What can you say about WD? I have only made the mistake of purchasing a Seagate drive once and I won't make that mistake again. Even though I normally take WD Black I felt this was a better balance for price and size and I have been very happy with my decision. |

Cons: only two year warranty (used to be three)
Pros: perfect for storagequietruns cool Comment:
I got two of these hard drives in my main rig for the sole purpose of storing movies that are shared on the home network. I've been using the WD Green series for many years for that same purpose and have never had an issue. I also have two 4TB Deskstar 7K4000's in my system and the performance of the WD Green's is pretty close to those more "high end" hard drives. A two minute quick seek test in Hard Drive Sentinel averaged 7.40ms for the inactive WD Green drive, and 9.14ms for the other drive that is currently streaming an HD video over the home network. In comparison, the two Deskstar's inactive average seek times were only slightly better at 6.44ms and 6.46ms.Temperature wise, in my rig with two 120mm fans for intake, the max recorded temperatures over the one week that I've had the two WD Green's are 27C and 25C for each drive, with the average temperature being 24C to 25C. Minimum temperature recorded was 22C for each drive. For comparison, my Deskstar's average around 27C to 28C in the system. The WD Green's have always been quiet drives, and the 4TB version is no exception. They also consume less power than the average hard drive. They also tend to cost slightly less. They also run cooler. They are also more reliable. The only "negative" is that they are not super fast drives in comparison to the competition. Perfect for almost any use that isn't being your main hard drive. |

Bought this as a movie drive. Can't complain for $160 on-sale. Rather buy a WD green than take a chance on Seagate or Hitachi. Recommended. |
I'm using one of these as a media drive. It has plenty of storage, decent speed and doesn't make a lot of noise. It's Western Digital so you know it has pretty good reliability as well.
