This is a very handy accessory to have in your arsenal. If you are like me and have old working but outdated hard drives laying around you can use this device to utilize them to store or transfer large amounts of data from one PC to another easily. Great for backing up your HD and storing far away from the computer (eg - fire safe)

Hands down this has to be one of the best pieces of hardware I have ever purchased (right up there with an 8800GT)! It is so wonderful to be able to connect an IDE HD or SATA HD OUTSIDE of the computer and move files, copy drives, whatever. Since I rearrange my HDs periodically (both IDE & SATA) and as I buy new larger drives this makes it a piece of cake. When I made my purchase it had a $10 rebate, so 19.99 (counting S&H) made this a spectacular value!

Bought this mostly because I regularly need to recover or backup faulty drives. The device I received is not exactly as the one pictured when I ordered, though I believe mine is less clunky, better designed. One problem I encountered is that on some 3.5 IDE drives, the power connector is located right next to the IDE connector, making it impossible to connect both connectors right onto the device - I then need to use a male/female IDE cable. Note that this occured only in 1 drive out of 8, so it may be related to older drives (but I think if you needed to connect CD or DVD drives, this may occur more often). Also note that most other similar devices seem to have the same flaw. Overall, I'm satisfied with the device, though I may have been equally satisfied with a less expensive one.
