ASUS P5KPL-CM Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
Cons:Only one sata cable. Really two SATA cables would be nice since people use SATA HD and DVD/RWs.

Pros:Price and built in video
Comment:
The motherboard was fine for a low end office computer for general purpose work. Used a E5200 CPU. One thing I found out that with the OCZ Platinum XTC REV.2 PC2-6400 2GB 2X1GB DDR2-800 CL4-4-4-15 I could not find anyway of adjusting the memory timing. As well having the unit boot CD then HD caused a 30 sec boot up delay. Once I changed to boot off HD as first item the delay was only 6 secs from end of POST screen to XP Logo showing up. This board had everything i needed, good onboard video, audio and ethernet. The only negative point is that i think it came with a dead battery. each time the pc was shut down, it said during POST : setting have been F1 to continu or del to enter setup.i changed the battery and it looks good.

ASUS P5KPL-CM Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
Cons:No firewire

Pros:Supports 45nm quad-core out of the boxIntegrated hardware work with latest UbuntumATX, inexpensive!
Comment:
I wanted a cheap Linux box that I could try a new Intel Quad Q8200 chip on. I put in 4GB (2x2GB) of Corsair memory and installed the latest Ubuntu (version 8.10) and everything seems to have worked. The bios that shipped worked with the chip with no problem. The Intel graphics work well with Linux due to Intel's open source policy for drivers. The integrated NIC works (so far) with the latest Ubuntu. The only thing I haven't tested yet is the sound, but I'm not expecting any problems there. I don't overclock and have not explored those options. I didn't choose either the chip or the board for overclocking capabilities. I got the board on sale from NCIX and for the price I can't complain.
