Installed card and was picked up right away and had no issues. As stated above the default settings are a bit bass heavy for my tastes but the available options in the software made it very easy to tune it to my tastes. I'm a firm believer in a dedicated sound card because even though mb audio has improved it's still not up to the sound of a discrete card |

Cons: No bass boost option on analog outputs 5.1 other than a check box so no true bass level adjustment when using analog outputs.

Purchased for HTPC. Using 5.1 analog output. Software setting for bass redirection, crystalizer, and EQ all work wonderfully. The software also does a good job converting 2 channel audio such as music into 5.1. I have not used the digital output in any way shape or form so can't really comment. For the price, you can't beat it. |
Wow! Was this ever the surprise of my recent purchases from NCIX! I bought this card to replace another discrete card, so keep in mind I'm comparing this to another good sound card to begin with, not onboard sound!I bought this because I recently replaced my two VGA coolers to AC Twin Turbo's (very good VGA coolers BTW), which take up three slots. This meant that I had to remove my venerable PCI HT Omega Striker as the PCI slot was now blocked and only a PCI-e remained. After shopping around a bit, I decided on the Sound Blaster Z. In many ways, I felt like I was wasting $100 on a sound card since I already had a good one. Boy, did my thoughts on that vanish when I plugged my headset in for the first time with this card! My jaw literally dropped! They absolutely brought my Sennheiser HD 280 Pro's to life! The sound was instantly so much richer, and they now have so much more bass punch capability that simply wasn't there with the HT Omega card. I'm hearing so much more than before, and that's coming from a good discrete sound card! Wow!The card looks really nice as well, and there is a little red led glow off the card when the system is powered up. Some people may not like this, but I don't mind, and if the card is in a windowless case, it's not really going to make a difference anyway.If you buy this card, the only way I can see you being disappointed with it, is if you have a cheap headset or speakers. Otherwise, I think you will be very, very pleased with it!
