Pros: Sturdy, looks great

This little guy served me well for the travels. No disconnects, very sturdy even after tossing it around a bit. I am very happy with this purchase. It even looks great!

Cons: - Glossy surface scratches easily

Pros: - Small, compact size- Good value for the size
Comment:
For all the people who think that this hard drive is using a proprietary cable, it's not. It's a micro-usb cord; same cord that all of the new Motorola and Blackberry phones are using. Hard drive looks great and works just like any other hard drive. Looks awesome, however, the glossy finish gets scratched up very easily. Get a case for it ASAP.

Cons: Proprietary USB cable

Pros: High Capacity, Small Form Factor
Comment:
This drive has an amazing capacity for its form factor in the current market. The speed is what you expect from a 2.5" 5400rpm USB hard disk. However, an important factor for an external hard drive is its portability. This drive comes with a non-standard USB cable. You have to carry it everywhere or you won't be able to use the drive. Also if you lose the cable you'd have a hard time replacing it and until you do, you can't access your data. I wouldn't purchase another one of these for this reason. Also the USB cable is very short. It's hard to use on a desktop machine with no front USB port. Again you can't use a longer cable because it's non-standard.

Cons: the drive has non-standard USB cable. very annoying

Pros: well, the drive works...
Comment:
Warning: This external disk has non-standard USB cables.usually these external disks have a mini-USB connector on the drive side. This one has a different (proprietary?) connectorI find this annoying because if I loose the cable I am stuck, and I always have to carry the cable as well...Apart from that it works well, seem a bit slow but OK

Cons: cable short, built-in software not removable

Pros: compact, quiet, great price
Comment:
Bought one 750GB a few month ago and almost full. For the price of 150$ is a good price/performance for this 1TB drive. Size is quite compact and very portable. The only thing I don't like about WD is their WD Smartware is not removable and regain some 600MB from the drive if you are not using it. USB cable is a bit short but if you have a front usb port from your PC, this shouldn't be a concern.

I never write about my products when I buy online, but this product changed my mind last night. I have around 800GB data in it and I felt that all those files are gone when the Hard-drive fell from my laptop wile I was walking and hit the hard-floor. I was so upset. Fortunately when I connected it back to laptop started working!! I suggest you get this one if you need it, but don't try it to see if it'll work after hitting hard-floor in a 1m distance.

I don't understand how people are having issues. I have two of these and they run all the time. There are times when I'm moving 100's of megs of data around and I have never had a disconnect.

I am currently using a 320 Gb and a 750 Gb WD portable drive without any problems. They are quiet, error free and durable. When I travel I tuck them in my tech bag and use them to retrieve old files, movies and pictures I no longer keep on my computer hard drive. I noticed in the reviews most users mentioned windows PCs and not a Mac; therein could be the problem and not the WD drive. Think about it.

Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere for another brand. I have been purchasing this brand for over 10 years and if this is what that future holds in their products, I have bought my last one. The harddrive has been nothing but a headache since I first plugged it in to two different computers, one with XP and the other with 7. The

I had the same problem with a 320 WD passport and replaced the cable. As absurd as it seems, it solved the problem.

These drives are very touchy. I run three of these HDs each separately when needed and Windows constantly detects and undetects them or some days the HD won't even get detected and are useless. They have fixed the loose USB cable that everyone complains about but overall the hassle of trying to get these HDs to work is not worth the hassle. I would NOT BUY the WD external HDs anymore.

I must be the only person that is not having any problems with this drive. It works great without any disconnect issues several others have mentioned. I have a suggestion plug it in and leave it alone and it won't disconnect on you guys. It works fine for me and I have yet to have any connection problems even when I do move it around some. But I do have to admit Iomega drives have a better warranty (3 years) as opposed to WD (1 year).

As others have said before me, the micro USB connection is too sensitive. Disconnects at the slightest bump!

it has a loose connection that disconnects very easily, just super-glue it in.

I've previously had a 250G Western Digital that had the same problems with the micro-USB as everyone else is running into. MY HP laptop has an extra bay for a SATA HDD... Installed and working smoothly! I don't know anyone else who has 1.5T in a laptop computer...

The Micro USB connection is poor. Slight movement of the drive or cable and you loose your connection. Returned the drive the next day.

Bought and returned on the same day. The new micro connection is really unstable and if you move the drive you will loose your connection. Very frustrating. Don't do it.

Cons: A little slow, often improperly loads.

Pros: Reliable, small, compact, easy-to-use, ready instantly.
Comment:
I bought the 250GB version of this hard drive about 8 months ago to replace my failed memory stick. It has been extremely reliable, portable, and useful. I have unfortunately already filled it up but I'm going to buy a 1TB express hard drive by western digital because I have been so pleased with it's results. The only problem is it's a little slow, and sometimes when it is plugged in it is improperly read and gives me a good scare by saying it has not been formatted, but after rebooting it it works fine. I run a private computer repair service and I recommend this hard drive to all my customers. Buy this product, you won't be disappointed.
