ASUS BW-12B1ST Blu-Ray Writer 12X BD-R 16X DVD+R SATA Black Retail
Cons:None so far
Pros:Easy to install and cheap Comment:
I bought this drive for 79.99 with 15$ mail in rebate. It was a pretty good deal. It is black so goes with most of the cases. Writing speed and reading speed are pretty good and you can play bluray movies without any problem. |

ASUS BW-12B1ST Blu-Ray Writer 12X BD-R 16X DVD+R SATA Black Retail
Cons:very disappointing software bundleonly creates data discsno Blu-ray playback softwareno video editing softwarepoor burn quality according to Nero disk speed quality scanwith verbatim discs and fails to burn with Optodisc completely
Pros:good priceplays Blu-ray moviesBurns Blu-ray discs Comment:
first things first I was completely disappointed with the software included with this supposedly retail package as you do not get any form of Blu-ray playback software and an old outdated version of cyber links power2go 7According to Nero speed disk the quality score:0 with an average of 62.31 LDC errors and a maximum of 408 LDC errorsand an average of 0.97 BIS errors and a maximum of 10I'm hoping this is a software glitch with Nero speed diskand hopefully Asus comes up with a firmware updateto improve Blu-ray burn quality.I don't know if I'm allowed to post linksin this review but here's a screenshotof the Nero quality scanhttp://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o180/zaperbaby/blu-rayscan.pnghttp://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o180/zaperbaby/blu-raydisc.pngThis drive also fails to burn Optodisc completely no matter what speed is selected.on the plus side the price was right with the mail-in rebatesure wish they'd get rid of mail-in rebates and just give you the best deal possiblethe drive reads and writes all current disk standardsand has potential with firmware upgrades for improved quality especially because this is a new technology.I've seen older DVD drives go from poor burners to excellent with a firmware upgrades and better writing strategies.hopefully Asus puts out some good firmware updates to make this drive work better.maybe I'm just nitpicking but I think this drive being a retail drive should come with a minimum of Blu-ray playback softwareand Blu-ray burning/editing software the software it comes with I would expect with an OEM drive not a retail drive. |

Cons:expensive
Pros:The best you can buy Comment:
definatly the best in its class with lightening fast burning speeds reading speeds and just speed in general haven't run into a problem with it yet and i don't plan on it. it was pretty expensive but i will not need to replace this for a long time in the long run this will save you time in the future and money |
No issues so far with this Blu-Ray burner just disappointed with the casing ... it's the only non black hardware in my Cosmos case but the front is matching the case very well.
