Coolmax CUG-950B 950-Watt Power Supply - ATX, SATA-Ready, PCI-E Ready, Modular
Comment:
Worked for about 6 months. Was fairly. Died after six months of use. I got a hault on boot so I reset the personal computer. Then I got the fans to spin and then nothing, I reset it once again. Got nothing. I thought it was my motherboard giving a short, but soon after taking the PSU out and testing it nothing. No spin, no power absolutely nothing. Very disappointed. If you want a PSU to last longer than six months, opt for something distinct.

Quiet, Fan doesnt give me difficulty like alot of other customers low heat does the job with no running quad sli intense gaming situations shut the system off completely i dont know if this is a GPU overheat dilemma mainly because i have such a small case or its lack of power would shut down with 4X and 2X anti alaising, vertical sync off and 16X antisrophic filtering will run stable AA off and AF 8X pretty superior numbers on paper for the value just dont know if the durability is there

Haven't had any troubles for 1y 3m and does the job. Is nonetheless working. Don't OCCT overclocked i7 with two Crossfired 4890s you will notice a smell like something receiving ready to fry but it hasn't died yet. Haven't gone more than 5 minutes to see what would happen if left for an hour. Could be a fan problem given that I never hear it fan speed up. Ultimately I will acquire a new PS to have a greater piece of mind, but for now it functions fine with out pegging everything at 100% working with OCCT. Never noticed any difficulties gaming but at least I had every thing together to test for problems just right after the construct.

Newegg will RMA my unit. Last coolmax product Ill ever buy. However when I was constructing my new computer system I ought to have gone with a additional reputable brand, even so it was a great deal @ the time (got this thing for 100 bucks) hopefully the subsequent one wont burn out and I just got a poor egg. These issues occur I realize, even so Ive in no way owned a PSU thats burned out on me, specifically in less than half a year. Inexpensive, High power, Modular Bought Jan 2009. This PSU was used in an open chassis build and it was okay. It would whistle annoyingly and the fan by no means got too loud, just loud enough to want the game volume to be 3ǚ of the way up. The program is nothing big, just 1 sapphire HD4850, two 500GB Barracudas, 2 12cm fans, and AMD 3.2Ghz Dual core on M3A79-T Deluxe. All bought from Newegg. The issue became apparent when I put the thing in a case. As soon as the video card drivers had been installed and the pc restarted, the PSU went by means of the roof like a blowdryer and the PSU's internal plastic air baffle that diverts the airflow started flapping like a reed valve creating a horrible vibration noise. I'm talking embarrasingly loud; walk outside and stand by the closed window and still hear it loud. I cannot use this PSU, very disappointed. I have a cotton swab stick wedged against the baffle for now. Just reinstalled it just before posting this and now the fan bearing is chattering like a worn out air conditioner. Owned for 8 months and the fan is worn out. I barely even utilized this PC. Turned it on for gaming two-five times a month and turned it off right away afterwards. Fan is half covered by a baffle, creating the flow inefficient, overworking the fan.YOUTUBE VIDEO: just search for "CUG-950B" it ought to be up soon my user name is supra60

Relatively low-cost immediately after rebates/instant savings. Seemed quiet but never ever had it on for quite long. Nice style, plenty of connections. Wouldn't power my GeForce GTX260. Motherboard would fail POST and give a video adapter beep error. Tested the connections and it seemed like it had appropriate voltage/amp on the PCI-E lines, but one thing was still off and I wasn't about to open the factor up to test further. GFX card and pc setup in general worked with 630w PSU I was preparing to replace. RMA'ed, I'll re-evaluation when the replacement comes in. If it also fails, I'll be fairly upset with the ฝx2 I'll have to pay for two returns, but I reserve judgement.

Works, delivers energy. Terrible clanking sound right after a couple of days of ownership. Rather than sending it back, I turned my case on its side and the clanking stopped. All of the documentation, on the box, in the user manual, was in engrish. Also, I wish I could say whether or not this would happen with all energy supplies, but I suspect that the efficiency on this thing is far lower than advertised. Going from a 400W to a 950W energy supply, my electric bill went up ๖-贄 a month, depending on how much I maintain the computer system on. An expert with power supplies may be able to let you guys know if that's a reasonable increase in electricity cost when upgrading that much, but I would nonetheless be cautious. I purchased it so that I wouldn't have to upgrade energy supplies for a though -- big mistake. It's cost me considerably much more than buying a mid-range, extremely-efficient and well-regarded model. Manufacturer Response:Hello,Can you send me your full personal computer specs? When it works, it is great. Short life, MTF is not long adequate for the investment, overheats simply I bought this PS and had to replace it much less than 30 days later. I figured that it was a defective unit and exchanged it under my warranty. It may possibly have been, but now, 16 months later, it has died again.

Quiet, gives power... Modular cables very good. Coolmax is extremely willing to honor Warranty. If you e-mail them at tech@coolmaxusa.com Failed at 16 months. Warranty honored swiftly right after I discovered the correct e-mail address to send a RMA request to. Replacement unit looked the same, included PSU manual showed the identical layout. However Coolmax has redesigned the PSU, reassigning that PCI-e port to S-SATA. The wiring changed too. Not expecting the same model number unit to be redesigned as a replacement unit, and verifying it with the included printed manual, I did not rewire the personal computer. I Installed the new PSU, powered up, smoke, burnt wiring. PSU dead. Contacted Coolmax. Wrong wiring. RMA'ed once more, Coolmax was good enough to replace it once more and specify to rewire the box. New PSU arrived timely once again, included exact same wrong manual, Installed, rewired, utilizing sticker on side of PSU as guide. PSU powers up, personal computer wont boot. Suspect vid card was fried in final go round. Coolmax is incredibly willing to RMA poor units, nevertheless not very superior at informing users of style modifications. Modular cabling is good, if you have the proper manual to go with it.

950 watts. modular. modest for such a beastly power supply.3.three rail stays close.theoretically runs SLIWarranty (think i'm gonna need to have it). I thought i got a superior deal, at initial. this thing does not last.voltage: I've observed 13+v on the 12v rail, both at idle and under load. my five is typically in between five.five and 6.fan: as is common, after six months it sounds like the fan is about to go. constant rubbing and an occasional click or grind. I don't even leave it on when i'm not gaming. Customer service: no phone quantity and nobody answers emails. I had one back asking for my specs, but i think that guy got fired for trying to assist. Bought this to run two gtx260s and an overclocked quad. I'm going to have to acquire one more PS just before i acquire a different video card. Manufacturer Response:Hello,Can you provide us your support ticket? Also, we can not control overclocked CPU's power drawing from the power supply. It will draw much more power, but your power supply need to nonetheless be able to manage your overclocked method. The only cons is that it will be hot and your fan is forced to be at high speed all the time which leaves your fan vulnerable to damages.Should you need to have to RMA this unit, please get in touch with tech@coolmaxusa.comRegards,Coolmax Support

dunno. it blew up on 1st energy up. shot fire out of the back vent two-4 inches and produced a huge BANG. I list under PROs only in that it makes an entertaining story. I knew from the critiques I was rolling the dice on this PS but hoping against frequent sense for the Energy vs Cost. Stay away from this factor and save yourself the cost of return shipping, etc. Manufacturer Response:Hello,We apologize for the inconvenience. Please contact tech@coolmaxusa.com for further support on this unit. 1) Price2) It's a "green item"three) Modular design4) Lots of connections I bought this power supply on 11-30-08 as a spare for that day when I had a challenge. I ended up utilizing it in my new create for my i7-920 gaming PC in November of 2009. It lasted Less THAN two months. My setup isn't as opposed to a lot of other out there. i7-920, 6Gb triple channel DDR3, twin 1Gb Seagate 7200 rpm drives, Blu-Ray drive, GTX 275 and an Omega Striker sound card. 950 watts must run this setup without any issues. I turned off my pc an Friday night and POOF, it wouldn't energy on on Saturday afternoon. I substituted in a 700 watt energy supply and it works wonderful. I have submitted for a RMA from COOLMAX and from what I'm reading on here, I'm not positive what will happen with it. -- For the record, I use a power conditioner in front of my electronics, so "bad power" shouldn't be an concern. (My other two computers work just fine!!) Also, I bought the CORSAIR CMPSU-1000HX last night from NewEgg as my replacement. Let's hope it works out nicely.

It's modular, it need to energy something you want for a gaming comp, it doesn't glow which may possibly be a con for some but I leave my comp on although I sleep and a vibrant glow would be annoying. 4 stars because I'm nonetheless happy with it even immediately after these few issues. The fan is loud but from what I've read that's to be expected with any 950W PSU, immediately after about 11 months it began creating an very loud noise like one thing was hitting the fan inside it bouncing about.I managed to be lazy sufficient to not send it in for an RMA when it began clanking in the last month my warranty was excellent, I resisted opening it up because I intended on sending it in and the loud "large metal object in a dryer" noise didn't commonly last long and stopped for various days. At 1 year the fan stopped working altogether but I'll explain what I discovered and how I fixed it.A con for newegg is that they need to give you additional space in the "Other thoughts" section.I would only suggest proceeding if your warranty has expired although you could in all probability fix the rattling sound without opening the case fully. Explained in the subsequent section. When working properly the fan will literally "jump" forward or backwards due to magnets when you turn it slightly and releas Soon after the warranty expired I had no qualms about opening that sucker up and acquiring out what happened (Which I really wanted to do in the initially spot anyway) and I discovered that a fan blade had come off and was banging around inside of the PSU, luckily there is a plastic cover to keep things from smashing against any sensitive parts and the blade was very easily removed. You could get to it by removing the metal wire frame from over the fan and pulling it out that way without voiding the warranty. As for the fan stopping entirely, it was difficult to turn by hand and did not "jump" to the magnets that are employed to make the fan work correctly. I pulled the sticker off, sprayed WD40 inside the leading and in the sides of the key component of the fan, turned it and pried it, very gently, downward away from the base. Following three minutes or so it lastly loosened up to where it would jump to the magnets and now it's working fine, just without having the 1 fan blade that fell off. Hope this helped and superior lu

What I really enjoy about this PSU is that the power cables are not built in so that you only have to put in what you need which has really helped to decrease clutter. Plenty of power and plenty quiet. I highly recommend this PSU to anybody on a spending budget. None so far. This is a wonderful substitute to modifying your case to hide your cables. Only plug in what is necessary!

Love the modular aspect of the Psu and fan Cools the Power supply adequately and my laptop or computer runs flawlessly when it comes to power The fan did rattle when fan start to speed up to cool the power supply but I discovered fix for it by adding Paper Washers inside the fan no additional rattling there a thin nylon washer like disc split radially on one side on the back part of fan underneath the sticker you pull it apart with small screwdriver to take the fan apart then add paper washer and then put nylon washer back on

Advertised 950 watts... Modular too. This factor is horrible. I bought this brand new from a retail store and it would randomly turn off my pc. I am employing a single GTX 295 video card, a Q6600 cpu with 8GB of Ram and 2 drives... 950 Watts is far more than sufficient to run these. Nevertheless, randomly my personal computer turns off about when just about every 2 days. I removed this power supply and went back to my old BFG 650 Watt power supply and every little thing works fine. Also, the PSU fan would never improve its RPM speed, it would always stay at its lowest setting. This thing is going back for a full refund. Stick with identified brands like Corsair, Antec and BFG. They price a bit a lot more but will not fail you. If you are running a GTX 295, even a 650W power supply runs perfectly... but only if you do not have a i7 Extreme cpu.
