D-Link DNS-323 2-Bay Network Storage Enclosure
Cons:Only 2 bays, power cord could be longer

Pros:Very easy configuration, excellent software included for the less-experienced, awesome web-based gui.
Comment:
I've recently bought my 2nd DNS-323, this time for a friend of mine. I installed 2x500GB WD Green drives in RAID1, and he is very happy with it! The first unit was purchased a couple years ago for my parents. It also had 2x500GB HDDs in RAID1. They have had 0 problems with it, and love the fact that it goes into sleep mode when not being accessed. If you are looking for a simple NAS backup device, I would HIGHLY recommend the D-Link DNS-323. Price is excellent and the unit itself does not disappoint.

D-Link DNS-323 2-Bay Network Storage Enclosure
Cons:Blue light on the front is inoying, there are 2 parts to the power cable in the middle is a brick, if the DNS-323 is high enough where the brick is suspended in mid air the cable seems to disconnect from the brick.

Pros:AMAZING. Very to easy to use web interface. extreamly quiet operation. small design to put it anywhere,
Comment:
This this is amazing. I purchased just over a year ago and not 1 SERIOUS problem. in the weaknesses I mentioned the blue led is bright and the power brick is heavy and disconnects the cable from it if the brick is suspended but other then thoes 2 very small points theres noting wrong with it. This NAS is whisper quiet I never hear it and it's in my living room under my tv. its fast ( I get about 18mbps on a Gbit Link) i have 2 of these now (1 with 2 x 1.5TB and 1 with 2x 500GB) and they both work great. I have one with all my movies,tv shows, music, pictures on it. I stream 10-20GB .mkv's from it to my samsung BDP-3600 and not 1 second in dropped connection... NOTHING. i use the other one for apps and OS X Time Machine backups and works amazing. for the price I would pay even more for everything you get from these boxes.

Pros:Great solution to provide storage accessed from all my computers.

Great way to share all kinds of documents on a network. I have this with 2 1TB WD black and it is working great in raid 1 configuration.

Cons:Speed

Pros:Cheap low cost nas solution
Comment:
I've had the 323 for 1/2 a year now and for the price its a decent little box. very mod-able, very easy to use out fo the box. but as the other reviewers have noticed the gigibit connection doesn't pull much more than 18-20MB/sec MAX. the bottle neck on this nas is the very underpowered processor on the box, but you get what you pay for.all in all its a decent starter nas for someone who isn't moving a lot of data constantly. the ideal use for this would be to feed a networked media player like a popcorn hour or WD tv Live.

Cons:Slow transfers

Pros:Cheap, does what its designed for
Comment:
Decent box when on sale. Very slow transfers for gigabit. Your lucky if you get 15 MB/sec transfer to it, so dont expect blazing speeds. For media streaming to Popcorn hours or WD Live it worked quite well tho.

D-Link DNS-323 2-Bay Network Storage Enclosure
Cons:Sometimes a bit slow to respond when drives are in sleep mode.

Pros:Great for some remote storage.
Comment:
Great product to use for external backup as all drives will eventually fail. Using in Raid 1, for redunancy backup. Work good. I notice sometimes it's a big sluggish getting out of "sleep" mode, when I haven't accessed the drives in a bit. Websites out there describe  methods to install software that works on the NAS for easier support.

Cons:Can't use the utility disk on Mac OSX.

Pros:Works as described.
Comment:
I've been using this for a few months and everything works perfectly. I usually power it down when not in use. I tested pulling out one of the drives and replaced with one of my spares and it remirrored as expected. I use this to store raw files which are huge these days, so this product is just what I need to keep them secure.

D-Link DNS-323 2-Bay Network Storage Enclosure
Cons:Not true Gigabit.

Pros:Network storage is good! Decent price. Flawless setup with my Epson CX3810, works great! Easy setup. Really nice looking!
Comment:
For the money you really can't beat this product. Its more like a 200MbLAN. Transfer speeds are for the most part 16-18MBs, if its a bunch of tiny files, expect more like 6-7MBs... For a wireless network, its more than enough speed. But if I do connect my laptop to my desktop with a wire I get upwards of 120MBs bursts, 80-100MBs mainly. My wireless-N in my house is only capable of 6MBs Down and 8MBs up, so honestly in reality its more than fast enough. It took 4m15s to upload a 3.82GB image file through a gigabit LAN and 8m35s through wireless-N. Printer setup was a breeze. For someone like me who is looking for affordable NETWORK/BACKUP storage and printing, this is the answer. I'd look elsewhere if you're into serious speed of a wired Gigabit LAN storage. Clearly not Gigabit device, as advertised, shame on DLink... Hopefully we'll see a firmware update  addressing speed, besides that, I really love this product!

D-Link DNS-323 2-Bay Network Storage Enclosure
Cons:Buggy streaming features; print server doesn't appear to work in OS X.

Pros:Cheap; easy mounting of drives; large user base, lots of hacks.
Comment:
As a NAS it works just fine, however it seems like that most 'extra' features are hit-or-miss. I couldn't get the streaming of media files to work properly. The print server is flawless in Windows, but unreliable with OS X (though I've read reviews claiming it worked just fine, so I might just be incompetent). It has to be rebooted every once in a while, but you'd expect that from a consumer-grade network device. Get it if it's cheap, but bear in mind that getting the more advanced features to work could involve a fight.

Cons:The manual lacks clarity, slow to wake up, occasionally disconnects.

Pros:Fast, small, quiet (with 7200.12s)
Comment:
We're using this to stream audio files at an NHL facility. Setup instructions are vague and certainly not in a technically accepted format. It runs very well on a small Gigabit subnet and some of the earlier bugs are no longer apparent. We're not using the server functions of this device so I can't review that. I have a variety of NAS equipment in various locations and this one fits in the middle of the pack.

Great storage device paired along with caviar greens. Impossible to hear drives spinning unless you just turned it on. Works great to back up whatever files you wish. Very easy to set up and the instructions are simple to follow. Only problem is that the printer support is sorta weird and haven't gotten it working

Cons:Print server not exactly intuitive, even with a single function laser printer.

Pros:So easy a noob can use most of it - pretty good UI for set-up.Cheap.Compact and solid.Power saving option a nice touch.
Comment:
Bought to store movies, pictures, and disk images/backups for home network. For a mirrored RAID function (I have 1.5 TB WD caviar greens inside), it is a smoking deal, esp when on sale. Simple to set up. Easy to access. Power saving function appeals to certain members of the house, and to be honest the 10 seconds or so it takes to spool up are not a problem.Could not get all computers to access printer, despite all of them having the drivers pre-installed. Some would print only pictures, not text, others mangled text, but others worked fine. Just took too long to get set up, and only partially successful. If I were a smarter noob I would be happy to have scored an integrated print server. But I am not. Therefore not for complete network novices, but about as easy as it gets as far as RAID goes. Would definitely buy again, just not if I was looking for an easy print server (how I wish I had plunked down the extra $ for a network-capable Sammy in the first place...)

Cons:Gigabit performance could be better

Pros:Quiet, gigabit connection, reliable, hackable
Comment:
I just bought another one of these. I'm using it for data storage (Raid 1) and it's performing very well. For me one of the best features is that the fan turns itself off and the disks go to sleep. When used heavily the fan will spin pretty fast and make quite a bit of noise, but for a couple of minutes I can live with it. Since the box is actually running linux there is a multitude of hacks and improvements for it. Very cool product.

Cons:- Some of the features are iffy at best in their stability

Pros:- Easy to set up- Plenty of usefull features- Inexpensive
Comment:
I bought this to share files on my network between computers, and as an always on FTP server. I does serve those 2 purposes admirably. The transfer speed is very good considering its only a 100 mbit port (Around 10MB/sec). I Installed a WD Caviar Green 1TB drive in it, works flawlessly so far. I did update  to the 1.08 beta firmware (which I recommand), which fixed an issue with non standard FTP port assignment, and general fixes. Printer support looks a bit iffy, it just kind of freeze when I try to send documents to my Canon MP160 plugged into it, so no luck there. Also the UPnP support looks a bit flacky, and sometimes just refuses to work until I reboot the device, but as I dont use this feature really, its just a minor annoyance to me, that will most likely be fixed in a future firmware update , but just a heads up for those truly wanting this feature.

I have been using the DNS 323 for ~2 months now. I purchased two Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1500GB 1.5TB SATA2 7200RPM 32MB hard drives for this unit, and configured it RAID 0 (striping, no parity)I am extremely happy and impressed with this unit. It was very easy to setup, and have not encountered any problems with it, for the exception of the USB printer. Everything worked ok, until the queue got messed up - which is not an easy thing to play with. The performance is excellent. I store large/small files and other than a slight slow down with large amounts of small files (which, happens on computers between drives), no issues. I can watch digital copies of my stored blu-ray movies on the computer without problem. The only thing I would have liked to have added - is a way to connect it to a local host via USB/Firewire/eSATA. I knew this before purchasing it, but just throwing it in there. :)Some people have issue with the power-down mode. It simply puts the hard drives in sleep mode (it's a setting, I set mine to 20 minutes) and it takes ~20-30 seconds for the drives to wind up before being able to access the disk. I personally don't find a problem with this. For example, all my mp3s are stored on the device, and when I open winamp - it takes 20s or so before the mp3 playlist starts to play.Overall a kick-ass product, and would definitely recommend as a low-cost network attached storage device.

D-Link DNS-323 2-Bay Network Storage Enclosure
Cons:Not refreshing uPNP & iTunes index after 500 GB or so on 1 TB raid-1 drives. Not fully utilizing 1 GBit LAN speed. Web interface is very simple and should have more features standard such as a webserver.

Pros:Initially it appears to be an amazing value. 1GBIT LAN, 2 SATA HDDs all for under 200$. It's an iTunes Server, uPNP for your PS3 or other device. It's compact, simple, light, quiet and easy to setup.
Comment:
I have had this for roughly 6 months. I Loved it right up until I put more than 500 GB (approx) on it. I am setup for RAID-1 (mirror) with 2xWD Caviar Black drives. After I hit 500 GB, no longer would the uPNP or iTunes refresh (re-index for new files added) complete past 8 or 16% progress. It still operated fine as an SMB share, but that is not why I bought this device. I am no longer using it and have installed the two drives in my PC tower and will setup uPNP using my PC. Likely this unit will suffice if you are using a pair of 500 GB drives, otherwise, remember, when it's too good to be true, it likely is.I picked *** Satisfactory as I didn't buy it here so I don't have an order ID. I would put it down for ** It Works but would not purchase again.

Just ordered my 4 th unit. Everything that I want to store will be on this type of NAS from now on . I bought my first unit after spending over 250 $ trying to recover stuff from a crashed drive (wife almost killed me, as some videos from the kids were lost forever). RAID feature is definetly a ++I also like the fact that no computer are required to run 24/7, and Windows Media Center can access them directly.I can't really think of a bad point to mention !

D-Link DNS-323 2-Bay Network Storage Enclosure
Cons:Manual for XP only, drives rattle.

Pros:So far does every thing as advertised
Comment:
Bought it because I did not have a network printer so had to leave main computer on all the time so the other 4 could use it, and as a file back up/share point for all 5 computers. Got those two features up and running in only a few hours including running cables an such. Found that the drives rattle a bit, but easy fix with small bite of rubber. Simplified my whole network immensely, even the xbox talks to it no problem, did notice that you can’t watch a movie and transfer files at the same, may have to tweak router a bit to fix that.
