Like most Ubuntu users ''Alex'' is just ignorant and does not know how to install software under linux. In addition to the many features included in the windows software the linux package also provides a web based gui which allows you to monitor the status/charge/etc of the ups remotely. Honestly, this couldn't be a better deal!

APC BE550G 550VA UPSVery good product, the only issue is the control software only works on Windows. I am using it on my Ubuntu software and cannot take advantage of the graceful shutdown in case of a power outage.

APC BE550G 550VA UPSI built a Windows Home Server and wanted to put it on a UPS. There is a Windows Home Server add-in called Grid Junction that allows you to view UPS status in the server console. This UPS worked with that add-in, no problem.

APC BE550G 550VA UPSAPC uses a proprietary connector to connect USB. It appears similar to a standard RJ-45 ethernet connector, with the inclusion of 2 additional pins, and a tab on one side. This connector is used with the included USB cable, or the optional serial cable. The signaling is there if someone actually needs it. I own two other APC units that are approximately three to four years old, and they are still working great today.
