Cons: Didnt make me dinner last night.
Pros: Easy set up. Very affordable for a Gigabit router. Quick and strong signal. Comment:
I was debating between the Netgear WNDR3700 (rev 4.0) and this router back in July. I went with the Netgear because of the larger amount of reviews. Spent more too. The router died last week, roughly 4 months in. Thanks Netgear! Anyways, so I went back to my other choice and bought the TP Link, and well although Ive had it for less time, so far so good. It was cheaper to buy too. I got the extended warranty just in case, but hopefully never need to use it. I usually dont get them, but thanks again Netgear!! That left me paranoid I have better feelings about this one though! Avoid Netgear!!! |

Cons: Wokring fine so far
Pros: Fast, 128Mo Ram, DD-WRT friendly Comment:
I replaced my WRT320n running DD-WRT with this router after a recommendation by one of the main DD-WRT dev (Brainslayer). I installed DD-WRT 22118 right away without any hassle and it's work like a charm. Way faster than my older router. For a router with a good IC (Atheros instead of cheap Broadcom), good memory size (128Mo instead of standard 32Mo), at this price this is really a steal. |

Cons: -Useless 2.4Ghz-Takes about an minute to reset when saving router configuration
Pros: -Cheap-Working great at 5.0Ghz-Reasonable long range Comment:
Bought this router as a replacement for my old Cisco wrt160n.The initial setup of this router is quite simple, just follow the "quick setup" at the router's web interface and you should be done within 5 minutes. The range is definitely better than my old router. The 5Ghz wifi able to reach the furthest room with almost full speed, which my old router not even close in reaching that area. The speed was almost maxed to my internet provider speed as well.(Download 25Mb/s, Upload 12Mb/s)However, the 2.4Ghz (Wifi b/g/n) is horrible. It's worst than my old router and the connection is constantly dropping. The network doesn't even let me join the network, or sometimes just disappeared off the list when I set it to wifi b/g/n mixed. If I set it to wifi g only, I could join the network, but the speed is like old snail that can die anytime. The 2.4 Ghz connection has 0.3Mb/s for downloads and uploads when I put my laptop right beside it. No idea what's going on, but it's completely useless.Tried each settings, and 2.4Ghz still not working.Even upgrade it with the newest firmware, the 2.4Ghz just doesn't work properly.Speedtest result in the furthest room.5Ghz - http://i.imgur.com/bYNbw.png (Almost max)2.4Ghz - Just gave me an error during the test due to disconnection...Overall, I am extremely happy with its 5Ghz speed, but also extremely upset with the 2.4Ghz, because the 2.4Ghz wifi reader that I gifted to my parent during Xmas became half useless. What a sad Christmas. I regret that I didn't test it thoroughly after I bought this. (The 5Ghz on this router worked extremely well, so I didn't check the 2.4Ghz.) Now I am over the 30 days usage, so I can't return it or exchange it. :(Since it didn't work as promise, I give it one star. But if the 2.4Ghz worked as promise, I would give it a full 5 stars. |

Cons: Glossy finish makes it a fingerprint and scratch magnet.
Pros: Wireless N, high theoretical transfer rate Comment:
Does the job. Range is not the greatest. Note that there are 3 walls between me and the router. Very easy to set up and maintain. Lots of features that allow for NAS via usb to remote management. Great product for the price and it looks nice when you clean off all the prints. |

Cons: Web-Menu is fine for a techie but disorienting and confusing for a newbie. This could be designed more intuitively. No direct firmware updates from the menu.
Pros: Very fast, very good range, 4 gigabit LAN, all the essential features, 2USB with print and ftp servers, manual wifi switch, VPN passthrough, glossy black finish, awesome blue ligts on the front edge. Very fast cpu for saves/reboots. Helpful notes on the web-menu. 2 yr warranty. Comment:
This is a poor man's RT-N66U (which I have) for $90+ less. This was a steal at $50 on Cyber Monday from NCIX (thankU).The signal strength and speed is very very good but not quite as good as the excellent RT-N66U. Web surfable with no dropouts (~ 25Mps from basement to 2 floors up and 3+ walls at the other end of the house - that's about 150 feet).Definetely superior to DIR-655 and glad I got this over its venerable brother WR1043ND at the same price point.Just Superb!!! |
Bought this to replace the router provided by shaw. Have had no problems so far. Range is great off this router and the 5ghz network is FAST (and has a fantastic range). Can't speak to the 2.4 ghz network, there is too much wireless interference in my particular condo from neighboring units, however the 2.4g network does seem to work fine for the phones/tablets... The firmware shipped with this router is quite out of date, I would highly recommend going to tp-link's website as soon as it's connected to download/update asap...
