Large drive, functions best correct out of the box and the value is right. Could be smaller sized. No frills usb 2. Not super quickly but gets the job carried out.

massive capacity, quiet, cool Too slow to be valuable, if it was a 250 GB drive, I may possibly not notice it so considerably. But, at 1.5TB, it would take forever to fill it. Aspect of the challenge is that it comes formatted as NTFS. And, I use Linux and Mac. In no way the much less, I attempted to keep it as NTFS since I purchased Acronis to do my backups, which I can run from CD, and it appears to choose NTFS (even even though it's constructed with Linux -- hypocrites!). So, it could be possible that the ntfs-3g driver might be the main drag on efficiency.

No Annoying application preloaded, good price tag for 1.5TB, reads/writes quickly for my demands. The very best aspect for me is the size. I have one more WD HD that's a 2TB that's a good massive bigger than this drive. Given that all I was working with this 1.5 for is to back up the much more important stuff on my 2TB drive I was hoping for a smaller sized drive when storing it in my closet. This drive fits the bill completely. None

Works. I ordered two of them to double back my hard drives. None. WD tends to make their stuff fairly solidly. Never ever had one really hard drive fail on me due to the fact I started making use of their stuff, 5 six years ago. I do wish the warranty was longer as some other HD companies give 2-three years.

Pros - The hard drive is compact and relatively durable. The cords unplug very easily sufficient that accidentally yanking the cords shouldn't pull the challenging drive, but not loose enough that they fall out regularly. In addition to this the tough drive stays cool and can run games off of it. Cons - None that I have discovered but For the value paid this really hard drive has offered a excellent bit of space. Definitely a good obtain.

Fantastic value on sale.Worked nicely.Appears very good. Great non slippery pads beneath it. Broke. Like most negative reviews on here this drive broke down on me in its early life ƒ days of use). I'm out ten$ to send it back to Newegg but such is life. Hopefully they replace it.

Runs cool and quiet. No energy switch. Drive would go off line soon after a handful of hours and throughout a copy of about 450 gig. The outcome was file corruption and a hung laptop. Will RMA and see if one more drive will do the job. Will need large backup for video files.

Got this on sale in the course of the Black Friday event, and it's properly worth the funds. Quiet, effective, and a truly solid buy thinking of the price tag and the space. I can stream video on it with out any challenges at all. Incredibly slick, portable, and all round good. None. Actually good if you can get it on sale, and it's really strong.

Recognized flawlessly by Win XP and Win 7. Sleek design and style. Big storage capacity. The offered USB cord is a bit on the brief side. Could be a pro in some men and women's situations but there isn't substantially indication that the drive is on; just a smaller white LED on the back. A good drive and purchased at an unbelievable value thanks to Newegg.

Value: Quite economical, was in a position to snag it off Newegg for ๕.99 with free of charge shipping.Design: Sleek, quiet, not too heavy, and smaller sufficient to tote about fairly quickly (may be a tiny as well major for some laptop carrying situations, though.)Data storage: 1.5TB drive, 1.36TB is usable on my drive. Almost certainly could get a lot more if I reformatted it, but it doesn't bother me due to the fact it has plenty of space for what I use it for.Uncomplicated to use: Just plug it in and you're prepared to start transferring information to it. A small light on the back of the device will start to flash a bright white color when it's transferring information. After it's accomplished, it will stay on a strong white till it is powered off or unplugged from your computer system. This is a wonderful external HD. I use it to back up fairly substantially every thing on my pc; music, saved game information, images, and so on. I back up my data about as soon as a week; the drive stays in the closet during all other instances. Two issues, but neither are worth deducting an egg for:It would be good if the activity LED was on the front of the device alternatively of the back. That's just private preference, although. The data transfer prices are slower than some tough drives than you can purchase, but I knew this when I purchased it. It's USB 2., what can you count on? Go for one thing else if you want super quick speeds. You can also use the Advanced Format alternative on Western Digital's website if it is applicable to your operating method. Wonderful hard drive, I've had it for practically a month now. No problems from what I can inform, although I've only applied it three instances since buy.

Works good. The blinking light in the back never ever stops blinking when the drive is on, so if it's close to a wall and you are in the dark - it's reflecting and actually distracting, specifically if it's hooked up to the home theater and you're watching Tv and the light keeps flashing on the wall. One more major con - the lack of Off button - you need to have to unplug it from the wall each and every time you want to turn it off.

the shape of the drive, how quiet it is. it genuinely appears nice. fairly decent speeds when i had it working. no energy switch. (not a major deal for me) the drive fails to be recognized by my desktop running xp and soon after trying with my windows 7 laptop it has the very same problem. this is a identified issue, i figured soon after googling the error message i would receive. not only did i pay like 贍.99 for this drive it went on sale for 79.99 shortly immediately after. it worked just fine at first till windows just quit recognizing the drive and occasionally would inform me i'm operating a usb1.1 device. all this is strange and i'm not positive why i'm finding all this. I just wanted a drive to backup my information not even an each day use HD and i've had difficulties in the practically 1 year i've owned it. on the handful of occaisions it did perform i would rapidly transfer as a lot of files as feasible before it would disappear me on me once again.

Actually, genuinely quiet. No front activity light. No power switch. It's so quiet I can't inform that it's on unless I look at the back for the small blinky light. It's sealed up tight. Not certain how uncomplicated it would be to replace the drive.

Then I attempted linux, windows 7, vista, and then mac, worked on Mac but practically nothing else. Then attempted reformatting back to windows nonetheless won't reformat :( worked wonderful till a single day out of no one particular doesn't function on windows...

Excellent 1.5TB exernal backup drive. I purchased a single of these final Christmas to backup all my FLAC music files. From the moment I plugged it in, it delivered superb overall performance out of the box and I've by no means knowledgeable a single situation. The explanation I took off an egg was not since of the drive itself or efficiency, but because the only way you can tell that this drive is on and plugged in is by searching at the back of the external case where a really tiny white light flashes when the unit is powered on. Also, there is no energy switch for the unit... (?) Why is there no power switch?? ...in other words, it only has one particular setting - if the external is plugged in, then it's turned on with the drive spinning. This suggests that to turn it off, you have to pull the plug, and hope that you don't misplace the energy cord. Outstanding drive if you're looking for a 1.5TB backup drive. I wish it had a power switch, but I only plug it in after each month or two to back up my FLAC collection, so I won't take off far more than one particular egg...

Drive was sleek, basic, quiet, effective transfer rates for it's capacity. No complaints about form or function (until failure just after two.5 months). Bought sixǚ񲿢. Took out of box and set up as weekly backup drive on 8ቫቦ. Abruptly failed tenቹቦ, 'unrecognized device' in device manager, makes grinding noises when turned on then stops spinning and light on rear flashes. Haven't had a drive fail like this in a lengthy time, I ordinarily get intermittent problems / electronics, not physical failure! This is specifically why I have a mirrored raid array with two alternating weekly backup drives. Drives fail, from any manufacturer (just some have superior failure prices than other individuals), so if you aren't ready for that, you can't blame the manufacturer. Acquiring a replacement drive from WD, hopefully soon so I hold my redundancy going N!

Plugged in and recognized in Windows 7 ࿠), no application required. I was shocked at how quiet and cool it runs. So far so very good. Solution does not appear to improve flavor of my coffee. Making use of it as a back up drive (the Windows 7 back- up utility is exceptionally high-quality) and for transferring video files off my overloaded major drive.

Enormous capacity, outstanding price tag, small style I dont like the ones that have external energy supply but I got it simply because of the cost. Wouldnt be a challenge but i get two computers on the same desk and there are a lot of cords. Definantly worth the cash. Decent warrenty, i consider three years. I was going to get a 500 gb on that was powered by the USB only then I saw this one for ten dollars far more so i got it.
