Affordable and easy to use....when it's working I am on my 3rd unit. The very first a single challenging broke, the disks were fine, but the on board OS died so I had to spend 15 hours removing drives and fortunately located a blog that detailed how to get my data off by mounting as a secondary drive on my linux box. Absolute nightmare, almost lost 40GB of information. Following a extended time with consumer service (the European consumer service is much superior fyi) I had to pay to ship the broken a single back only to have them send me one more broken one in return, this re-manufactured unit had a broken fan and sounded like garbage. They refused to give me my funds back even believed mine broke immediately after three months and the replacement was broken as nicely. So I had to spend a lot more funds to ship the 2nd broken on back after much more time with client service. I now have a 3rd unit that hasn't died yet ƒ months) but the transfer prices are painfully slow and the HDD are actually loud. DON'T Acquire THIS if you worth you time and information!!! we have an older version of this model at my operate and it has been horrible as effectively. Painfully unreliable and several crashes. We are at the moment purchasing a new NAS to replace it. NEWEGG ROCKS! Manufacturer Response:We are quite sorry that you have experienced troubles with your Iomega device, in particular the difficulties you had with our replacements, and appreciate that you brought this to our focus. We adhere to incredibly strict re-manufacturing processes, and I am very shocked to understand that the replacement had a undesirable fan. Due to the fact our reman processes are as strict as our original manufacturing processes, you really should have received a unit that worked flawlessly. In addition, you must not have been required to spend to ship the unit back to us for a replacement - we will assessment our policies and be specific that all of our agents are aware of the correct procedures.

It's an aluminum case so the whole case acts as a heat sink. Will most likely swap them with 7200 rpm drives later on.

Appears good from outdoors Slow transfer speedsNoisy This item is a POC. I purchased one of these three-four months ago, came with a DOA drive - IOMega client assistance was horrible, but they lastly agreed to give me a replacement, and guess what? The replacement came with a DOA drive as well... Seriously, does IOMega have a QA department??? Fortunately I nevertheless had the very first unit, so with 2ǚ drives working I was in a position to assemble a functioning unit (and send IOMega 2 DOA drives inside the returned unit). Not too long ago the fan has failed and the unit overheats right after continuous disk usage for more than a couple of minutes.Lengthy story brief, don't get this NAS. It is a waste of dollars. Loads of user selections. I appreciate the idea of getting a NAS, however I was unable to implement it in my household. I got mine to operate for only about an hour. I'm positive I could have got it to operate for me if I had the time and energy to devote on the telephone with tech assistance. Could have been my router, could have been the StorCenter, I don't know. I've study it 100 instances on the overview pages, and it's accurate, New Egg Rocks! A painless return thanks to the awesome customer service at New Egg.

Price - These are seriously inexpensive compaired to competing merchandiseCharacteristics - Mac, Linux, Windows help, Plus SNMP, SFTP ect. The packaging tends to make these things appear great!Usability - Configuring every little thing is truly as uncomplicated as a click. Reliability - These devices are NOT dependable. They will fail, see beneath for my horror story.Poor Tech Assistance - Don't hold your breath on assistance, they will only suggest to delete all your information.Buggy Firmware - Firmware is buggy at greatest, frequent hangs that are only cured by yanking the energy cord. I help several of these devices in a corporate environment (~ 30 to be exact), and every time I get in touch with Iomega help their very first and only option is to reset the devices back to factory state. Upon un-boxing for configuration I had a 25% hard drive failure rate (DIRECTLY FROM THE FACTORY!). At 1 point I referred to as into the helpdesk and somebody on the other line told me that he was frustrated with dealing with these devices, and there were no actual solutions to the difficulties that they have only to wipe to factory state. When I asked him exactly where he proposes that I put this information he asked if I had any back-up devices... To this date the Iomega devices firmware has been a single of the worst I have observed. Things like the fan speed had been just never coded and show as 0Rpm. Also upon device failure from time to time the software program rebuilds the mirror often it just doesn't. To sum it all up, DON'T Buy THIS! The price is tempting but you WILL regret it. Manufacturer Response:We appreciate your candor – we have sold thousands of ix2-200 units, and we are not seeing the types of problems you are reporting. In fact, we have a low incident rate. Top quality and consumer satisfaction is our principal aim – we are constantly improving our products. We have addressed various of the minor concerns you mention with firmware updates – especially, the misreported temperature. These updates, like resetting the device, are not information destructive.

Huge storage space The transfer speeds on this device are terrible at ideal, and they are barely about megabit. I common about 12MB/s, rapid ethernet is 7.5MB/s. I was expecting speeds of at least 30-40 MB/s if they are marketing gigabit. Apparently, this is typical to this class of Iomega device. The rest of the testimonials on this website for other StorCenter devices also complain about slow speeds, as does Cnet.Conserve your cash, and just use a usb drive if you can, you will undoubtedly get more rapidly transfer speeds. Quick adequate to operate work as a temporary VM Very first 1 did not function, but was quickly replaced by IomegaIt does create a lot of heat This device can be configured as an iscsi device which allowed us to generate a Windows Server 2008R2 virtual server using VMware ESXi. Our physical servers had been 64 bit running 32 bit Server 2003. As you know, you cannot upgrade 32 bit to 64 bit Server 2008R2. So we built a virtual server, placed it into production, tested it, moved all users to it (about 50), reconfigured physical server to be a VMWare host, copied the virtual machine to the physical host. Worked wonderful. Device will now be employed to hold snapshots of VM, and file backups.

They are install a forget product, the only time I am reminded about them is a energy fail e mail.

Great box, seagate 1tb drives inside it is a application raid - and quite poor and slow by the way.had a failure on the raid - 1 - received a replacement HDD as the occasion log stated drive 1 bad but apparently it was computer software connected not a negative disk - following a month of trying to rebuilt the array it ultimately succeeded following 10 days of constant blinking and becoming inaccessible all the time - negative product don't relay on it. thank go d I had my old adaptec snap server (that this new iomega was purposed to replace) still untouched with all the data. if you use it greater have a fantastic and up to date backup of the data stored on this as even the iomega tech told me - constantly preserve backup someplace - so what is the objective of this stu$%# device in raid 1 if it damages for no cause the data ? Manufacturer Response:I’m extremely sorry to hear that the RAID array on your ix2 didn’t perform as expected. As you know, read/write overall performance on any RAID program will be slower than it would be on a simple volume. We have hundreds of customers who are employing RAID to effectively safeguard their information, and difficult drive failures are uncommon. In case of unexpected failure, we do fully warrant the disks and replace any failures within the warranty period. Depending on how much information you have stored on the device, rebuilding an array can take rather a bit of time, but I wouldn’t count on it to take ten days. There may well be an further undiagnosed concern – I suggest you contact Technical Assistance for assistance.

Effortless to setup. The GUI is effortless to use and easy to access. Incredibly dynamic in abilities. Click to switch between raid modes (may erase existing data) but comes RAID 1. Robust skills for security especially if you are utilizing on a Domain. Outstanding price for 2TB of storage and EMC software. none so far. The DNS used to access the NAS via the net is cost-free for the first year. DynDNS and some router config may possibly be a far better option for no cost DNS immediately after that. Solid unit, easy to access the drives, status monitor built in, I like the external storage attachment alternative by means of USB, picked up with XP, Vista, and MAC immediately. No compatibility troubles so far. 1.8 TB actual storage in JBOD. Setup further admin users or limited users to distinct files, i would very recommend. Also, if you register you get three year warranty as an alternative of 1. Good!

Straightforward installation. A lot of space. Really should function fine as a network drive to share documents, images, music, and so on. Far too slow to be helpful for automated back-ups. The ideal transfer rate I can get from my laptop (Intel dual core 2.31GHz with 4GB RAM) is 1.7MB/sec even although my wireless network is displaying about 30% utilization. Back-up software program estimated numerous days to execute a disk image of my laptop, even even though I can do it in a matter of 4-5 hours direct to a USB 2. drive. I tried operating the disk image to the USB drive, then working with the StorCenter's QuikTransfer function to transfer the image to the StorCenter employing a direct USB two. connection to the faceplate, hoping that it would be "quick" - certain it was more rapidly, but it nevertheless took over 14 hours to transfer the 159GB image files. And when I tried to basically move files from one particular folder to another, I could only get sustained transfer rates of about 940KB/sec. Transferring folders from my old network drive is going to be painfully slow (because it's even slower). Who cares if it's nevertheless below warranty? I'm completed with this piece prior to it loses each and every bit of my business's digital info.

This is a great product if you are tech savy and can purchase it for the right price (about $230).It is loaded with features and works very well... that is, if you can figure out how to configure it. It's not a simple plug and play. Well, it can be, but I wouldn't set it up that way.For the price, that includes the hard drives, this product is sweet.

Straightforward To Install, Nice Form Factor Bluetooth requites (ฟ) adapter I went back and forth reading evaluations on this. I'm glad I got it. The biggest complaints reading other critiques are that it's noisy and there are no instructions. When I got it I was expecting a smaller vacuum - it's nothing like that at all. Though I would not place it in a Television or bedroom, I have no concerns with "the noise" in my workplace. I barely notice it. As for directions - it's actually a no brainier; turn it on, run the CD. Working on XP, Win 7, Android telephone via Bluetooth adapter, and my Mac with Time Machine.I'm glad i got it!

Cheap Useful network throughput is terrible, particularly during writes. We often see "file manage is invalid" errors when copying large numbers of files.A typical ISO takes 20 minutes or a lot more to copy more than all-gig ethernetGranted, I put a lot of load on these small suckers, nonetheless, the thing must perform consistently. I would not advocate - a workstation PC with a couple 1 TB drives is a much better resolution! Or just purchase external storage. Seems like a very good NAS 1 drive came DOA. Named IOMEGA support to get it RMA'd who told me they had to escalate it to "teir 3" and they would call me back. I received my ticket number and 5 hours later no call. So I "live chat" and they can't locate my ticket number but immediately after re-troubleshooting the dead drive, stated they are happy to RMA it as lengthy as I give them a credit card number. He explained this was to make sure they get the return. (thanks for the benefit of the doubt). I was not willing to give them my CC number because they can't even keep a good ticket record (second ticket lost incident with them, prior ticket with retrospect support call that they could not find a record of). Following 2 Hours of haggling I brought up a second Chat window with newegg who issued me an RMA in much less than 15 minutes.IOMEGA - F-NEWEGG - A+

Was very effortless to set up for my windows 7 machine, the interface was fairly intuitive. If you use only Windows w/ one modem/router you need to be all set, effortless peasy. Has only limited support for Linux - no support for 64 bit distros, client software only runs on a few older distros. I chose this one because it had Linux listed - extremely disapointed. I also had trouble configuring remote access from the world-wide-web, but that is due to my router/modem set up. Because I suspect that the server software on the device is some flavor of Linux, I am surprised that Linux support is so poor. I had hoped to use this as a central location for my data to be accessible from both my windows and linux machines. Not to be. Manufacturer Response:Hello -Thank you for your feedback. We are working on adding support for 64-bit Linux distros to our StorCenter Manager application - watch for an update. You can use the device with out the Manager software program - just kind the IP address into a web browser, and you can administer the device directly from the web UI. You can also mount either SMB or CIFs shares through Linux for quick access.

Comment:
I purchased this NAS after a lot of research and decided on the Iomega because of cost, standard features, and the availability of information for putting custom programs on the NAS.Initial setup is quite painless. You enter a name for the NAS and create  an admin account. The web interface is clean and well designed, though it can be a little bit slow at times. The built in torrent client is not very good at all, but I found a guide for putting a different client on that makes it much more usable. Transfering files to the NAS took a long time initially, largely because I was transferring from my wireless laptop.Once you have information sitting where you want it it is very easy to access the information. One weakness with the media sharing is that it only allows you to configure one directory to share, so you are constrained to their storage model a little bit in that all shared media like Music, Videos, and Pictures that you want to be accessible on a PS3 or XBox 360 need to be in subfolders of a single root folder. As mentioned in the Weaknesses, the hard drives are quite loud. If you have this set up in a closet you would never notice it. The noise isn't so loud as to be distracting, just loud enough that you initially wonder what is going on with the NAS.Overall I highly recommend this product. The network transfer speeds are incredible for such a well priced NAS, and the features compare to a NAS of the same price that doesn't include any storage.
