ECS A780GM-A ATX AMD Motherboard
Comment:
Seems like a decent board at first with all nice looks and all, but don't be fooled it's not amazing. This board has some major flaws. First off, the onboard audio sucks when you play games, you will get iw3sp errors sometimes. Thanx to the PCI slots tho it is fixed with the purchase of a audio card. Second, and most disturbing is the lack of attention to bios. The timing are set wrong so if your memory runs 4-4-3-15 it will read 4-4-3-13 which if your memory is high quality and picky will not run right so you will experience crashes. It can be fixed however by manual setting to 4-4-3-17 in which you fool the board into thinking its a 4-4-3-15. Lastly the DIMM voltage in bios reads in mV not volts and they have a confusing numbers system to set it. For memory needing more than 1.8 v set it to number 37 to 40 and you will experience better feedback. Good luck with this board if your a builder, I had alot of researching to do so I hope this helps you.

What a great board at this $. I'm not a gammer, so its features are ok for me. Unlike Nvidia Chipset, this one with ATI chipset is fantastic! Wish I had it in the first place! Lately came across a lot of junks never before in my life. Bad things from TD: 2xSeagate 1TGB HD, & terrible Nvidia Chip-set MO's 4xXFX7500a followed by 2xECSGF8200A (item #S458-1308 that's marginally more expensive. Also saw guys returning Asus & 1 with 4 Intel MO's ). This MO started as it should, driver installation smooth and logical, even did not tick LAN with my wireless driver detected, I guess. It even supports 1G shared memory for video! Glitches：RAM slots not numbered on MO or manual and cannot recognised my Dual Channel Corsair 2x2GB RAMS, showing them as (unganged). I think I can find out why and fix it eventually. This is really a good budget MO.

I got this motherboard last week and i have problems it hooking up. In a pack with screws there was a lead for the speakers and i can hook it up but no place to hook up the other side and so far i do not know if this MB is good or what cause i have problems with a wire hooking up to the F_Audio cause the hook up is on the other side of the MB and no way to hook it up.

This board provides performance! While the BIOS options are a little sketchy, moderate OC'ing is easy once studied, however I would not recommend this for astronomical overclocking (0.6+ GHz). As others have noted, this board does get a little crisp with temperatures, but does not seem to differ much whether idle or under load. Paired with Phenom 9950 (2.6 GHz), 4 GBs gSkill PC6400, MSI Geforce 9800 GT OC, Antec Earthwatts 650, Stock AMD CPU fan.

I don't know if it's just the card, or the board, but I got a HIS Radeon 3870 IceQ3 Turbo card for Christmas and now, every time I try to play a game, it blacks out the screen, and says that some sort of ati application stopped running and recovered. It didn't happen with my old 2600. And don't say that I need to update my drivers, because I have Catalyst 8.12. Also the BIOS flasher on the ECS website is junk. Oh yeah, the sound that everone is complaining about, I had the problem until I uninstalled the driver from the disk and let Vista install the generic sound driver. Much better.

IMPORTANT FACT. This board does everything exceptionally well except its intergrated sound which is static when trying to listen to anything on your speaker set up but except that it is a great board and looks sharp too.

I'm using this board with 4 gigs of Corsair 6400 RAM, an AMD 9850, Visiontech ATI 4850, a 100watt Ultra, and stock fans. The OS is Vista 64 bit. It works great--a far better ''experience index'' than my XFX 680i. For the money this is a great board. It also handled an ATI 4870 just fine.

hyper x fire only works with vista.and 3470 ati that works with hyper x fire on this motherboard is so slow my geforce 8500 gt runs better..save your money and get a better mother board..like xfx with the geforce 8200 on it...it is a lot faster but you still need vista for the hyper video..I did not get this mother board from here but i did read all the feedback and NO ONE SAID YOU GOT TO USE VISTA and that stinks!!!!!!!!!

I think the previous mention of the ECS website not supporting 140W CPU may either have been looking at the wrong MB or ECS had an error as it now DOES state: The A790GXM-A is ECS Black Series platform based on the best combination of the new AMD 790GX and SB750 chipset plus support for the latest ***140W*** Phenom quad core processors up to HT 5200 MT/s with Hyper Transport 3.0 technology links and integrated DDR2 1066* memory controller on the latest AM2+ platform. The A790GXM-A provides the AMD latest technology Hybrid Graphics and CrossFireX technology for Pro Gamer. It also supports for AMD Special SidePort Memory for the extreme graphic performance computing ,and UVD 2.0, DirectX 10, PCI Express2.0 HDMI/HDCPetc for Full HD Video entertainment.

ill start by saying that this board is a great value for the price if u get a good one, however my board was doa. ecs elite group is located in tawain and has no hot line. e-mail response takes about 3-4 days and im pretty sure its a comp. gen. response to any problems u may have. i got 2 doa boards in a row and they were no help at all. tiger was great and exchanged the boards each time without question, i just had to pay shipping, thanks tiger. but beware of ecs elite group,i'm out an extra 100$ i coulda used on somthin sweet. my asus replacement is awesome and they actually have real live tech support.

I just got my system up and running and I'm pleased with the performance of this board so far. The supplied disk had all the necessary drivers and the installation went smooth. I have no complaints at all. At some point I'm gonna dabble with the crossfire feature. I'll have to reaserch that some more. For now I'll enjoy what I have....The motherboard works great. Its pretty fast too. Thanks Tiger for the outstanding attention to my order.

Well i find this to be a good board i got it yesterday installed it and so far working perfectly with my 5600 and 4 gig ocz 6400 reaper mem the last reviewer might try not overclocking heat causes resistance and overclocking creates more heat try using it as you get it

Despite the overwhelm acclaims in the previous reviews, I highly de-recommend this mobo. First of all, the quality of this mobo sucks. I can not even finish 3dmark 2006 test even once on this mobo. It also doesn't have good support for overclocking. I can only get my amd 5000+ up to 3.0ghz besides to make it there I have to downclock my ocz 6400 ram to around 720! The other 780g boards for around 10 dollars more perform much better and much more stable than this one. A simple comparison is that my MSI k9a2 fih can take even my AMD 4400+ easily from 2.3 ghz to 3.2 ghz with 3.4ghz bootable. Also after some cmos clears, this ECS mobo begins to boot very slowly as if it is on the verge of heat attack; I am afraid that my ecs a780gm may not last long. It may be the cheapest 780g mobo around, but as far as performance to price ratio and the gains in the long run is concerned, I don't recommand you to buy this one if you have other choices. This is my first and will be my last ECS mobo.

This is a GREAT MOBO for the price. I used it for my first build and beleive it or not, it actually worked when I got everything together. The board was well marked with very good instructions. The SATA ports worked as advertised and the OS, Windows XP loaded at once with no problems. I used the AMD 64X2 5000 black CPU and this combo is a real screamer. The only thing I would have liked was a serial port, and firewire connection. Bought both of these PCI cards for under $40.00. THANKS TIGER!!!

i've had such an issue with ECS in the past that it's disgusting, i had an ECS 6100SM-M, it lasted 2 days until the memory slots wouldn't function correctly, well this has all changed, look at this motherboard as ECS comming out and telling the world we're as good as ASUS, count this is ECS's flagship motherboard. EXCELLENT performance to value ratio.

Absolutely amazing board. I used this board to build a PC for a friend and was blown away. On board graphics is as good as any graphics card I have seen DX10 and I don't think it mentions this on the page anywhere but it has Hybrid Crossfire which means you can crossfire the onboard graphics card with an ATI crossfire compatible video card, and get crossfire performance from a single video card. Beyond that you have 8 channel HD sounds. HDMI port. I have a $150 Asus Deluxe AM2 and though it performs great I wish I had bought this one for all the added functionality.
