OK, after using this unit for a year my impressions are as follows: This unit is not very efficient so it puts out a great deal of heat from its enclosure sides. As others have mentioned I have noticed voltage fluctuations even at idle that seem ''odd''. But really these are the negatives that I have experienced. I use this with an E VGA 759 board, i7 920 C0 at 3.8MHz (for over a year) 6gb Corsair, 5870, 4870x2, Triple 28'' LCD's, b ray burner, dual DVD burners, 10 internal hard drives and tons of other lights, bells whistles and fans. The modular cables are nice, allowing for neat bending, routing and bundling together with zip ties. I connect this to a 1500AVR backup battery and is about 75 percent loaded by the current draw. I had thought about a PC power or Silver stone but found this locally at this site. If I were a bit more patient and had this to do over, I would probably go with a more efficient unit than this. Just for every ones info 15 amps at 120 volts equals 1800 watts Most people have 120volts present or slightly more at any outlet. A 15 amp circuit will provide plenty of power for this power supply at maximum load. However there is not much room on a 15 amp circuit for anything else. SO a dedicated 15 amp circuit would be fine. By the way one would use 14 gauge wire. 20 amps at 120 volts equals 2400 watts. Use 12 gauge wire on a 20 amp breaker. Clear as mud? |

I don't see why everybody else is having issues with this PSU. I am running GTX 280 SLI X3 on a 20A outlet and have not had a single issue with it. Maybe you guys aren't allowing enough air flow through your system |

This PSU may be alright and to do it justice I was unable to test it against a 220v plug, so my opion is based soley on its performance on a 120v setup. The first PSU lasted roughly a week before it would no longer boot up, the second PSU lasted one boot! I finally decided to get a refund for this PSU and went with a PCP&C 1200W and haven't had another issue, much more expensive, but cheep in compairison to the rest of my parts. The last review is incorrect you cannon just go to your local hardware store and purchase a 5 dollar 20amp plug you need to make sure the plug itself sits on a 20amp circuit to utilize the full 1600w of this power supply. To do that you need to look at the circuit breaker in your breaker box and see if it is rated to provide 20 amps. It most most likely will not be because i don't know who in their right mind would put a 15 amp outlet on a 20 amp circuit, anyway if it is only 15amp then you need to run a completely new 20amp curcuit, i would talk to an electritian about that part if you have never worked with electricity before, because gauges of wires come into play. The reason why it works on many 15 amp circuits is because the computer the power supply powers doesn't draw more then the 15amp circuit can provide, which means this power suplly is more then enough for most. Just remember a 15amp outlet can supply about 1500w |

This power supply works flawlessly for me, as far as the power being there like others say but the rails not able to keep up with the gtx 275 thats not correct, i am running 3-way sli with BFG GeForce GTX 285 OCFU Video Cards and i have no problems what soever with the computer, plays all games no problem and all 3-d games i play have no issues at all either, the review saying that the power supply is only 1200 watts unless you go to 220 plug in is also wrong, to get the full benefit of the power supply you have to swith your wall plug to a 20 amp 120 plug instead of a 15 amp 120 plug in, both cords come with the power supply and all you do is go to the hardware store and buy a $5 plug in and replace your plug in, takes all of a 15 minute job and the 20 amp plug in is still compatible with a normal plug in, people need to get the facts right before saying certain things. All in all, this is a top notch power supply and i will buy another if needed. |

Tolerance specs are not shown in ad, but are printed in the manual - 5v overvoltage rated 6.3v, 12v overvoltage rated 15v, 3.3v overvoltage rated 4.2v. So, unless you can handle a 25 percent voltage fluctuation (I have no clue what electronic devices can tolerate that much overvoltage, but certainly no computer components that I would use), don't bother with this! |

Here is the deal. This power supply will only output at 1200 watts. If you want to fully utilize it, you have to plug it into a 220 volt socket. That's the socket that you plug in your stove or a refrigerator. So you'll have to have an electrician come out and actually install a dedicated line from your box straight to your computer to get the 1600 watts that this thing can put out. I'm running so many power demanding things right now it's insane, and this thing is just laughing at me. You will not have to upgrade for a long long long time to come, so if you know you will be upgrading through the years and want something that is going to last through all of that, this is the right purchase. If you just want something that is going to work and don't want to spend that much, go somewhere else. :D |

if you are going to be running the newer video cards like the GTX 275 and up, DO NOT get this power supply. it has plenty of power but its not regulated tightly enough. The newer cards need very well regulated 12v rails. I have one of these power supplies and can run all day with my dual 9800 GTX's but I recently upgraded to 275's and AS SOON as you go into any game the system shuts off like a light switch! go ahead and google it too, you'll find dozens of threads with the same complaint! |

Although this psu is a monster, it delivers and performs as described. Great value!! I was worried about heating in my Z-Machine(mid-tower) because of the power I am pushing and the space , but I have not had any problems. Very Pleased! |

PC would shutdown when running 3d apps.(GTX 280 SLI, 790I mobo, Q9550 cpu, dvd drive, blue ray drive, 10k velocity raptor hd). Have a dedicated 20A outlet. PS had a slight chirping noise just before it would shutdown so I RMA the first X3 1600W. Replacement one did exactly the same. Thought maybe it was some other piece of hardware causing the problem. After troubleshooting and changing settings and voltages for about 6 months I bit the bullet bought a silverstone strider 1500w and bingo no shutdowns at all. Not impressed with the X3 at all. It seems as if it just cant handle the GTX 280 in sli. I have read online some other people having the same issue. |

bought one of this and when i put a video card started to shut down my system called ultra and the y said that they were having issues with this series of cards wich is not true so they said that they will send me a "revised" unit unit came in 4 days came sealed with new cables and everything brand new i dont know if is revised or not but it works great costumer service is great i recomend it but for 330 dollars you expect to pay top quality |

I havent had a single major problem, i did have to take the fan screen off so i could fit it, my cpu fan is a Thermaltake orb and thats massive, it was a really close fit but it works and this thing is still powering my sli system quad core system perfect |

The X3 ultra is the best PSU on the market it looks nice and it runs like a dream. The cost may be off putting, but its worth totally it. I am useing this in my newest Rig and i am very happy with is Psu. It great for upgrade down the road. I am only useing around 1000 Watt atm. |

I've been using this (and the 1000 in an HTPC) for over a year. Both have been rock solid. The 1600 is powering a Q9650, 8G 1333, 6 fans, 2 HD4870s in cf, a 4x500G raid 10, a 1 TB bu drive, 3 DVD burners, physX card, and lights. Note: to get 1600W you need to either run a 220 line or a 20amp 120 line. AND get an appropriate line protector. 20amp surge protection from panamax is the best. |

The size is cumbersome (had to take apart most of my case and put it back together around it to get the power supply in), but wow, this power supply is great. The modular cable system makes cable management so much easier, making it very user friendly. On top of that, the finish looks great.I chose this Power Supply after a recommendation from a friend, and because I hoped to have something I could "grow" into. So far, no regrets. |

This thing is solid. It doesn't run very hot at all and it has 2 circulation fans inside it. Because of the size though, it's intake fan does not match up with the bottom of my computer case (my case (the Thermal Take Spedo full tower) has the power supply on the bottom). other than that it's solid and has to be one of the best! |

This psu delivers all that is expected. The only caution, that does not bring any of the ratings down, be sure that you have enough room, or have an unobstructed way into your case. This guy is humongous. The Thermaltake Armor case I purchased no longer has a support bar in the middle as it did before. A great buy. |

I am running an EVGA 680i SLI motherboard, 2 - XFX 8800 ultra graphic boards connected SLI, two DVD burners, 2 - 160 Gb Hard Drives, 1 - 500 Gb Hard drive, many computer case lights, 12 fans (including the two in the power supply),8 USB devices (printers, keypad, mouse, wireless ant., etc., one external 500 Gb Hard drive (esata), and this power supply has no problem running all of them at once, while running intense graphics. |

This power Supply comes with 2 different power cords. one for 15amp and one for 20amp. to get the full 1600watts you neet to use the 20amp cord. BUT!! If you get an outlet that fits the 20amp cord, set up a Breaker for 220v like your stove or range. Use a Dual Pole 20amp breaker, and run black to one, and white to the other, and hook up your ground to GND bar. This doubles the voltage to the PSU, in turn, 1/2's the current used, saving you 50% on your electric bill. Tranformer in PSU is autosensing, so it has a slight high pitch Hum at 220v, not very noticable, but normal. Paid for itself already!! |

If you do your math right for wattage. It is 120volts times 15amps equals 1800watts The only thing I suggest is that it has to be the only thing on that circuit, meaning nothing else drawing power from that circuit.
