Appears to just work - worked on XP, Vista, and Windows 7 builds.Decent create high quality, looks excellent, packaged effectively, lots of attributes.Seems uncomplicated to use - will post back any problems found, but so far so very good. Plugging into a Windows 7 laptop it right away recognized the device, added drivers, and I got a prompt to import - good! I will (probably) be utilizing Pinnacle for import / editing my projects but the ADVC110 worked perfect with even Windows Movie Maker with default configuration. (all I did was set the dip switch to analog given that my major jump point will be to convert a LOT of old analog VHS tapes)Note: I found an old 9vdc 900mA power provide and simply spliced on the correct connector (off of an additional power supply). Just get polarity proper, and you will be fine. (positiv tip / neg sleeve)Reading other Really valuable posts gave me confidence to do this. If I find a 15vdc provide I will probably use that instead. See FW notes beneath - you most likely WILL require a power supply at some point fourǛ stars only simply because no power provide is included for a type of $$$ unit...For the $$$ this unit need to ship with a silly power provide! Do NOT obtain the rip-off ุ.00 ps either... construct your own like I did. A 12vdc 1A or so seems to work perfectly. This is the only cause I gave fourǛ stars... come on... chunk in the #&*@*! power supply - jeesh.Who the hell developed the dip-switch and switch setting silk screening LMBO... you need best lighting and microscope to read / check the settings!The manual could use a re-write in some locations, but it's not the worst I've had to appear at. I nonetheless do not fairly recognize wth the red "status" led is applied for... I'd like to hear (if desired) audio as I am importing but this could be a setting I am not making use of correctly in the sw I have tried so far. The audio is there immediately after capture - but not through capture... FWIW - There are 3 Firewire connectors that I am conscious ofɅ) The std FW 400 connector is a 6 pin. four pins applied for data, and other two give power. This 1 uses 3 pins for power and the other six present information channels for external devices. Don't know considerably about this sort.

There is absolutely nothing good about this, the computer software supplied has trouble picking up a powerful signal, or any signal at all, in most instances, and doesn't in fact function an intuitive UI. The customer service is blantant garbage. When I called to ask them a sales question, they mentioned, yeah, certain, almost everything functions fine and you ought to only be receiving Ӯms of lag in your stream, nothing you would notice if you had been to play games on your computer system. Simple to set up. Easy instructions. PAL and NTSC. Powered by FireWire. Could not manage smooth image conversion from 8mm VHS analog to digital. Can drive you crazy. Took me 30 mins get up and running soon after playing with the switches under the box to configure for my purposes and test.Recorded pictures to pc from analog video camera. two.five GHz processor and 1GB memory Pc was not challenged by the processing needs. I shut down any distraction for the Pc, network connection, virus scanner etc.Images on the hole had been ok, not liking too a lot movement, but some sections of video had been interrupted by freezing, jerking and shuddering. Could not function out what types of images brought on the difficulties ... somtimes picture of creating, one other windy forrest, yet another the cats playing in the living room.The cat images were the last straw; not that I have a big thing about cats, but the image movement was so poor. Could be my cats can achieve greater feats than I am aware, but one shot had them jerk from the floor, seem with out any movement on the table eight feet away and then be in box that some how suddenly appeared in the space.Emailed assistance. Out of the Box and into the fire in my editing room...I am using it with Mac and Firewire connection to capture VHS and 8mm on Final Cut. Simple. Plug and play...even with relatively old and fluttery tapes, the canopus practically seemed to increase the signal. Not a single frame has been dropped thus far and I have really been putting it by way of the paces. None so far. I am genuinely pleased with it. I assume you would have a various expertise with PC or non-firewire connection as I noticed other PC users complaining about a power supply concern. With the Mac and the FW connection, it requirements no additional power. Straightforward to use, works much better than advertised, flawless video capturing, no troubles. Expense is high, but you get what you pay for. Slightly cumbersome, due to the location of the ports. Worth just about every penny. Employing it to archive recorded shows off a DirecTV DVR.

UNBELIEVABLE video excellent. Audio stayed perfectly synchronized all the way by way of a two-hour capture. Zero frames dropped, great color matching, looks FAR much better than playing back on equipment via a Tv set. If you want to transfer your VHS, Hi-8, any analog source, appear no further. Don't waste you time on more affordable goods. The ADVC110 needs no drivers. Just plug it in and IT WORKS!!! None. Those complaining about the lack of included software program aren't the targeted audience for this device. Just purchase it already...you won't be disappointed.

This item works as advertised,set the dip switches, plug it in,pop a movie into the vcr and it goes to work.It is genuinely that easy! None so far no power supply but I didnt need it, worked fine on my firewire hookup. I had an ADS Instant DVD two. prior to this. Soon after all kinds of setup issues it worked fine but not till I worked all the difficulties out. Do your self a favor buy this unit and begin creating movies in five minutes.I utilised Pinnacle Studio 8 to capture and Ulead Movie Factory to edit and burn. NO Difficulties!!

I recently bought this for the new technique I built. I am a internet designer and have run into issues in the past when consumers wanted to add some video to the website that was in VHS format. (the editing program I use) without needing to configure my software program 1) Locks up the whole method or may possibly not enable signal capture when an additional firewire port is occupied2) I had to use an further energy source and set the digital/analog switch prior to plugging in the firewire cable, otherwise it indicates both signals and locks upthree) Not as user friendly as I hoped...demands a certain (though not indicated) sequence of powering up and plugging in.4) The user's manual states that suifficient power is drawn from the firewire connection, but when I tried that, the unit defaulted to digital signal in, rather than the analog signal in that I needed. I had to purchase a separate power adapter to enable the setting of the analog in prior to plugging into the firewire port5) The lock-up of this unit when one more device is plugged into a firewire port makes it so that I can not capture the signal on my external harddrive. Instead I have to capture the signal to the internal challenging drive and then, later transfer it to my external drive...a pain I think that this unit does an admirable job of video capture and conversion, but there are various bugs that have to have to be worked out in order for this unit to be considered genuinely "User-friendly."Overall I'd give it five stars for capabilities, but it loses two stars for all the hassles and headaches I had to function by means of to get this unit to function appropriately with my technique (Dell XPS 400 wǘGB RAM, 300 GB firewire connected external tough drive, and Premier Elements two. video editing program).The reason I was ultimately able to get this unit to work with my method was since I have useful IT folks where I function. Device works great. I've been doing video capture on PC for years and I went to a Macbook Pro using this convertor and it all worked fantastic. Just a little time in set-up and I'm converting over hours of tapes. None Capture seems less complicated in iMovie, but I've been working with Final Cut Express for more functionality. Final Cut express is picky about some of the video time info included in the original tape, and that info can be shaky depending on your recorder and if you take the tape out and confuse the timer. It just needs much more oversight when you capturing. Its not basically set it and forget it. But just sharing details the ADVC works fantastic and Newegg is the greatest.

You can't get a lot far better than this for SD video capture. Seems a bit high-priced compared to other similar merchandise. Don't use energy over firewire. It is worth it to get the energy adapter. Immediately after a few months of powering mine with firewire, it quit working. I sent it to Canopus. They repaired it no cost of charge, and told me it was damaged probably from a spike in the firewire energy source. They said I necessary to use a energy adapter since they wouldn't repair the exact same concern once again for free. I now use the energy adapter and generally the 4 pin firewire port, to guarantee no energy is coming in over the firewire.

Easy to setup up converter device, Worked fine even with windows movie maker. Quickly and reliable. high excellent codecs. Very satisfied.I primarily use for convert vhs tapes to digital. Pricey, it was, when I bought it 6 months ago. Very good support under linux.

Worked terrific on Windows XP. Doesn't function on Win 7 64-bit. Even when setting 1394 drivers to legacy. Wish I could get my 赼 back. Oh well. Live and learn.

The digital video converter worked as advertised. It is essentially just plug and play. I utilized it to convert property movie VCR tapes to DVD's using Pinnacle studio 12. I have a gaming personal computer that operates with vista 64 so I have all new stuff. There were no cons.

Nice compact little box, uncomplicated to set up, no external energy required. No difficulties at all with reasonably new analog sources. If you have older VHS tapes - numerous of mine are 15-18 years old, you may well experience frequent audio and video dropouts for the duration of conversion - although WinDV reports no dropped frames. I assumed this was the PC's fault, even though it has a lot of horsepower for the job. Spent a lot of time attempting to diagnose this, and it appears that a converter with TBC (time base correction) is probably necessary for older tapes.A basic troubleshooting section in the manual would have been extremely helpful - this is a consumer product after all.Also - had some trouble with an older Fire Wire card - the analog *and* digital indicators would generally be lit on the ADVC110, and windows would not often recognize the device. Switched to the onboard FireWire (Abit IP-35 Pro) and these issues disappeared. I'm going to try the ADVC300 (unfortunately it is about twice the cost of the ADVC110) since this does do LTBC. I'll post once more as soon as I uncover out if this is the answer.

Converter works fantastic so far. Would give it five stars if not for the hassle of acquiring a power supply ought to you want 1. No AC energy adapter included. Power from firewire is fine when working with my desktop (e.g. dv cam dubbing), but when I needed to connect the ADVC110 away from desktop, I notice my laptop has only four-pin firewire. I was shocked when I realized Canopus supplied no #@$% energy supply! Okay, this is my error and not Canopus getting low cost I'm sure. Nonetheless, this would be no difficulty *IF* Canopus a) created it straightforward to purchase the pwr supply (couldn't uncover one at Newegg or in metro-DC location), and b) didn't insist you use ONLY Canopus brand (ึ+) pwr supply! A pwr supply isn't rocket science and ึ should be about ั inventory expense + profit and ŭ hardware. Somebody here suggested the Sony PSP 5v pwr supply at e.g. Walmart (thx)--not readily available at mine, although. Finally got lucky at nearby Target: they had both Sony PSP (~ฮ) adapter and a generic substitute "AC Adapter for PSP" from "Psyclone Essentials" ;-) (only ฟ). Each of these were 5v, 2A, center-positive and the generic is working fine for me. Don't fully grasp why Newegg doesn't carry the pwr. supply. They seem to sell lots of these.The ADVC110 is really effortless to use and pretty idiot-proof. But often among conversion/dubbing runs, it switches from Analog-in to Digital-in with out my performing something--perhaps when it loses an incoming signal temporarily? I (or the device?) have caught this so far and have reset it correctly so I haven't lost any sessions I think. Most likely some behavior I just don't really comprehend yet. Just maintain an eye on it.
