done. These of you that had energy concerns with this enclosure, verify the orientation of your power connector, it is confusing and not the similar as a PS2 connector, the flat side does NOT go towards the prime!

-eSATA transfer prices are the exact same as SATA 3Gb/s (provided that the bus you use can manage 3Gb/s)-Was recognized by XPSP3 and Mac OSX devoid of a difficulty-Runs warm(which is a sign that the passive heat transfer mechanism is operating)-The black mirror finish is pleasing and reminds me of Dearth Vader's helmet-The tolerances are incredibly tight; no wobble and loading the drive caddy into the case reminds me of loading a fresh magazine into a handgun.-Has a proprietary AC Adapter so you won't plug in the wrong adapter and accidentally fry it.-Each and every wire it came with is thick-Instruction manual is supplied each in .pdf on a miniCD (which contains controller drivers) and in printed type. -Has rubber feet to lay on it's side, a vertical stand, and there are dimples on the best so you can stack them-As always, Newegg shipped it to my stoop in 3 days flat. - Fingerprint magnet-They print up 1 manual for the entire series, and leave it up to the user to figure out which web page to read-Passive heat cooling is in no way as powerful as a heatsink and fan Use the vertical stand that is integrated; it promotes thermal transfer. Whenever you are removing a drive, make positive to take away the LED cable; you wouldn't want to break it. If you are going to use eSATA, make confident any SATA controllers have the drivers installed.

Smooth & quiet operation. I paired this up with WD6401AALS and it operates like a charm. I very first hooked up to my HP HDX18t and the HDD driver installed automatically. On the other hand, the drive was not getting recognized in the laptop folder or in Disk Management. It wasn't unitl I hooked up by means of usb that I was able to get the box to appear for Master boot choice. This ought to be addressed in the manual.Second, eSATA operates fine but I have to turn the unit OFF just before connecting. This is not a large deal unless I forget to do so. My laptop all of a sudden acts unstable till I unplug it. Just keep in mind these couple factors and you shouldn't have a challenge. Individuals have complained about the SATA II 3Gb/s transfer price. I referred to as Vantec and talked to an person about this. At the time of the call I was receiving roughly 56MB/s鸀Mb/s) which is still more quickly than typical usb two. speeds. The rep stated that eSATA is nevertheless in it's infancy. I did a tiny investigation, and he's certainly appropriate. Now I am regularly getting 90-110 MB/s transfer rate. I made a mirror of my drives making use of Vista Ultimate Back-up feature and 79GB took only an hour and twenty minutes!!! Try this with usb and see how lengthy it requires.

Simple to use, no driver needed for XP Pro. Formatted new seagate challenging drive outside external then installed it into the nexstar case, and boom every thing is great. no troubles with heat, or vibrations or noise.i use rubber feet side alternatively of vertical stand. just personal preference i suppose. driver disc must have incorporated much more up to date drive, even even though i got off the hook with out needing it, i suppose it would have been very good for the esata port which to date i cant get to perform. im sure it just me as other have posted it operating. still quickly even on usb though so what ever. the gloss finish is sweet but it appears to pick up finger prints (noticeably) like no bodies organization. not a large deal at all. front led is ferocious bright.I would acquire once again // advocate

Purchased to install a WD 750GB Black edition drive to connect to my cable DVR. eSATA connected to a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300HDC! Worked like a charm, once powered on and connected, the DVR prompted to format the drive and added the capacity to record applications!Match & Finish on the enclosure it leading notch! Really nice hunting and three.five" SATA drive installed in two minutes prime! Nitpicky but the AC/DC energy plug is rather big in size. The Vantec logo on the front side of the device is a really bright blue color. Doesn't bother me but if this device is facing into a bedroom... it acts like a nightlight!!!

Easy to setupGood looking casingPretty blue lightsWorks best Has no cooling fanFeels hot to the touch but maybe that indicates it's drawing the heat away from the drive I purchased a 1TB Western Digital Black drive and place in it and it's working great. I did have some concerns initially that I fought with for hours but it was due to my motherboard. Generally I ended up using the enclosed sata bracket to run from an internal sata port to make it external and have it plugged into that. My Asus P5B Deluxe has an esata port but it just didn't want to operate effectively. This is no fault of this solution though. I'd definitely acquire a lot more of these in the future and suggest them to other individuals.

Sleek-hunting, incredibly quickly with eSATA. I like the eSATA/USB combo so I can have excellent drive speeds at property but still be in a position to take it to a buddy's home to transfer files to a non-eSATA laptop or desktop. The eSATA is not hot-swappable on my machine, it just locks up if I plug it in although the computer system is on. Shiny external material attracts fingerprints, but that actually isn't a huge deal at all to me. Screwing in the backplate expected some real force on my part, which was specially hard when employing a precision screwdriver. I gave it -1 egg for it not getting hot-swappable on my machine, but otherwise I consider it's a fine product. After the backplate is completely screw'd in, the drive felt safe, and there was no rattling or anything. Also, other folks have pointed out that the internal interface is a small sketchy, but the a single I bought (not from newegg) had the sata and power connectors mounted straight to the drive cage, instead of the loose wires that other individuals have discussed on right here.

Connection* Supports up to 2TB* Power Switch* Special AC Adapter* Hot Swappable* Blue LED * No Fan* Surface very easily fingerprinted* Integrated grey USB/eSATA Cable (why not black to match?) Purchased immediately after my old Rosewill enclosure failed to detect my new Western Digital Caviar (Green) 1.5TB challenging drive due to its substantial size.Despite getting fan-less, I can happily report that this enclosure really keeps my drives COOLER than my Rosewill case (with the fan regularly on) ever did. This is my 1st Vantec acquire but based on the all round Newegg rating and the Vantec return/warranty policy.. I'm thinking about ordering a handful of more enclosures for other/future drives.I most surely suggest this enclosure.

This Drive Enclosure rocks. Vantec has re-created the PCB so there are no much more wires to connect to the drive. The connector is really hard wired to the PCB, kinda like a laptop harddrive connector. Solid construction and the aluminum keeps my drives cool and pleased! e-SATA functions like a charm! None! Could be a little less costly, but hey, it's nonetheless a wonderful solution for the price!

I have two of these enclosures, bought the older one particular a handful of years ago and it nonetheless works just fine. eSATA connectors (or cables) seem to be somewhat flaky - after in a while, when I move a laptop or enclosures or even just touch the cables, the drive disappears, and I need to disconnect and then re-connect each ends of eSATA cable to get drive back online. No ventilation or ventilation holes - drives can run hot, not great for some hotter drives. Appears to be fine for my Seagate Barracudas .five and 1 TB though - the temperature stays below 45C.No noise dampening whatsoever - I wasn't able to hear 1 of the drives when it was inside of Ahanix D.Vine 4 case, but when took it out into Vantec enclosure, the sound of spinning drive is very notiseable in the quiet space.

Performs well with both USB and eSATA connection w/Win7. Screw-less but solid internal HD installation system. Needs just 2 screws for the outside. Energy brick is of the tiny kind. Seems trusted so far. Plastic back can quickly break if you over-tighten the screws. I haven't broken it but but I'm certain others have. The inside has a stupid LED connector that you often have to worry about when pulling out the drive. There's no way to permanently attach the base so you have to juggle two pieces anytime you want to take it anyplace - gets annoying.Uses the standard, cr@ppy round power plug style that is not also safe. Regrettably this sort is identified in most other manufacturers' styles as well. Possibly somebody really should make a case with extremely tiny/short fins all around to give a higher surface location for cooling. In the mean time, possibly I'll stick a bunch of RAM sinks all more than it or something.Anyway, it's not a terrible unit at all. I just think that's it's a bit overrated for what it is. It need to cost a bit much less, IMO. I'm nevertheless happier with my other a single - it's cheaper, has perforated, all-metal sides and an attached base!

Functions excellent with USB or eSATA for short term (Less than three hours. This unit has no vent. Following three hours of continuous transfer of data Ƒ.5TB) the tough drive more than heats and windows begins to report delayed write errors. A lot of of these do not have good ventilation and are not sutable for extended term transfer of information. Next I will try a dock.

Not a lot to add to what's been stated right here. Simple to put with each other and it worked fine out of the box. I'm seeing transfer speeds exceeding 133MB/sec more than eSATA. If your drive supports Native Command Queuing that function will not be obtainable working with this enclosure. This is not a major deal if you are employing the drive for backup or storing videos but if you are employing it for some thing where NCQ would offer a efficiency advantage then you will be out of luck. The plastic stand transmits far more vibration than the rubber feet. Standing it on a thing soft helps cut down on the hum.

Uncomplicated to use, easy to set up, operates correct away. Involves a PCI slot eSATA bracket in case you don't have 1. Gets a little warm to the touch (but I don't seriously assume it's sufficient to hurt something). PCI slot bracket only has a single eSATA port, as opposed to the ones that come with newer motherboards which have two.

- This is a slick seeking enclosure, solidly built.- Delivers the speed I was looking for with my external drives (I bought two)- Lengthy cables so placement was straightforward, all the cables you'll need to have for connecting the drive are incorporated, even the SATA to eSATA adapter panel.- Did I mention it appears cool? - Actually bright fron LED status indicator, not for bedroom use if your Computer is on all the time unless you want to cover it with black tape- Could use rubber or foam "feet" on the incorporated stand for vertical operation, if you have it on your desk It transfers the vibration and is seriously annoying, (at least it does with my 7200rpm Seagate drive) The cons I listed are genuinely just minor gripes, if you require an external enclosure, this is the one particular to get

Incredibly fast working with eSATA (as anticipated). When it functions, it functions excellent, nonetheless for me, this has not been the case for the most component. It's in fact unusable at the moment and so I'm returning it for refund. The USB interface seems to have no difficulties, but I bought it for eSATA so it's no good for me.This has to be a single of the easiest units to set up a drive into (be careful with the LED wire). It's physically well made (except for the stupid energy connectors most external enclosures come with). The difficulty is that most of the time it's not recognized when connected employing eSATA upon bootup (before Windows starts). When it is, it's fine till the drive goes to sleep, then it vanishes. Hot-plugging it while Windows is up at times brings it back but most of the times it doesn't. Also, unplugging the power brick from the outlet (not from the device) and re-powering will, on uncommon occasions, bring it back.It get's truly HOT!! Commonly I don't mind as this typically implies the case is really undertaking it's job of grabbing the heat from the drive and bringing it to the outside, even so it appears to get way hotter than the other fanless enclosures I have using the exact same drives. The stand doesn't essentially attach to the enclosure so the complete factor can shift forward and back too quickly - not steady enough, imo.Bottom line: I don't propose this model. For reference:I have it connected to an ASUS A8N-SLI Premium MB operating XP SP3 utilizing eSATA. Tried connecting to each NVidia and Silicon Image ports and tried utilizing a different cable to no avail. Also had the same difficulty under Win7 RC.Also attempted these 2 different drives with the same outcomes (both set to 1.five Gbs operation)GB Seagate ST3500630AS 񣚠.10ꌖGB Seagate ST3750640AS 񣚠.ten)Both of these drives operate without probelms via SATA using the substantially older and less expensive Metal Gear Box II.

Nice unit. USB being there is a plus. eSATA is quickest you can go. Incredibly decent unit for the income. Which 1 of the external case suppliers is going to be the 1 of very first brave souls to place the rocker on/off switch on the FRONT? Fumbling for the switch amongst the cables in the back plain stinks, in particular when the drive is next to other gear. Just about every single external drive you discover, the switch is on the back. Believe: Why do a lot of people (not all) use an external drive? So they can run it all the time, listen to the noise, and enjoy overheating their drive for no reason? Or perhaps, just maybe, a lot of users turn it on only when they do their backup or just when they need it, like possibly as soon as or 3-five occasions a week? Otherwise, you can put your second back up difficult drive in an internal bay, use it possibly 1% of its operating time, and the rest of the time it can pretend it's a gyroscope assisting to stabilize the rotation of the planet. This case is great, in all other respects. My apology for picking on this manufacturer for this, so please look at my poor rating goes across all the other brands that location the switch on the back of all or practically all their models as effectively. If this function doesn't bother you, then you have a winner, due to the fact otherwise this drive would would have gotten a higher rating.
