Cons: It requires an outlet (non portable)

Pros: Generally quiet operationGood write/read speedsUSB3.0 connection
Comment:
This is a very good external hard drive. It connects via USB 3.0 and is very quiet when operating. On boot-up or long writes it makes some noise, but is very bearable. The power button on the back only works if you install the included software. You can simply eject the disk to turn it off if you feel so inclined. I would recommend buying this storage device.

NONE The drive was DOA suitable out of the box. None of the USB ports would recognize the drive. These high finish drives need to be more reputable but WD high quality handle does not look to be improving more than the years. Additional WD replacement is generally with a refurbished drive, not fantastic client service. Luckily Newegg knows how to operate a very good buyer service system for a new replacement.

Cons: bulky case, but not really an issue to me. Just hides behind my monitor.

Pros: Large storage space for a reasonable price
Comment:
Bought this on sale for $129.99 because my old 500GB external drive is full from backing up my photography photos. Would even think about purchasing another to make a backup of my backups... 4 star only until I can find an external drive that can guarantee I won't lose my files or ever fail...

two.72 TB storage immediately after formatLow expense per GBHandy for massive backups The enclosure powers down the driveWindows application monitors external drive overall health and temp. USB 3. is two or three occasions more rapidly than USB two. in backups The enclosure is unreliable; low-cost plastic. Enclosure stopped operating following about 30 days.Had to invest ำ more for a Rosewill SATA to USB 3. enclosure. The internal drive drive functions perfectly, but the enclosure is unreliable. Had to pry the original enclosure open and eliminate the drive. Opted for one more USB three. enclosure with a fan. Not sure if poor high quality control or excess heat is the issue.

-Power Switch!- 3TB usable when formatted GPT-Quiet-Drive limited speed more than USB three. (Wᜀ MB/s, RMB/s)-Runs really cool -None truly, the white LED indicator is quite bright, but absolutely nothing a tiny piece of electrical tape won't fix. I'm really pleased with this drive. I'm operating on a hackintosh rig with modbin's patch of the lacie drivers. Just location PXHCD.kext into /Extra/Extensions, repair permissions and reboot. I was shocked that the usable space was 3TB and not 2.7 TB as some other drives provide. Over USB two. it delivers (Wᛂ MB/s, Rᛈ MB/s), my USB two. drivers might be the culprit although.

Big capacity. Runs cool. Uncomplicated setup when it functions. Regrettably I have to alter my earlier five-egg review for this drive, as the enclosure died last night after two weeks and my Windows 7 OS could no longer detect the drive. I swapped a different USB 3. external drive and it did detect it, so I know it's the enclosure. The challenging drive looked like it was nevertheless fine regardless of the death of the enclosure, so I decided to try pulling it out of the enclosure. It's pretty easy to do if you don't care about ever putting it back in once again. Generally you need to have a tiny flathead screwdriver to open the seam in the case, and ideally a bigger flathead to pry it open. Then take out all the screws you can see and there are four rubber grips holding the drive to the frame. You need to have to bend a couple of these out of the way to twist the drive out, immediately after which you've got a bare drive and the controller card. Unscrew the controller card and you're completed. It's not as well terrible truly.

3 terabytes of space, quiet, fully plug and play on my Windows 7 x64 machine, and USB3 compatible. Preinstalled WD drive management application is effortlessly forgotten with a swift format. No big gripes so far and anything appears to be functioning fine. Really extended spin up time (ᡂ seconds from minimal energy state). Slow USB2 transfer speeds (average 20 MB/s sequential). The lengthy spin up is strange. Purchased this to consolidate three external drives into 1 and take advantage of USB3 when I upgrade my system or develop a new one altogether. Size and reliability were my key motivators; therefore I grabbed this one more than other selections in a similar price tag variety.

Pros: If it doesn't work the way it suppose to it's hard to find any Pros

It boots, it shows some files and folders, sometimes it even works. But... files and folders disappear without any particular reason. Some details:My idea was to connect it through a router as a NAS drife. My choice for the router was ASUS RT-N65U (bought at the same time and still works fine). At the beginning everythig seemed to be OK. I was able to mount the drive to the USB 3.0 port of the router. I could copy some movies and music and later veiew ot listen to it. However, at one point I'd realized that some movies I remember having copied to the drive started disappearing. They were not showing in Windows explorer. I then started Googling the "files disappearing from My Book" and realized that it was an existing problem. I called both WD and ASUS for help but (as you might guess) they could not guarantee compatibility with any harware except their own. So, good lesson for me... avoid hooking together hardware from different vendors. The funniest thing is that the files hadn't actually disappear. I can see that the WD disk free space is at about the same level as it was before the files' disappearance. Those files are just not visible to Windows. So far I couldn't find the solution.

three TB!Low-cost (for 3TB)USB three. and 2.No smartware problems (on a mac) The USB combo cable is a bit odd, may well be challenging to replace Was a bit worried about the SmartWare from other MyBook testimonials. When I plugged it into my macbook I had no phantom SmartWare CD. The drive includes some application and manuals which are quickly removed with a fast format. It's at present attached to my Airport Intense and getting utilised as network storage.

- Massive amounts of space for a wonderful value- Sleek design and style- Automatic on/off with Pc- Powers down into a sleep mode when idle for lengthy periods of time (good power saver; clearly WD is working with some version of their new three.0TB Green drive)- USB 3.- Preformatted to NTFS (yay, I don't have to devote 3 days formatting!)- No SmartWare installation? (see other thoughts) Seems to get a little warmer than than my 1.5TB Components drive.Considering that the USB cable is a three.ǘ. combo cable, I could see this getting a con if you occur to shed it.Also, I can't test the USB three. speeds as my motherboard has no help, but that isn't the drive's fault (but it's there for the future). I jumped on this devoid of truly searching into something about it. I know about the troubles with the WD SmartWare computer software on the other Vital drives, and was sort of worried with this one. When I plugged it in, Win 7 started the driver installation, and then failed - but the drive functions fine (I checked, and the drivers were adequately installed). SmartWare never forced me to set up - never ever even bothered to ask. So, I removed it from the application from the drive, and haven't heard a peep from the computer software considering that. So, maybe WD finally produced the software fully optional this time? Don't know, but I'm not complaining!! If so, I say get this drive now just before they transform their minds!!Also, I was unable to thoroughly test the drive, as WD Lifeguard couldn't even see the drive, and HD Tune just reported 100% terrible blocks, which I know isn't correct as I've been transferring information to it with out concern. So, I will update if anything happens, but so far I've been happy!!

Bought it planning on using it as easy expansion (all my SATA spots were full). I used it for about a week via USB and it worked fine but I got annoyed with it sitting on my desk. So I pulled it apart and stuck the drive in the HTPC, and that went fine if anybody was wondering (no weird encryption or anything).I got it on sale so it was cheaper at the time than the regular WD green 3TB, so it all worked out. As for the drive, quiet, reliable, and slow, which are all to be expected.

USB3, 3TB, essentially has ventilation (though no fan). Failed inside a week of installing it. I was copying information from a 2TB drive to it (using rsync) and the (Linux ext3) filesystem started providing I/O errors. Certainly, it is producing I/O errors. Unfortunately I'd bought the drive 4 months ago and left it on a shelf til I required it, so returning it to Newegg only works for 60 days, and I have to deal with an RMA to Western Digital. One particular more cause to only purchase disk drives when you in fact need them. I utilized it with Linux. I have one more identical drive that's been operating for months beneath heavy looking for load with no problems at all.

Stays cool sufficient, excellent speed Computer won't recognize two at the identical time. Bought a pair of these to use as mirrored backups. Running Win 7 Household Premium 64-bit on an Asus M4A89GTD Pro board which has two usb three. ports for external devices. Installed first drive devoid of difficulties. When plugged in second drive, got error message that Win was not in a position to set up the driver. According to WD, drivers are on the HD, not downloadable. I can get either drive operating individually on either port, so not a port challenge and each drives operate alone. A thing odd is happening when I attempt to connect both at as soon as. I haven't attempted WD tech help however, but this bugginess shouldn't be there in the 1st spot. One more challenge is that Win stopped seeing the drive both occasions when rebooted with no shutting down fully. Both instances Win didn't see drive again until I shut down pc, powered off WD drive, restarted laptop or computer, then replugged in the drive. No information lost, but it's an odd instability I've not noticed in any other drive. This drive is what I'd call somewhat buggy and unstable, as new items frequently are. I can't be positive it's the drive's fault. Possibly there's a bug in the motherboard usb three. software program. I haven't yet been able to come across a mention of this dilemma in the user threads out there. I wouldn't advocate this drive to a buddy just yet. I'll keep utilizing one particular for backup and see what happens.
