I have a buddy who's personal computer burnt out and he decided to get a new 1 but wanted the files from the Tough drive. I plugged it into my laptop running Windows Vista ࿀-bit) and it ran like a charm. Took about an hour to transfer all the music more than but only about 30 seconds to copy and paste. I have not applied the software nor do I plan to. I emailed the business about it and they said it will function with vista 32bit but not vista 64bit. I have not tried ubuntu but I see no reason to because that personal computer is slower than my vista pc.All in all I love it and I have had no issues.

Has worked fine on four various PC's running four diverse OS's with out any difficulties. I like the metal housing. Connectors fit good and tight. There is no on-off switch. The style of this adapter has necessary me to remove the stabilizing PC brackets in order to connect, this is a step I was able to avoid with other adapters. Overall with the discount, this was a solid purchase and is a decent unit. Some style tweaks or additions are required in my opinion. A carry case would be excellent. The lack of a on-off switch may well give less experienced users some connection issues.

I purchased this simply because I my harddrive was failing on a laptop. Last time this happened, it cost a ton of income to get a person to replace it. The software that came with this was incredibly helpful even with an old drive that was Incredibly corrupt.Immediately after I swapped out the laptop drive I went to my old three.five drives and found lots of music files I thought I had lost and recovered them. Kind of flimsy, not meant for a long term backup.

Initially factor I did was to mark the right way the plug goes into the device trigger if you plug it in upside down, you'll burn up your drive. I sent the barcode in for the rebate when I received it so now I'm out RMA. Unless you are purchasing this for the software program, I use Ghost anyway, acquire a much less expensive model.
