ASUS WL-520GU Wireless Router 802.11B/G Up to 125MBPS 4PT 10/100 W/ USB Print Server
Cons:none
Pros:range, no dropped connections, bandwidth monitoring Comment:
This is hands down the best router I have ever used, and I have used many. I have Shaw Internet and couldnt get it to work with the stock firmware. But once I figured out how to flash to tomato I have been impressed ever since. (btw trick to flash tomato firmware is to downgrade stock firmware to an older stock firmware which will allow you to flash the router on web interface).I love the QoS settings which can control web usage per user, and the amazing bandwidth graphs in real time. Best fifty bucks I ever spent! |

ASUS WL-520GU Wireless Router 802.11B/G Up to 125MBPS 4PT 10/100 W/ USB Print Server
Cons:Did not play nice with my cheap 3COM "N" wireless router
Pros:Inexpensive, print server, NAS Comment:
Great router for the price. The router was flashed with the latest tomato firmware (Teddy bear mod for USB support). Now i am able to print (Brother DCP-7020) from anywhere in the house and as a bonus I added a USB hub which allowed me to add a 8GB USB stick for network storage. Now i have a printer and network storage on this router. The 520GU is setup as access point in a WDS with a Motorola 850G as the main router (DHCP server). Initially i tried to connect the 520GU as an access point with a 3COM "N" (WA-6202) as the main router but no matter what i tried the two would just not talk to each other. Don't know if the issue was that the 3com was a N/G/B type and the 520GU is a G/B. Over all very happy that i now have a network printer and (small) network storage. Just wish that it would have worked with my 3com N router as that had better coverage to the basement of my house than the Motorola. Asus is on top floor, Motorola on main and no accesspoint in Basement. |

ASUS WL-520GU Wireless Router 802.11B/G Up to 125MBPS 4PT 10/100 W/ USB Print Server
Cons:Crap power supply. Had at least 5 fail on me. Only 16.00 to replace at my local electronics store.
Pros:Crap stock firmware - will not reliably grab an ip from a docsis modem - sharkfin ok. Great with tomato or dd-wrt. I've bought a couple of dozen for wds, access points, vpn endpoints, etc. Comment:
Good product but I'm looking more at linksys now because of the power supply issues. I've also found the same problems with the WL500GP series. |

ASUS WL-520GU Wireless Router 802.11B/G Up to 125MBPS 4PT 10/100 W/ USB Print Server
Cons:Does not work with Shaw Cable Modem
Pros:Excellent Print Server but not as an internet router with cable modem Comment:
Could not get it to work as internet router with Shaw Cable Modem even after flashing it with latest firmware. I bought it due to its USB print server feature. Other USB print servers cost a lot more. However, I ended up using it along with my Dlink router, as internet server, by connecting it using a patch cable via LAN-LAN ports. |

Pros:Can flash 3rd party fireware.good price. Comment:
I saw a lot of people can't surf internet when they use asus fireware. However, I flash it to tomato after I got it. No problem at all. Pretty good wireless signal. If there is 32mb ram on it. It would be a perfect product. |

ASUS WL-520GU Wireless Router 802.11B/G Up to 125MBPS 4PT 10/100 W/ USB Print Server
Cons:none
Pros:asus brandpowerfirmware Comment:
I bought this router for my lans and to extend my wireless home'S network. Its nice because it has a good power. I have 5 green bars in the house. The main reason why I wanted this router is for the usb print server it has. Now I can print documents everywhere in the house wireless or wire. It has a nice firmware inside ( software) and you can select the power % attributed to each services you want to use ( p2p, communication, games, music ) etc etc. It is a very complete router I would recommend over LINK SYS one for the same price. |

ASUS WL-520GU Wireless Router 802.11B/G Up to 125MBPS 4PT 10/100 W/ USB Print Server
Cons:None that I've found
Pros:-Open source firmware-USB 2.0-Programmable button Comment:
This is my new favourite router. I have never used a router that's based on Linux before and let me tell you: I highly recommend it. Now, I have my own personal Linux-based server running 24/7 that only uses a few watts of power. The first thing I did when I got the router was install Tomato firmware with USB support. I chose Tomato because of its QoS reputation, and because I'd heard from many people that USB 2.0 on DD-WRT did not work well. USB works a treat and I now own a NAS device. The original reason I purchased this device was to run Asterisk. So the next step was to install it, and with Optware, it took exactly three commands to do. I have so far had five calls in progress with this PBX (without transcoding) and the unit didn't even break a sweat. Amazing!I now own an Asterisk PBX, a NAS device, a QoS-enabled router, and anything else I can think to make out of a Linux server. For $37, that ain't bad. |

ASUS WL-520GU Wireless Router 802.11B/G Up to 125MBPS 4PT 10/100 W/ USB Print Server
Cons:Asus firmware = crapNot for the non-tech savvy.
Pros:CheapLooks greatUSB portWorks with DD-WRT or Tomato Comment:
I was both very disappointed and very pleased with this product. On the plus side, it is one of the most feature-rich routers under $100, and when on sale, it is only half that price. Unfortunately, for anyone wanting to use this as a print server or someone less technically inclined, this would be a terrible router. It should be expected of any product that it work out of the box, as-is. In this regard, it fails completely and I cannot recommend this product for general users. After struggling with the stock firmware on this product for 3 days, I finally gave up and switched over to Tomato. It has worked flawlessly since, but I had to give up the scan/fax features of my printer when plugged into the router's USB port. The stock firmware was unable to stably connect to the internet and lacks the extensive features of 3rd party firmwares. Its only advantage is the ability to fully use multi-function printers because it enables some sort of USB port forwarding to trick your computer into thinking its directly connected to the printer. When using Tomato (the modded version by Teddy Bear), printers can only print. |

ASUS WL-520GU Wireless Router 802.11B/G Up to 125MBPS 4PT 10/100 W/ USB Print Server
Cons:USB 2.0 driver does not work in DD-Wrt
Pros:The Price is right Comment:
WARNING: This makes an excellent print server, but a mediocre file server. (I have not used the stock firmware at all.) Like many of the reviewers, I installed DD-WRT on this router, however I could *not* get USB 2.0 to work, only USB 1.1 (There's a slim chance openwrt kamikaze would work on this router. If you do get USB 2.0 working, please write your own review!)If you want a print server, the WL-520GU will work well. If you want a file/samba/ftp/other server, try to find an ASUS WL-500G or WL-500G Premium. It is twice the price, almost twice the size, but it has twice the RAM, twice the ROM, and a working USB 2.0 driver (under openwrt kamikaze for brcm-2.4). I returned my WL-520GU and purchased a WL-500G Premium V2, and I'm extremely happy with my decision. |

I now just plug the 360 and ps3 through it's lan ports and it works perfectly and has not crashed or lost connection in the last month of use. |

Cons:Nothing yet.
Pros:Works with 3rd party firmwareHas not self disconnect clients like my old D-Link Comment:
Bought this to replace my aging 80211.B router that keeps disconnecting all the connected clients randomly. I did not try to use the stock firmware for long. I just make sure it was working with the stock firmware. Read up on all the instuctions on how to flash to 3rd part firmware. Now running on DD-WRT.I also loke the monitor function which keeps track of the traffic in and out of the router.I am not using the USB print function.Oh yeah, got the rebate too (took a while). ASUS WL-520GU Wireless Router 802.11B/G Up to 125MBPS 4PT 10/100 W/ USB Print Server
Cons:One antenna only
Pros:Alternate firmware optionsUSB print server (on stock firmware at least)Appealing lookRemovable antenna Comment:
My second router running the Tomato firmware. Works great, stable. I like the option of replacing the antenna for folks who need better coverage, although I've never had the need. If you need 2 antennae then go for the WRT54GL, but the ASUS works fine for me, and less money. My one concern is ASUS warranty support. I can't speak for their router warranty department, but getting RMA approval for their motherboards is a real hit and miss operation. Much worse than it used to be. I hope I never have to go that route with this router, because frankly it you'd be better off just replacing it. |

Cons:The product firmware is unusable.
Pros:The product has no strengths. Comment:
The firmware for this product is complete garbage. In the latest release (3.0.0.2) it would not retrieve a dynamic address from my isp. I attempted to set information statically when it informed me that my subnet mask value of 255.255.254.0 is not valid. The previous release of the firmware (2.0.0.8) forced me to set the dns servers manually for each dhcp client. |

This is a very good router for the money, I got if for $25 after rebate. The stock firmware is weak, it froze up after a couple of days. I put dd-wrt on it and has been stable. With this firmware the USB print server can also support HDD storage. |

Cons:Stock firmware
Pros:Solid, reliableDD-WRT capableLow price Comment:
Bought this for $23 after taxes and rebate, absolutely great price for a great router. The ASUS firmware seemed to be a very simple to use but on the other hand, lacking in features. Honestly though, I didn't even bother with it because I had planned to flash it with DD-WRT all along, which was a very simple process, and now it's running awesome. Very stable (haven't had to reset router yet and hopefully never), amazing wireless range, and a great DD-WRT capable router for the price. Plus it looks nice too. |

Flashed to Tomato and working great since then. Would recommend this to everyone I know since Tomato doesnt support N-speeds as of now. USB is great add-on as well.
