Quick. Quick. Quickly. also Fast. Installed into my 2008 macbook pro 15" with 6GB RAM that i was providing to my wife. On launching apps and general navigation it is now more rapidly than my 2011 sandy bridge quadcore macbook pro with 8GB RAM and 5400rpm stock HD. There is a debate on whether or not SSDs conserve power or not. Im my case YES. This drive has one of the lowest resting power consumptions. Below mild use of HD (web browsing, writing and editing documents, etc) I get 45-110 minutes greater battery life than with 5400rpm stock drive. Considering that my wife won't be doing significantly video or photo edits, of a ton of file writes or moving, the SSD is Perfect for her. She also travels with the laptop alot so the inherent shock protection is great. This drive runs quiet and cool as properly. So quiet its eerie and quite brilliant. No drive cons however. Swapping HD in that distinct macbook pro is way more of a pain than it required to be. for mac customers: even though the drive supports TRIM, there nevertheless is no pure TRIM assistance in 10.6.7 (although it can be hacked in) but will be present in 10.7. Also i have heard that earlier firmwares can lead to troubles on certain macs and you need a windows box to upgrade firmware. The drive lists what firmware is installed although. As of 4ቧ, my drive shipped with the most existing firmware and worked fine.-bear in mind to disable sudden motion sensor. you will have to briefly use terminal (google directions)-recall to disable "put HD to sleep" in enery preference panel

Extremely straightforward to install, TRIM help when used with the proper driver (I'm making use of the Intel Matrix STorage Manager 1008 beneath Windows 7 residence premium.. Previously had a five.9 WEI with a RAID setup between two fairly fast 7200 RPM drives.. Now, I get 7.7 WEI for this drive. Boot time is phenomenal, instally wakes from sleep... I like this drive.. Still keep 3 HDD's in the system for storage of data, but OS & programs run off the SSD. Would have been great if they included a 2.five" to 3.5" adapter tray.. Went out and purchased one right after the truth.

Kicks out the rated speeds with silent ease; after 7 months of heavy use, still meets or exceeds advertised speeds.Light and uncomplicated to set up - velcro performs fineOn a SATA 6Gb/s port (probably SATA 3Gb/s too; it's backward compatible but I in no way tried it), no a lot more frustration waiting for an app (or OS) to load or a scan to complete. The difference truly is like evening and day.For ex:Following Effects CS4 - prepared to use in 9 seconds (if you know AE you appreciate how extremely fast that is)Premiere Pro CS4 - exact same, eight or 9 seconds Photoshop, Illustrator, Encore, Flash CS4 - 4 or 5 secondsBridge CS4 - 2 seconds. Seriously. Click the icon, 1...two...Ready!Corel Painter XI - 5 or 6 secondsAll aforementioned apps have to load numerous 3rd-celebration plug-ins, modules and fonts. All have user-configured workspaces that set function panels and monitors spread out over two 24" 1900x1200 displays.Absolutely nothing bothers this drive! No cons other than "it's not the most recent n greatest."There are more quickly SSDs on the marketplace now and much better, more efficient controllers. But the cost, speed and reliability of this drive are all so very good I will purchase an additional ASAP. My two principal concerns when I comparison-shopped SSDsɅ) the controller's reliability, fw updates, etc. 2) functionality hit more than timeThe Marvell controller this Essential uses has an exceptional rep and I can confirm that immediately after 7 months of heavy use ྫྷ-16hrs/day, 6-7 days/wk) ATTO reports zero - ZERO - speed drop. All Read/Writes continue to hit or surpass their advertised benchmarks. Windows reports 119.24G readily available (ㅂGB over-provisioning by Crucial). OS + installed apps = 35GB. 84.24GB no cost.

Works like a charm. Incredibly speed enhancer (plus it's silent). Boot time fell in half; applications open much far more speedily. I guess the objective evidence is that the Windows 7 performance index for the key difficult drive jumped from five.9 to 7.7 when I moved my C partition to this drive from a Western Digital SATA3 challenging drive. And all this is nonetheless making use of an Asus motherboard with SATA2, not SATA3. Capacity and price tag per GB. But such is life with new technology. I got over it. Merely a good productivity enhancer. Concerning defragmenting -- Use Diskeeper with its HyperFast add-on particularly for solid state drives (SSD). Works like a charm without harming the SSD.

Tiny, loads quick, writes rapid. Not much adjust in temperature. Effectively, value but it's the most recent and greatest, right? Retain in thoughts this is the latest technology out there. I've run into a couple of hiccups, but I believe it had a lot more to do with the mobo itself. I've had to do a number of OS installs mainly because I kept altering bios settings. Do a little research on installing an OS on SSD drives beforehand. There are some troubles inside the bios settings that mess with these drives, that's all I can figure at this point. As lengthy as I leave the bios alone for the most element, it's a wonderful drive!

Next ideal soon after Intel, less costly than Intel (matters to me - was a hard year economically). One of the fastest at present:SATA IIIǜGbps true speed, not a marketing gimmick as is the situation with hardisks - no harddisk can throughput at 6GBps in spite of promoting names (except possibly 10K+ RPM drives, even thouse doubtful), but SSD's can - some, not all. This SSD does live to its spec - 6Gbps, verified when new. As MOST SSD's speed does drop with use due to ocerhead processing when repeated write/erase cycles happen, but that's the situation w/all SSD's except Intel is less affected. It's just Quickly, and general next ideal following Intel & but not crazy-expensive like Intels. No cons at this price. I can't afford an Intel, this year. You need to study about MLCII & MLCI & "garbage collecion" processing accomplished by firmware and/or OS, and particularly ABSOLUTE Need to have FOR OS (e.g. Windows) tbe capable to "talk" to SSD's firmwave thru TRIM Command. The superior Intels are all fine-tuned to work with Windows7 TRIm command, and include sector's most advanced I/O Controller. This Essential is not Intel but probably next best. Don't even consider of G.Ability & other newbies, they're cheapo imitations. I do NOT function for Intel by the way, if you need to have to confirm - ask me. I just know for a fact Intel nonetheless holds lead in SSD's (engineer right here), after all these years, but competitors are getting closer - QCZ, Important, Mushkin, and so forth.

Glad I went for 128GB vs. 64GB to be key drive for OS (W7 & W7 SP1) and applications (VS2010+the functions) and still have space for my computer software development wants (all builds against data on the SSD though music, videos, docs, etc. on WD green drive)

I own 2 and have them in RAID , amazingly fast and straightforward to install. Make positive you have the most recent firmware to help with garbage collection (especially in RAID). Benchmarks for these in RAID outcome in access times of .1 - .2 ms and common read occasions of among 680-690 MB/s! Incredibly pleased thus far, I'll update if anything changes. None so far. There is presently incredibly extremely tiny support for TRIM in RAID setups with SSDs. For casual customers, the garbage collection that takes place during idle instances really should be enough, but it's worth noting before you place into RAID setup. That becoming said, I'm finding nearly 90-one hundred% sequential read efficiency improve in RAID with SATA III, so it's anything to think about. Create efficiency does not benefit near as significantly, but it does still support quite a bit ྾-50% raise or so).

Extremely fast as stated. Had numerous troubles when I was putting in this. Initial, when I did a fresh install, a thing went wrong and it brought on me not to be in a position to click on any icons. Under no circumstances had that happen prior to. And this is the large a single. These SSD drives can NOT go into sleep. Following a day of coming back and noticing that my computer keeps turning off, I figured that out. I named technical support and they know of the issue. I surely am not blaming essential that this point. It appears to be additional of a Windows difficulty. When the personal computer goes into standby it cuts the power to the drive which shuts down the computer system. You can Hibernate the laptop or computer but you have to go into the settings and make sure the hard drive never shuts down.Immediately after performing a fresh install and creating certain the drive by no means turns down, it is great. The wave of the future. Just requirements a bit more time to get all the bugs out

So even though it is somewhat a tiny drive, I think it is extremely sufficient as a OS drive paired with a two-3 TB RAID five or RAID ten

This drive is all sorts of rapidly. Ran a speed test prior to installing Linux, superior-than-advertised speeds on a 1gb block 鶰 MB/s). It takes longer for my BIOS to fire up and init AHCI than it takes to go from Grub to a totally usable desktop. Accidentally installed Rift to it (Steam, at least by way of Wine, puts the installer and patcher in the regular spot, the rest of the game files go elsewhere), load occasions are outrageously quick.Crazy in all the ideal strategies. My boss didn't believe me when I mentioned "brb rebooting" and was back in Campfire inside 30 seconds... Ubuntu users: Most of the SSD optimization guides are for 9.04 and 9.10. Ubuntu ten.10 (and I think 10.04) does a great job of aligning the partitions, no need to have to mess with them. Just make confident you use the noatime flag for the partitions in fstab, and set elevator=noop in either Grub (if you're only running off SSD) or via sysfsutils (if you mix SSD and platter drives).

It's not super loud, but I can consistently hear it above the fan noise in my new machine. It is comparable in pitch to a dentist's drill, which I come across irritating. The P8P67 enables AHCI mode on the SATA III ports by default.Make particular you connect this drive to the LOWEST NUMBERED SATA port if you're installing Win 7 to it. I initial attempted to install Windows with the drive connected to the SATA III port Š. Windows detected the drive and said it had copied files, but installation hung with Expanding Files %. Rapid. Installed windows 7 in ten minutes. Good boot/program drive. Laptop battery life also went up by ㅌ mins. Loading times drastically lowered for everything AHCI drivers. Use the default microsoft AHCI drivers. I installed the Nvidia drivers for my dell laptop and it quickly resulted in system hang ups and lag. Reverting back to the default MS AHCI drivers fixed anything. Also, the one particular factor to caution with this is to get rid of (or at least decrease the size to one thing really smaller. Mine is set at 200mb. Just adequate to make windows happy) the pagefile. It isn't that major of a concern, but having a significant pagefile that is consistently being written and read from can lead to alot of extra put on and tear on the NAND. Make certain you know your way about a computer prior to you get this. The small troubles and troubles that might come up when you install it can make it a discomfort in the rear for individuals who don't know their way around windows.
