I've tried three of these projectors thanks to TD's excellent exchange policies. All had horizontal shifting scanlines visible from 16' back on my 155'' screen. Good: - Motorized controls and lens shift, so easy setup - Strong colors - Little input lag - Good display of uniformly bright or dark scenes - Very sharp across the screen, excellent lens Bad: - Poor absolute blacks; a dull slate gray, even when the screen is full black - Poor ANSI contrast; blacks wash out even more when bright and dark are on the screen - Brightness inadequate for my screen - Somewhat loud at full lamp - Very heavy, ceiling mounting a bit awkward I replaced it with an HC3800. The HC3800 is much less flexible, but has vastly better image quality. My sample doesn't have shutdown problems. Lens quality isn't quite up to the Pro8100, but still fairly sharp. Contrast, brightness, and black levels are significantly better than the Pro8100.

Beware of these units! Many of them will have either dead pixels, HORIZONTAL BANDING, or VERTICAL BANDING. Go to the A V S forums to read the HUGE thread on this projector. When you get a unit with no defects, its the best deal going! Problem is getting a unit that works correctly. The 2 biggest issues are vertical and horizontal banding, and it seems to be due to grounding issues with the unit! So buyer beware. If you get a unit, make sure you log on a few hundred hours at least within the 30 day return policy to make sure its working correctly(the problems can creep up over the first few hundred hours), and make surre you have a spare $1250 on hand if it is defective so you can swap out without a 1-2 week downtime. I would give this unit high marks for picture quality if not for the nagging issues, if you get a perfect working unit, then you can consider the performance and value ratings for the money an easy 5 along with the features.

A steal at $1250, plus I got almost 10% back from Bing cashback. It's big, but powerful. Picture looks nice and it's very quiet - especially in Eco Mode.

Great Projector. It is a large projector but it delivers the performance. One initial problem is the auto iris, it really sucks until you upgrade the firmware on the projector. Once you update the projector the auto iris works great. Definitely worth the price.

This projector is good but the price have change since my purchase (paid 1399$). This projector is still a deal. The only flaw he have it is vertical banding problem. To correct this you have to unplug the projector each day after closing it. Other than this the projector is very nice. You can check a picture at blacketik dot com slash pj 120'' screen with MotorStorm Pacific Rift on ps3 (720p, 1080p is better!).

Nothing in this price range compares to this projector. Remote controlled everything focus, wide angle etc. (competitors only offer manual adjustments). Lots of inputs, HDMI support is great 1080i,1080p,1080p60,1080p24. Very quiet you cannot hear the fan at all. I find the picture to be bright and crisp. I am using the 120 inch screen that I purchsed from TD.

At its current $1400 price, this is a great buy. Bright, excellent image and color, and acceptable blacks. Also, very quiet, with negligible light leaks. Image quality (except maybe blacks) rivals digital projection at the local theaters, and to my taste is better than film. A couple minor caveats: Some people, including myself, have seen light green stripes after powering up from standby. I fixed this by putting my AVR (amp)and PS3, etc on a power strip, and turning them off when I'm not using them. This eliminates the green stripe problem. Also, you will want to upgrade the firmware to 2.5 if it isn't already. Pretty straightforward. Once these minor issues were dealt with, I am very happy with this projector!

The picture is great! It is well built and has great options. It could be a bit brighter. The auto iris is a bit annoying. I had to turn it off.Even with it off you can see the differences in the deep blacks, thats good. When doing the picture tilt and keystone I found you can only do one not both. I dont know why but I would set the tilt and when I tried to set the keystone the tilt would reset to default. I had to add spacers in the mount to get it aligned. Not a big deal but again, annoying. Besides that its very quiet and nice to look at, looks like a custom made package. Nice big lense gives you nice even detail. Would suggest it to the next guy. Plug and play, the skin tones were great right out of the box, no adjustments needed on a flat 1.0 screen. Great deal for a native 1080p!!

I got it July 1st 2009 and at the time the MSRP was over 5k and site had it on for 1700. Was in heaven for 2 weeks, but then green blobs appeared (later identified as probable dust on green lcd panel) at Site request went through Manufacturer Customer support. who were great, but sent a refurb that no work either. they werent able to send a brand new unit as none in North America, but i'm willing to wait for good unit, over a month later, still no new units so call again and after a special order they send a NEW unit (made 2008). Out of Box big rainbow sphere in middle of screen. Now they willing to repair only because it so long after purchase (Even though no working unit 4 mths now). Site now sells unit for 300 cheaper and cant get refund for the length-after-purchase reason and now serial numbers different, to buy it again. (disappointing) But i would get refund to buy it at cheaper price cuz its awesome when it works!!

I bought this projector last month after spending the last 6 months researching HD projectors. I was all ready to buy another projector because I need a short throw 2x zoom. Then, out of nowhere I saw this projector here on TD, it reviewed well and was almost $1000 less then the other unit. I have a 100 electric screen I built into my ceiling at a distance of about 10.2 feet away. I was blown away right out of the box. Blu ray looks phenominal (i'm using a cheaper blu ray player). Gaming is unbelievable. Even regular DVDs and downloaded AVIs upconverted through my Blu-ray player look incredible. This projector is bright, the resolution is unbeatable and at this price and it performs way beyond expectations. Sure it's a bit bigger than most projectors but if you are like me and you want your setup in your man-cave or living room to leave an impression - this is the projector for you. Don't hesitate and deny yourself any longer - buy it!

Bought back in 3-09 for $1,799 so at this price now, it's an awesome deal. The firmware upgrade fixed the auto iris problem. There are enough adjustments that even a professional would enjoy setting it up. The menu itself does take some time getting used to. PJ is very quiet and the picture is film-like. Has sufficient brightness that you don't have to be in a totally dark room to enjoy a quality picture. If you're in the market for a quality home theater PJ, don't pass this deal up.

This projector is VERY bright. I can have lights on in the room and the image still POPS! The auto-iris is awkward. When a scene changes the iris will adjust then back off. So a dark scene will go bright then dim down. This happens in a second and is noticeable. I think we'll be having ours turned off. Pros: VERY VERY quite Bright image Clean image Cons: The auto-iris (which can be turned off)

The professional reviews are pretty good for this projector but keep in mind it was being compared to 4k dollar projectors as this used to cost much more. At this price there is no other product that compares! Excellent image even in rooms with light. The firmware update needs to be done on a XP operating system...I had to borrow someone's laptop. This and some quirky menu designs are the only things I wish were better. If you're looking for a 1080p projector, skip the new sub 1k machines and grab this one while it lasts! The 3 year warrantee is awesome too...

This is my 5th front projector. (The first was in 1983!) It is easily the brightest and best in contrast of the others, two costing nearly $5,000. It actually looked better out of the box on a HC grey screen, but reviews on-line do provide some revised settings - the accessibility to which are amazing on this set. I'm thinking of buying another for a backup.

I put 5 stars for everything, but I would qualify that response by saying that I have never owned another projector. HOWEVER, I was simply floored the first time I played a Blue Ray disk on this thing. After some minimal color correction, the skin tones and other colors were just breathtaking. Sharp, clear and a joy to watch. the size of the projector is a bit on the large side, well lets face it, its a mamoth. Almost as large as a full tower computer system, yet deceptively light at only 19 pounds. I had no problems from the moment I got it out of the box and it included a soft cloth for cleaning, a dust cover and a black carrying bag to help with portability. All controls are digital, lens shift, zoom and focus all by the included remote or on the side of the unit. I can see why it originally cost over $4k to buy one and am very pleased that after much comparison shopping and review reviewing, I picked the right one. There may be better out there but at that price point? I think not.
