Physically connects a printer 1284 connector to a USB port Didn't function, poor consumer service. Connected a HP 820 Cse inkjet printer employing windows vista and linux. Printer was recognized by each systems, drivers loaded effectively and ready print message rec. When print was chosen absolutely nothing occurred. Printer operates effectively in windows xp with a 1284 to 1284 interface. Producers web site states that windows vista and 7 are supported. The only interface computer software available on furnished disk or internet web page is for windows 95, 98 and ME. I emailed customer service eight days ago and asked if I necessary interface software program for the cable to operate with windows vista or 7. There has been no reply. It seems I have wasted ภ that I could have utilised for a printer upgrade.

Nicely... they have the cable/technology to connect printers via USB if you need to have to. That's the only pro I can consider of. Had to try this out considering that it was the only a single of it's type on NewEgg atm. Soon after providing it a try and taking the time to get this connected, it turns out you in fact require the drivers to get this cable working. It is asking for drivers of a "ECP Printer Port". I have Windows XP 32-bit House Edition on my laptop and I thought I could get my old HP OfficeJet T45 connected to it. I was capable to get the computer software and anything connected, but regrettably... the drivers are needed and are only available for Windows 95ኾ/NT. There are no drivers available for XP/Vista like their web page stated (http://www.byteccusa.com/product/adapter/USB-1284/USB-1284.htm). I have currently tried the Windows 95ኾ/NT drivers and I can\'t locate a way around it. This needs an upgrade considering that more and much more users are employing the latest operating systems. Otherwise, this item shouldn't be listed. Sending this item back for a refund. Specifically what Cphood mentioned. Don't acquire this item till the manufacturer can come up with the driver for the newest operating systems that performs. If you have the Windows 95ኾ/NT operating program on your laptop or computer, give it a attempt. Otherwise, the trouble involved isn't important. It seems straightforward enough to the point where you can set it all up and you'll be ready to go... but this may not be exactly what you would have in thoughts... and may possibly not be what you paid for. Just a word of caution prior to you buy and try it out. GL if you do!

My Windows Xp located the cable and installed it automatically. Flawless Just a tiny brief but I utilized a usb extention cable to solve that problem. I believe folks count on this cable to solve their usb printer problems but if you don't know what usb port it sets up on you can have difficulties. You have to load the printer driver on the correct USB port. USB ports still get confused and that confuses most personal computer users.
