First time owner of an SSD, so was a bit wary. Worry that it may slow down over time and that it is not possible to defragment. Impressed so far with speed....lightning fast loading software. Win 7 64-bit loads in 45 seconds from cold. Brilliant. I purchased this instead of competing products because I trust Intel and read too many reviews of problems with other drives. Fingers crossed!

Cons: The only weakness I can think of for this unit is the high $/GB ratio which is common for an SSD and makes sense when you take into account how many improvements these SSDs have over spinning HDDs. A 2nd weakness is the limited storage you get due to the high $/GB ratio; 1TB of this will cost you $3K.

Pros: Compared to spinning hard disk drives(HDD) this SSD: absolutely no moving parts means no mechanical wear & tear possible, no noise, uses less power, makes less heat, IS uneffected by physical shock during operation, has 1/10th to 1/100th the latency, up to 5X more performance, each flash cell can be erased 10,000 times, intel estimates at 20GB of writes/day it should take 10yrs to wear out and 5yrs at 100GB of writes/day, SSD gives a warning about 1yr before it is worn out, when the SSD is worn out the data is only non-eraseable with absolutely no data loss and is retained & readable for 10yrs. 2.5" drive form factor so the same drive can fit in your desktop and laptop. Was on sale in March for $460.on my Acer Aspire 1410 Intel SU3500 & GS45 chipset a CrystalDiskMark 3.5.5a benchmark gives me Random Read: 512KB 190MB/s, 4KB(QD=1) 17MB/s 4166.5IOPS, 4KB(QD=32) 83MB/s 20200.7IOPS, Random Write: 512KB 112MB/s, 4KB(QD=1) 48MB/s 11819.2IOPS, 4KB(QD=32) 75MB/s 18409.4IOPS

Tip when setting up your drives always use the largest allocation unit size of your desired filesystemI've been using this in my laptop for like 90% of all the benefits/improvements SSDs have to offer. Even without the speed the reliability and endurance is a major benefit. In my laptop I'm currently using it with Vista. I don't see a huge performance improvement over the stock HDD that came in this laptop; however that could just be the result of using advanced performance improvements on the HDD previously, or some badly configured options in my vista currently. I do see the immediate/instant launch of apps, faster UAC dark screen prompt in Vista. Running benchmarks on small file 4KB-512KB random read/writes the SSD is 100-300 times faster vs my stock 5400RPM 2.5" HDD SATA2 in a usb2.0 enclosure.

Cons: Price, size, durability?

Pros: Fast, quiet

This is one of the fastest ssd drives available. Your windows will boot up in seconds. If you need the bay, buy the retail version. Otherwise, buy the oem version.

After having three hard drive failures, I thought I would bite the bullet and go high dollar solid state. This puppie is fast! My three year old machine feels as fast as when I built it now. Very fast startup. I hope these will prove reliable in the long haul. My thinking is, my USB keys have never given me any trouble.

Cons: Price.

Pros: Unbelievably FAST!! This was the best upgrade I have ever done.

I swapped out my HDD in my MacBook which is now 2 years old and I couldn't believe how much of an improvement it was. The disk installed easily into my MacBook and the file transfer was also easy, as soon as I powered it up following the install I couldn't believe how quickly OS X launched! This upgrade has definitely saved me from buying a new laptop and added at least a couple more years of lifespan. I expect an improvement in my battery life, however I have not had time to objectively review that yet.

I bought this solid state drive to replace the stock hard drive provided with a new mini. I anticipated that a solid state drive would be faster than a spinning hard drive but I was blown away. It is so fast that my image design software loads in less than 3 seconds maybe 2 and for those of you that have high end design software you'll know this is incredible. Normal size programs like word processing or spreadsheets open in the blink of an eye. No exaggeration, if you blink you will miss it really. Fast Fast Fast and it fit in the mini drive bay perfectly. Just watch a video to see how to open the new mini and you'll see what a compact area that is. I also bought a drive housing to connect the old drive via fwire so the little computer's storage is immense now. The speed is staggering. I highly recommend it. It will no doubt be THE standard drive space for new machines in the coming years. It is much more reliable than a moving hard disk could ever be. Enjoy

Cons: Expensive, limited capacity

Pros: Fast, rugged, low power
Comment:
The unit I bought at the start of January 2010 (not from NCIX) did not have the TRIM version of firmware, but I had no problem downloading it from Intel and installing it on the drive. It's very easy to get used to the speed of this drive and start to take it for granted, but a few moments on another computer renews your appreciation for it.For those interested in a feel for the kind of performance improvements this gives, I've posted a You-Tube video with a side-by-side comparison of this drive and a WD Green drive booting Windows 7 and starting Firefox - you can see it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTHX0MqVMss

Cons: Switch to ACPI has inconvenient interactions with the OSExpensive in terms of cost/GB

Pros: Extremely fastTinySilent
Comment:
As far as the drive goes, it's excellent. It just makes everything from simple office work to photoshop instantaneous. The only issues I ran into were related to switching my SATA controller to ACPI mode. You basically have to reinstall your OS to be safe (not a huge problem in this case since I was installing it on the new drive), but it also caused a few other problems:1) It added a long boot time to the windows logo... luckily this went away after a few days for some reason.2) It caused my large 1GB SATA drive to "disappear" after coming out of sleep sometimes. I eventually found a Microsoft hotfix for this which works well and I'm back in business. So a few minor hurdles with getting this up and running, but all related to ACPI rather than the drive itself. Now that all is back to normal it's an absolute pleasure to use - highly recommended if you have the cash!

Cons: - EXPENSIVE- Low capacity- Write speed could be better

Pros: - Screaming fast- Dead silent- Low power usage- Small- Includes desktop adapter
Comment:
In summary, a necessary luxury. I am coming from a Velociraptor and the performance increase is significantly noticeable. The main advantage is applications launch time. With this baby, most applications load almost instantaneously. My PC feels more snappy. Of course, a high-end SSD will increase gaming FPS so expectation must be realistic. This thing is silent which is also an improvement from the VR. Now, when will we see 300GB drives below $250? This review was modfied by poster @ 11-13-09 09:56 PM

Cons: Still cost a lot more than normal hard drive

Pros: Boot time, game loading time and program installation is a lot faster than my old 7200.12 drive.
Comment:
If you have a fast machine with lots of rams and turn on Vista's superfetch, you won't see a big different, still you will feel it is faster in game loading time and program installation. I will recommend this item if you looking for a fast/good upgrade to your computer.

Cons: Intel QA process for firmware updates

Pros: Insanely fast, Quite, no heat/active cooling required
Comment:
I received this unit after my 80GB got bricked due to a faulty Intel Firmware update  for the ATA Trim command. From POST to windows login prompt is ten seconds, can't beat that (but I will not be applying firmware update s any time soon)
