Incredibly modest drive, smaller sized than previous Element Portables, but also slightly taller. Amazing amount of storage in such a little package. The USB connection is a regular USB Micro, widespread on Blackberries and newer model Cell Phones. While the USB is a standard form of interface (contrary to other reviewers) it does feel a tad flimsier than my preceding USB Mini WE Transportable Drive. Fantastic Item, I like that the majority of the top rated and bottom are matte rather than piano finish. Logo and sides are in Piano, but that is acceptable. I want I could locate a challenging case which fits this drive a bit far more snugly, most are made primarily based on earlier larger length portables.

None Get this ONLY if you want transfer speeds for 1 to 2meg.Very, quite slow.I'm so sorry I purchased mine. Read the boards at Western Digital. One thing is incorrect with this drive. WD ought to be ashamed of itself Not blaming Newegg, they aren't psychic!

Smaller, Good Finish, Higher Capacity I've had two of these drive fail inside two months of every other (purchased at the similar time). The initial failure price me 轜 to recover the information. Th second failure, thank goodness, just had my Adobe Lightroom three. Catalog on it. Not worth the danger ladies and gentlemen! The corporation which recovered the information for me told me these specific drives from Western Digital have a quite higher failure rate. At the time I picked up my recovered information, they had four other drives requiring data recovery. WD is conscious of the troubles with this drive, don't even attempt to get assistance, they will do nothing at all at all.

Black, Boring. Operates. Stays cool. A little "taller" than other portable drives ƒ.five"x1tb is fatter drive than single platter present hard drives) but WD makes up for it by not producing the case any longer than the drive (usb host chip must be suitable on the drive, not separate board?)..... so its nevertheless quite darn tiny Like every person says, makes use of micro usb. Wooptie do, so does my blackberry.

+ Modest, elegant design and style+ Quiet+ Runs cool even without having ventilation+ No ventilation for dust, liquids to get into (though I'm certain it isn't sealed)+ As with most portable drives with a laptop HDD, needs no extra power connector (in fact, there's nowhere to plug 1 in at all). - Uses a mini-USB cable. This is fine, since a full-size USB cable would be a bit big for the drive. Nonetheless, complete-size USB is more prevalent.- Not USB3. I get at most 27MB/sec STR, although the drive inside is capable of more than 60MB/sec STR. I like how the cable connection is inset into the drive chassis. This somewhat aids safeguard the connector. This is my second unit. The first a single had poor sectors. I didn't take away an egg for this mainly because really hard drive damage us usually triggered by careless shippers (UPS), not poor QC.

- The value is suitable.- Quite compact, straightforward design.- High capacity, no bloatware or limitations.- No troubles with the micro USB connector.- Matte case, no fingerprint troubles. A bit thick. Warranty not as long as other drives. I first purchased the Passport but returned it. I didn't thoughts the Wave stuff so substantially, but the micro USB connector was way loose and cable would fall out. Also, the high cap Passport only comes in shiny black and is a huge time finger print magnet. This drive is almost everything a USB drive should be.

Smaller - 2.5 inch form factorUSB poweredSimple storage (see below)Functions in linux out of the box My only minor gripe: The disk access LED is subsequent to the cable which typically points towards my laptop and away from me. I want the led was on the other side of the drive or on the top so it was much more visible. Not a pro or con for me, but other folks may possibly care that this drive utilizes the newer micro usb connector just like the WD passport, so your usb-mini cables won't function.I was in the industry for a 1TB usb drive with the 2.5in form aspect. I was disappointed with the poor evaluations of the WD passport which had quite a few complaints simply because of the dumbware that you can disable but can not get rid of (not to mention the reality that you want to find a windows machine to set up the firmware update required to disable that on the passport). This Components drive need to be the answer for anyone with these concerns. It is just simple storage as a single would count on in a usb disk.

can fit into my pocket, easy design and style, no will need for external power, 1TB storage, quiet, cool (as in low heat). -1 egg due to the fact: Why micro USB connector??? A lot of space for a mini USB or even regular USB connector. Working with an uncommon regular. So while on the go, I can't use the wildly offered USB or mini USB cords out there. Should carry a micro USB along with the drive. A minor annoyance. In an effort to conserve energy, the drive powers down quite frequently. Tends to make sense considering that this is in all probability going to be used with lap tops. So if there's over ӱmin of no activity, the next access from disk calls for it to spin up. Not a difficulty with information, but a potential issue with playing media off it. Especially if the media player ur employing caches information. When I play MP3s with VLC, VLC caches the song that I'm playing in memory, so when go to the subsequent song, the disk requirements to spin up once more, causing a pause in the middle of the song (like waiting to buffer on YT). This is depending on computer software, not important the drive's fault. But might be a deal breaker for u.

-Great cost-Lots of storage-USB powered-Smaller-Regular micro USB cable The unit was generating a clicking noise and failing to start up. I checked WD's help website and it recommended that there may well be a dilemma with either the USB cable or the amount of power the drive is finding by way of the port. I switched cables and applied a port on the back of the Computer direct into the mobo. Positive sufficient that fixed the challenge and why the unit loses 1 egg.

(You can\'t eliminate the drive to use in a laptop, or transfer to a FW800 enclosure.)Performance is quite slow. No benchmarks, but it's not blazing... that's for certain.Cable is extremely short.

I like the ease of use. Decent transfer speed. Not such a fan of the "nokia" style usb cord. It is also shorter than i would like. I also found that I can not rename the drive to anything else but the default. For the value, I feel it was a fantastic obtain.

Little, quiet I dropped two eggs because of the micro USB instead of a mini USB on my other portable drives. The plug is difficult to use also. The female receptacle in the drive wiggles a lot and it is difficult to know which way the plug orients when attaching it. I'm afraid it will break ahead of also extended. The white LED is Incredibly bright, but black tape solves that problem.

1tb of data storage in the palm of your hand AND not requiring an external power source. Its a Western Digital, so even when I have the occasional terrible device, its very effortless to get an RMA order worked out Minus 1 egg: Use's a micro USB cable connector, so I had to go purchase(on newegg, extremely low cost) a couple additional cables, since I am constantly forgetting had been I location them. No Minus egg's: It is a slow device, even though its USB two., I get considerably more quickly speeds when employing my Western Digital Scorpio 500gb drive in a USB 2. enclosure. Clearly its due to the truth that this 1tb spins slower, BUT for desktop data backup, you really should be only accessing this from time to time. i have been recommending this drive to buyers and friends who are looking to backup information from a desktop or laptop. Its very straightforward to use (as it doesn't require external power) and very effortless to transport. It is even a fantastic idea, if you have a media supported fire proof protected, to maintain a single as a disaster recovery solution (there's my perform talking). Even if a person steals your desktop at household, you can constantly repurchase a Dell, you can't repurchase your 3 month ago infant's pictures...If you need added storage for a desktop and laptop that you plan to access each and every day, you ought to stick with the Western Digital Scorpio drives and buy an enclosure. As constantly, feel totally free to gmail my nickname with concerns or comments

Size and $$ Only 1 so far that drops it to 4 eggs. The micro USB connector in the unit is not solidly mounted, it flexes quite a bit and feels as even though it will eventually break internally. We'll see how the connector holds up more than the subsequent numerous months/year.

At least it did not burn up with a thick, black, cloud of throat chocking smoke. It never ever worked. Could be that the issue was with the Rosewell docking station. Possibly a thing I failed to do, or did wrong. This tends to make a total of 3 not functioning HD's & three not operating docking stations from Newegg. Every thing else from Newegg worked as expected.

Really very good price tag for 1 Tera. Smaller size, could match in any pocket no difficulty. Extremely short cable, it's not genuinely an problem but it could be a little bit longer. Also the packaging comes with these plastic items that could be employed as a stand if it was created of superior material.

1TB 鿣GB) of StorageNo WD SmartWare like the PassportsWonderful for storing something None whatsoever It's not as massive as the image is created out to be. Just a bit thicker than the 1TB Passport, but way much better nonetheless. There is NO SMARTWARE with this, so it's a pure storage disk. Get this rather of the Passport and get much more storage devoid of the annoying CRAPWARE! Not to meantion, it's ฮ less costly than the 1TB passport. Get this!-I have had the passport just before, it's good except for the SmartWare. This is a much far better product, unless you occur to be the uncommon user to use the SmartWare.

Little, lightweight, lots of storage. MicroUSB is very slow for me. Compared to the greater, heavier, and externally powered MyBook from WD that I have, the file access on this drive is quite slow. It searches a second for the folder structure when exploring the drive and for that reason is not genuinely suited to working straight from the drive. Saves and opens take extended adequate to be slightly annoying, especially with media files, but not truly long enough to get rid of the drive. It's a excellent tiny backup drive and is considerably smaller sized to take on trips than the MyBook, which is why I purchased it.

As quickly as any USB drive. Decently padded internally to survive smaller bumps and jolts. The internal drive connector is proprietary. I expected it to be a fundamental SATA drive (the internal drive DOES say it's SATA), but the only standard interface is micro USB. It's mounted directly on the drive itself, meaning this drive is ONLY usable as an external USB drive. Due to how 'flexible' the USB connection is, it FEELS low-cost and it flexes extremely far when plugging in or unplugging the micro USB connector. There's a lot of play in it. Personally inspecting it tells me that if/when it fails, the drive itself seems to have no way to repair it beyond soldering itself. If only there had been a USB/SATA adapter in use rather... The Cons I posted is incredibly much a con to me. When I obtain a 2.5" difficult drive, be it internal or external, I count on to be in a position to use it in any way I see match. It will be the last WD external I acquire.
