purchased five of these to go into a fundamental situation (N82E16811147125). Now i have access to my hdd in raid five without having the need of opening up my case. The fans do a decent job and as other people have mention, these are Effectively constructed. I very advise installing the screws on both sides of the five.25 rails. no egg's off, but given that the fans are so tiny, I would have rather observed 2 fans, (to the left most portion and appropriate most portion of the drive). Incase you can't tell, your three.5 hdd is encased in an enclosure that slides in and out of the bay, the enclosure has a locking device (single phillips screw). For me this is a pain because I dont want to have to reach for a screw driver to take out my hdd. Now I opened these up like a banshee so I dont know if I threw away the guidelines...i plugged anything in (daisy chaining the hdd led cable) , turned on the system and absolutely nothing occurred. Following jumping back on newegg, I learned that the drives have to be in the locked position. Once that was completed, I noticed that the fan's were not spinning, so I also took note that men and women pointed out that they had to plug each device by way of molex, after that was completed, anything just worked. As always, really feel free to gmail my nickname with inquiries, comments or if you want to see pictures of this in actionIf you want the hot swap to operate, your Motherboard has to help AHCI for your sata controllers. .

I have bought approx 15 of these cages. All have worked beautifully.- All metal construction- Locking SATA cable- Uncomplicated way to let securing data at the end of the day (on or off website). - Front fan is noisy. Noisier than two other situation fans combined. This is likely simply because the fan is right in my face. Nonetheless I would rather have the noise and a cool drive. Thinking about the drive is enclosed in a aluminum shell, the airflow made by this fan in necessary. Time to obtain some additional.

I have five of these mobile racks in place, I've employed a number of others in the past and none of them come close to the top quality of these. I wish you could obtain the trays separately.

Simple install, and incredibly nicely constructed in particular for ษ. I bought two of them for 1TB Seagate drives and they worked flawlessly.four-Pin Connectors are a good plusFans are keeping the HDD's rather cool in the case. Fans are a small noisy, but not actually that poor. Fits comfortably in my Lian-Li Pc-7B case

I have been searching for some way to swap drives around with out having to open the computer. With this drive enclosure I can run XP right now, switch to Vista or Ubuntu when it suits me. Extremely content with this, I have two installed and will stick a thrid in as soon as I can order it and get it in. 1 of the enclosures was a bit sticky when inserting the drive, gently wiggling with light pressure and it inserted and locked in. An great piece of equipment.

This bay has anything I necessary. It could hotswap the drive, It was simple to install, has power and hdd activity light. I use it mainly for sticking in a 500gig HDD to do weekly backups of my Server03 box...then as soon as the backup is completed, I can get rid of the drive and store it in my lockbox for safe keeping. A wonderful tool if you don't want to dish out for a tape drive. The construction is also really solid...heavier than I thought it would be. As others have said, constant removal of the drive could result in the SATA connector to put on out, as teh bay makes use of the drives onboard sata connector when sliding the drive in and out...no major deal although unless you're removing it 10 instances a day. This, combined with a 500gig hdd and a custom mirror-backup script is a best resolution for backups...particularly if you don't have the coin to buy a Tape Drive!

I like this case. I put it in a laptop or computer I built for a company. They can do all their operate on the personal computer and at the finish of the business day they take out the drive and place it in a fire proof secure. With SATA 3.0gb there was no lag for the OS. The darive is built in a way that it will only work if it's locked in spot. It prevents any user error. Manage to pull the drive feels a tiny low cost but I haven't had any problems out of it and is sturdy sufficient for what it's employed for. Fans in the case are quiet so far and manage to maintain the drive cool.

These are brilliant. For the price I can't think the ease of use they provide. The casing is smooth and removal/insertion of drives is a snap. Also has a nice feature of requiring the lock to be in location prior to activating them when booting. The cooling operates good too. It took me forever to comprehend that they wouldn't turn on only simply because they weren't locked. This wasn't a major deal though. Also, the LED cable and added molex are useless unless you ran out of SATA connectors on your PSU, sort of confusing but they function completely devoid of either attached as extended as the SATA power and information cable are connected. I got five of these currently, and my subsequent acquire will contain 3 far more for my three 750's in a RAID 5. Correct now they hold five 250's in RAID five perfectly. The overall casing and fans is really surprisingly quiet, very nicely designed. Looks cool on my Thermaltake Armor series case too.

Worked right out of the box, no drivers required. Also fit well with my screwless brackets. Max read/write speed of about 14-18MB/s. It's supposed to help 10-20 instances that speed. Sent in for RMA waiting on replacement.

Solid and cool aluminum housing. Quiet front fan. Good quality is just as great as higher-priced brands. Sata cables, with metal latch, will not lock onto the device (I purchased two), but they are nonetheless snug, barring any vibrations. This is a tiny bothersome. This is why I rated it "Good". I purchased two for a RAID 1 setup. Do not let this unfamiliar brand name scare you away. This is a good product.

Comment:
Nicely-built all metal construction, brief length makes fitting into drive bay uncomplicated. two of these slid correct into the 5.25" bays in my Antec 180B case with out obstructing the motherboard. Fan only runs when drive is turned on witn key. Front mounted fan is loud - perhaps not as negative as some mobile racks but much louder than the four fans in the Antec case and incredibly audible - thankfully it only runs when on . As noted by other reviewers, it utilizes the SATA connectors on your expensive tough drive to mate with the rack so look elsewhere if you program to mount/unmount this factor often. Drive LED wires/switch and documentation is confusing. Much better built that I expected from the price tag or the packaging.

Compared to the myriad of mobile racks out there, this 1 seems to beat them all -- well, most of them. The bay frame is built of aluminum and merely by examining it in your hands, it's extremely durable and of high-excellent. Surely preferred over the plasticky and flimsy ones out there. None actually. No separate trays as others have pointed out. However simply because of the fantastic develop and quality, I don't thoughts chucking the added cash just to get the tray itself. I use this primarily for hotswapping tough drives in XP. The only way to acheive hotswapping in that OS is to disable the turnkey mechanism by unscrewing the screw on the bottom of the lock, like one ahead of me had pointed out. That way, the entire bay device is kept powered on, and you can simply hotswap drives. Otherwise, you'd get BSODs (stop error) and would have to reboot following swapping drives.

Solid as a rock. All metal. Does precisely what it's supposed to do which is receiving to be a rarity. The little 40mm fan on the front of mine was noisy. Too small to be of any real use anyway so I just took it out.Note that the value has truly jumped due to the fact I purchased mine.Didn't come with a Raptor installed ;>) I've owned many diverse trays more than the years and found that all of the less costly ones are junk. This tray is produced out of all metal and frankly it blows any others away. Difficult drives are now so affordable that I'm acquiring two of these for just about every technique in my home and making use of Acronis for disk imaging.

Worked out of the box with no trouble. These units are created out of aluminum, and are heavy. When you pull the drives out, they have a door that shuts to help preserve out the dust. They look good and they feel like they are great excellent. They are heavy and will add a lot of weight to your computer.... Not as although that is a bad thing... No issues with DOA. I have mine setup together working with Raid .

Developing a new Winxp pro machine with hot swap backups. The only problem I had was I didn't turn the crucial to the lock position. Seems apparent now! My configuration that works:Gigabyte MB EP45-UD3RBios settings:Sata Raid/AHCI - disabledSata Port -three Native ModeOnboard Sata/IDE Ctrl Mode (Gigabyte Sata2 Chip)- AHCIThe Sata case is plugged into the GSATA2_Have to turn the lock crucial for it to energy up. Can disable it in the safely eliminate hardware to eliminate. None so far. Would have helped if the directions mentioned the lock important ought to be turned to energy up. I'm betting a lot of the DOAs are not truly dead.

As other reviewers have noted, this drive caddy has Excellent construct top quality. Quite sturdy aluminum construction make for a no-worries installation. I honestly don't know how BYTECC is managing to move these at such a low cost, given the solid construction. Crucial mechanism feels really solid, not loose like so several other tiny barrel-important mechanisms do. I bought this as nicely as a Western Digital Caviar Green 640GB drive to replace an aging WD USB external backup drive. Fundamentally, the only cause that I opted for the caddy vs. a fixed internal drive is that I figure if the residence is burning down, I can speedily get rid of the drive and save my information - not an choice with a fixed internal - without getting to deal with slower USB transfer rates. Fan is loud. On the other hand - if you are working with this as a backup remedy like I am, the drive is spending 90% of its time spun down. I also chose the WD Green series because they run really cool. If you have good case ventilation, you will get sufficient airflow through the front grill to preserve items cool. I disconnected my fan following about an hour - extremely uncomplicated, two pin plug accessible from the front panel - no disassembly needed. No "top lid" to the bay indicates that if you have additional PS wires bundled into your "spare" 5.25 bays, you will have problems inserting the caddy. Easy resolution - install the caddy below a DVD drive to stop any accidental incursion into the boy. If I was operating 3 of these with WD Blacks or Velociraptors in a RAID 5 (continuous use) like a lot of men and women on here are performing, I would NOT disconnect the fan, and would possibly upgrade the fan to a quieter model. But in a light-usage circumstance like mine, no genuine cause to have an added fan cranking away.

Works as intended. The four pin power connectors are good so you don't want SATA power connectors if you don't have them. None Recall that if you don't lock the drives in location, they get no power. That will save you about 1ǘ hour of hair pulling.

Makes it straightforward to fit 3.5" disk in a five.25" external bay.Quite good for RAID. None so far. I didn't comprehend you have to lock the drive bay, or the disks wont power up. Believed all the units I bought had been bad.. So if you have this issue, lock the drive in, and they will power up just fine.
