Good, sturdy aluminum case. Effortless to assemble. Power brick with my unit was a narrow one for energy strips. Blue LED on front is as well vibrant and annoying. Glossy case will show fingerprints badly. If you intend to use this with a Mac, I could not get this case to perform with a 400GB Seagate drive and a MacBook Pro. Drive would not mount working with either FAT32 or NTFS. Worked fine with XP. It would mount on the Mac utilizing a 250GB Hitachi drive, so it appears like an concern with this chipset. Purchased the FW/USB version of this case and it performs fine with each Mac and Pc on each interfaces.

Eye-catching design, strong building, idiot-proof operation! A longer USB cable, a front mount energy switch, and a bit much more clearance for the hard drive connection points would strengthen this item. But when a product does what you expect it to do and with hardly any heartache, I'm a content person! Thanks for saving my HDD! I purchased this to home my Pc's original HDD when I got around to rebuilding it with a bigger drive. Being the procrastinator I am, I ultimately was forced to rebuild when a virus infected my HDD and prevented the operating of any AV software. So I rebuilt and place the infected HDD in this enclosure. Given that it was no longer the boot drive, I was in a position to update my AV software program on the Computer drive and then scan and clean my old drive in the Vantec enclosure. Voila! All my files are back (after taking ownership of certain folders on the old drive that have been associated with my private user account). I'm seeking to rebuild my Mom's Pc and might require an additional enclosure. If I do, it's Vantec Nexstar again...only this time in red!

This enclosure is constructed solid... Really simple to set up the challenging drive, the process took 15 minutes or less. Given that this unit has no fan it is practically silent, only the occasional sounds coming from the hard drive. This unit makes it possible for the challenging drive to run cool even soon after extended read/write sessions. None! I would very suggest this enclosure to everyone that requirements an external challenging drive case.

The enclosure is certainly a lovely piece! Easy and sophisticated. Extremely effectively manufactured. I would undoubtedly buy an additional a single really should the will need arise. The only point I discovered a bit disconcerting with this enclosure was the closeness of the IDE connectors. It did make placing the drive in the tray somewhat of a pain, but once I got it in there it worked wonderful.

four screws, plug into USB laptop and you're up and running. none so far. This is a wonderful enclosure that appears great and saves money if you have an old drive with lots of information that needs to be backed up. I pulled it from an old machine that had a dead mobo, put the drive in this enclosure, pulled the files from the drive onto the laptop, formatted, and moved the intended files back to the laptop. Now it's a actually goo operating backup drive.

it looked good. hard drive fit well into the case. price wasn't terrible. this was DOA but that's not the reason i gave it a three. the point just had extremely poor craftsmanship. i mean components exactly where bending and flopping about as i inserted the challenging drive. and i know from the final enclosure i had, if it's flopping about as i'm attempting to put it with each other, then it possibly won't last also long overall which is no excellent for a difficult drive i use to back up my essential facts. newegg has significantly better enclosures than this one. i'd personally look to an additional on that they present.

Certainly gorgeous appearance and construct. Feels incredibly strong, appears like an pricey piece of gear. Included cables are a bit short. My power cable didn't look like the one in the picture, the brick is aspect of the plug so it covers 2 outlets. These are really minor complaints although. I purchased 2 far more to replace aging Belkin plastic enclosures.

Strong packaging. Effortless assembly. Quiet operating. Recognized immediately by XP. Rapidly data transfer, just like operating a second internal HD. So far, so wonderful... working with an IDE connection. Wonderful product (for my purposes) coupled with good Newegg service! Only one particular. The directions do not say that you will need to insert the two longer screws into the top and bottom holes on the back of the housing, once you've inserted the HD and caddy into that housing. No actual problem as there had been two screws left over, and there were two holes that necessary screws! However it may possibly be helpful to know this if you are not mechanically inclined. Some testimonials list heat create up and LED failure as difficulties. I've been operating it a few hours and so far no dilemma. But then I'm operating an ancient ten gig Maxtor HD that I salvaged from a Dell Dimension V350. I don't know about heat buildup on larger drives. I wanted far more secure backup storage than what's accessible on flash drives. Because I had the old Dell left over, I decided to try an external case. I was initially concerned about comments concerning Nexstar's tight fit and improperly aligned screw holes, which I encountered in a couple of item evaluations. I identified this to be a non-challenge!As with all solution assembly, you do have to be careful & you will need right tools (no energy screw drivers). If you've ever assembled a model or a toy & you can stick to written guidelines, assembly's a cinch. Do be cautious inserting the HD into the caddy, as the front plastic panel does bend a little. Just hold it exactly where the panel connects to the back of the caddy & you should have no issue.I study about someone not trusting the plastic feet for vertical operation. If you run it horizontally on a desk, you'd lose about 1ǘ the heat-transfer location. Maybe that's why some say their HD's run hotter? The feet look steady enough to me.

Effectively produced case, nice match and finish, colors are bright. Went collectively very easily. None, every thing worked fine! The blue light on the front is really genuinely bright, that may well be a pro or con based on how you really feel about that.

Exceptional External enclosure. Bring life back to the IDE drives you have laying around. I have installed up to 500GB on all colors of these (I consider blue says up to 400GB). I have four+ of these and use them for my clients also justa bit pricey... They must be Ten Dollars much less or Free of charge shipping.

I read the other testimonials so I was concerned about feasible heat concerns. I left the point running and backing stuff up all night lengthy. It was in an region of tiny to no air circulation. It was warm to the touch but not hot. All round, the internal building feels low cost and is very really cramped. This is not a thing that you're going to swap drives out of typically. The technique for connecting the LED for drive access/power to the drive is screwy. The finish on the case attracts fingerprints like you wouldn't think. The energy cord is really very short, and the incorporated USB cable is also relatively brief also. You get what you spend for. It is inexpensive, feels low-cost, but it operates just fine. I undoubtedly propose this solution as extended as you don't have an outlet that is very far away, and don't care about fingerprints (or are willing to clean the case whenever you touch it.)

Challenging drive enclosure was packaged seriously nicely. No missing components, like an additional brand I tried, and anything match cleanly with each other. I had no problems with installing the difficult drive. The enclosure is very clean and looks sharp. And, of course, it performs as advertised. Nicely worth the value. None.

works properly, good accessory package. new model has a less costly energy provide and couldn't they have selected a good color for the esata cable rather of grey? this seems to be a subsequent generation/cost lowered model. there are numerous alterations: the mirror enamel finish has been replaced with an anodized finish (which isn't bad mainly because fingerprints don't show as badly), redesigned disk tray that holds the disk by the bottom rather of the sides, and a expense-reduced power provide that has the prongs on the side of the cube rather than a cube with cables coming out either end.

Excellent hunting, nicely constructed, and it performs suitable off the bat. What else do you want? Technical support? T/S is outstanding by e mail. The box also comes with a carrying case for the drive and its cable. Oh, yeah. It comes WITH the USB cable with two plugs. Good purchase and, of course, Newegg rocks! 2 day delivery. None. I place an older IBM HDD from a laptop in it. The connector was too wide but the connector match fine. The too wide aspect was for jumpers, of course. The disk was locked and Tech Support solved that dilemma with a ref. to MS Information Base. One particular step was missing: You must go to the Owner tab and check the Replace Owner box to transfer ownership of the files.

Aluminum, sturdy design, functions with older drives. Not very good if you plan to swap the drive incredibly typically as the drive and internal wires are very snug. Drive noises appeared resonant when the drive is sitting vertical as opposed to horizontal where is is seriously quite quiet. I purchased this enclosure to use with an older Hitachi 500GB drive that I was previously working with in a desktop. Desktop is extended gone but the drive was sitting about. I had no intention of swapping drives in and out just wanted an added drive for backups, and so forth. Drive installed devoid of a difficulty. Functions wonderful plugged into computers or a Buffalo router as a NAS. I prefer to lay mine flat (horizontal) so as not to put undue strain on the drive needle.I have the blue 1. Drive has front indicator light which can be disabled by picking not to connect in internally. Has energy adapter which works internationally and USB connector. Excellent selection for older ATA drives. I advise it to bring life back to old drives you might have that aren't getting applied.

Operates. Nicely created. High efficiency switching power provide integrated. Incredibly tight match for hard drive in mounting bracket. (Mounting bracket is a fantastic match into case.)Single light dims on hard drive activity. With small files, this single color light is difficult to see. Also will interface CD and DVD drives, each study and create. Of course these 5" drives will not match in the case.
