None This a single uses JMicron JMS551 chip which appears some compatibility problems. With Intel USB 2. controller, I got intermittent disconnection problem (once for few hours). With NEC 3. controller, the drive isn't recognized for the most of the time. I tried the most recent 255..4.1.12 firmware from Vantec but it doesn't solve the issue. I'm going to return it to NewEgg.Instead, I just got Sharkoon Quickport Duo which makes use of LucidPort USB300 chip and performs flawlessly. It even has energy switch for every person port. Significantly far better design and style. I very recomment Sharkoon Quickport Duo!

USB 3. throughput speeds.I've only utilised regular difficult drives, but they look to get full throughput, even when transferring information from 1 drive in the dock to the other.Power provide has an LED on it, and is not a wall wart, so it's effortless to plug in. You can not transfer data from a drive plugged in to a single slot when inserting a drive in to the other socket. The transfer is interrupted for about 8 seconds on my Q6600 box through an Asus U3S6 card. Using a information transfer utility such as Terracopy that makes it possible for you to pause and retry file transfers will mitigate this situation somewhat. The all-plastic building of this unit indicates that it feels a bit flimsy. The match of the drives in the slots is a bit looser than I'd like, and leads me to feel that wonderful care have to be taken to keep the longevity of the SATA back-plane of the device. The all plastic building also leads to poor heat-dissipation from inserted drives (this is a consideration with all SATA docks I've utilised, but this 1 much more than other folks). I believe I'm going to have to find a clamp-on heat-sink for long file transfers or fragile drives I'm attempting data recovery on.It's white... This is just a poor design and style selection. Black would look reasonable, or even silver. Genuinely I was on the edge of providing this unit 4 stars. At this point in the life cycle of USB three. I consider there are only a single or two host bridge chip alternatives obtainable, so I bet that just about each other USB three. dock has the transfer-interruption-on-insertion issue. If you're making use of Windows to move files, you'll loose your transfer. The price for this device is not as well bad, and with 2x 1TB 7200RPM drives transferring to every other across the USB 3. interface the drive performance is clearly the limiting factor in transfer speed.

It is nice, and white. Easy to ship back. Disconnected repeatedly with connection to brand new Asus motherboard w/ USB three.. I would format a disc and it would say it was unformatted a minute later. The similar disc functions fine in my e-sata tough drive dock. Not ready for prime time.

When it functions, it's actually quick. The speed was ӯ.five occasions quicker than USB two..Good white color. Beginning to get tired of black. The unit frequently became "disconnected" from Windows 7 64 bit. The only way to get it back was to power cycle the switch. This made it difficult mainly because the drives I use are encrypted with TrueCrpyt and have to be remounted when this occurs. One particular of the plastic pieces on major to align the two.five drives broke immediately after about the 10th use. The plastic part is quite flimsy. I have utilized other Vantec goods devoid of issue. This is the first disappointment.

Good designQuite blue LEDCan hold up to two drivesUSB three. compatible Had troubles with it at first. I use USB three. and the dock continued to drop the drives for the duration of hefty information transfer.Discovered out it is a bug with the USB three. protocol and a firmware update really should resolve the challenge Make confident you update the firmware 1st if you strategy to use USB three. If you strategy to use USB two. then a firmware update must not be required.

The device seems to function fine. Got recognized by Gigabyte USB3P motherboard appropriate way. Functions with ssd, three.five and two.5 HD no dilemma at all. USB two. speed hovers around 30-35MB/s and USB3. 117-120 MB/s. Can also boot as nicely in bios. All round is solid and functions as it ought to be. If your gonna use this make positive not leave it on with any challenging drive connected for a extended time. Its get hot has an oven. making use of a 2TB F3 Samsung drive for an extended period its get really hot and the drive its recognized to be 1 of the coolest in the market. Perhaps Vantec really should implement some cooling attributes to this dock. My guess is to use it quickly and turn it off otherwise it can brief an HD life expectancy by a lot with the produced heat.

USB 3. is more rapidly than esata in my knowledge with docks BUT Look Under The dock does function intermittently exactly where it would disconnect. I am working with Windows 7 Ultimate x64. I've flashed to the newest firmware as yet another reviewer has suggested. Intermittently disconnects which means one or two of the drives would disconnect from the laptop or computer whilst transferring files. I've tried transferring from one drive to an additional within the dual bay and it averages 51 mb/sec if it finishes transferring. I'm in contact with Vantec help, but so far I've only been asked what form of drivers do you have (latest from each asus for my u3s6 pci card Marvell9123-9120_V1001042_XpVistaWin7 and NEC_USB3_V10190_XpVistaWin7I was then asked if I can safely eliminate the challenging drives when plugged into a usb two. port. I have weighed sending this back, but paying for shipping and ten% off to straight up get a refund as an alternative of a replacement would expense me about what it would a single bay usb three. dock. I wouldn't get this unless you wanted to wait to see if vantec support ever fixes the difficulties with an update mainly because I'm stuck correct now with moving files in smaller sized chunks so I can turn off the dock and turn it back on to reconnect to the laptop or computer. sigh.

It's been operating considerably superior with the new usb 3. cable vantec ultimately sent me (probably 10 emails and following attempting numerous things). More quickly than my esata dock. It was intermittently disconnecting through big transfers (larger than 100 gb). Yes, it may well be annoying to require a spare cable to test, but your alternative is rma for new unit or return with 10% loss and shipping expense. It doesn't seem to be dropping as considerably when I transfer from an internal drive, in in between two 1 tb drives inside the dock, and from esata dock to this dock. Vantec support was pretty fantastic at responding swiftly (less than a days wait) and some what handy as effectively since the cable appears to repair my matters. I did the firmware update and certainly suggest it. I'm using Win7 ultimate x64 and this is an update to my earlier assessment. I would recommend it considering that it is about the price tag of what the thermaltake usb 3. dock, but this is dual bay so pretty helpful if you have numerous drives you want to see as JBOD.

Cons: Detaches without warning from my Mac Book Pro if bumped ever so slightly.

Pros: Works fine with good speed on my PC
Comment:
This drive dock regularly detaches from my mac book pro. My PC has no issues with it, and my Mac Book has no issues with other devices, but the cable just doesn't fit quite snugly enough in the USB port and its been a big problem. I will be returning this dock if I am able.

Great hunting - Uses only one particular USB three. cable. 1. Would not transfer at USB 3. speeds on my up-to-date Lenovo W510, even right after installing the firmware update to the dock.two. Firmware update was terrible to get installed on the dock below WIN7 Pro.3. White isn't a superior color for a personal computer peripheral. I am returning this item.

For my application - NONE!!Wish it worked. I like the color, the size, and the button on the front is fashionable (Blue LED) and easy to use. Does not assistance three. speeds for use with Asus motherboard. Yes, I updated the firmware. Vantec's internet site offers incredibly poor guidance in even the simplest tasks such as updating firmware.1st, its a challenge to even ascertain which unit you are wanting to update. The model number isn't listed Anyplace on the drive dock. Every other piece of facts does even though; Serial number, material specification, power provide needs (both voltage an amps), dimensions, etc. You know, all the pertinent information you need EXCEPT for the actual model you have in your hand. I in fact had to discover the box to be verify my model!Second, the directions are not clear on the site for updating firmware. Granted, I know I need to turn it on to update the firmware, but they need to mention that you want a drive installed to update the firmware for the dock itself. Finally, I am just very disappointed in the quantity of time expected to troubleshoot this. I couldn't figure out exactly where the challenge was until I read other NewEgg reviews showing incompatibility with Asus mobos. Thanks guys!

Its functions properly greater than my old eSata dual docking station. I can carry out a FULL C drive backup to the USB3 and it take a little much less than 1 hour, with the eSata it took virtually two hours (Same quantity of information). Im only employing WD 2TB Green drives for these mainly because they are cooloer but I just care about the storage. But the drives appear rather rapid when turning on the unit and my backup software program workes excellent with it. I can transfer files from my WD USB3 MY BOOK and THIS Incredibly Quickly. Only con is that the drives do get hot when left on for a lengthy time.. But I turn it off when accomplished! Not major deal at all! White is the only white on my desk now :) all other items are black.... Just believed id throw that in.

It comes with all the cables you'll need to have to hook it up. The thing is quick...when it works. Really unreliable. It might show the tough drive connected but Windows thinks the drive is not formatted, or the drive in no way shows up at all. Works 1 out of 10 times.

Pros: Ease of installation

Overall, definitely not satisfied with the performance of this drive. This docking station worked immediately without any problems. I have it plugged into the "SuperSpeed" USB 3 port on my HP Envy 17. BUT - and this is a big "but" - the speed of data transfer is not all that impressive. Going straight from one of the laptops internal HDD's to the dock I am getting speeds of around 30Mb/second. Plugged into the dock I have a 500Gb Seagate Barracuda 7200 drive (which according to norton utilities is a perfectly healthy drive). The data copy rate ranged from about 25Mb/s to about 40Mb/s which was the highest i have ever seen it go. I copied 10.8 Gb of data and that took 6minutes 11 seconds. I get the same speeds when copying much smaller chunks of data too. When I am copying data to a regular USB 2.0 device on one of the other ports, I get similar speeds (usually around 25Mb/s).So, I like this dock because it is simple, easy to install and dual-drive - but i do not like the performance.I had to give it 3 stars because the ncix website does not recognise my Order ID

it works and i can access both drives at the same time whereas with the thermaltake blacx duet, i could only access one drive over esata (i didn't realize that i needed a port multiplier). quite a bit faster than usb 2.0

I am extremely pleased with this hard drive dock. I get read/write speeds as expected. My hard drives stayed quiet and did not heat up as experienced by one reviewer, even during prolonged write sessions.Vantec (Nexstar?) seem to make very high quality products and I would certainly buy from them again.

Cons: performs worse than usb 2.0

Pros: There is nothing about this dock that is worth the plastic it melts your drives with.
Comment:
Max speed I would get was 90 MB's and if there was a large amount of data that needed to be transferred it would go even slower at 40 to 30 MB's. Drives also ran so hot they would burn your hand if you touch it. I have used many, many, many... enclosures in my time and never have I had one heat up a drive that it would burn me. I am sending this product back!
