Cons: None.

Pros: Low cost.Large capacity.
Comment:
I purchased 2x Hitachi 5K3000 3TB and 2x Hitachi 5K3000 2TB hard drives when they were on sale. 10TB for less than $400 before tax and shipping. So far I'm very impressed by how they perform. They are cool, quiet and very fast.

Hitachi Deskstar 5K300 2TB SATA3 32MB Cache 3.5IN Internal Hard Drive OEM

Hitachi Deskstar 5K300 2TB SATA3 32MB Cache 3.5IN Internal Hard Drive OEM
Cons: Only 32MB of cache. Most 2TB drives has 64MB. A little beat noisier than my old WD10EACS.

Pros: Does not support the Advanced Format. 2TB, low power, SATA3, 5300rpm. Not a Seagate brand.
Comment:
I bought 2 of these drives to replace the 2 WD10EACS that were in my DNS-323 NAS.Since the WD20EADS are now discontinued, all we're left with in the consumer market from WD are the damn Advanced Format drives that are not compatible with the DNS-323. Of course there's the Caviar Black with dual processors, but it generate too much heat and noise to be in my bedroom. The other aternative from WD are the Enterprise class GreePower drives, but they're about 270+$ for a single 2TB drive.Since I don't like Seagate drives, I went with this Hitachi drive. I've only been using it for a day now, but it perform the same as my old WD10EACS. I havn't seen any performance drop  nor improvement. They seem to run cooler from a few degrees than my old WD10EACS. I couldn't notice any noise difference. The drives are SATA3, so they are backward compatible with SATA2(as used in DNS-323 boxes).

Hitachi Deskstar 5K300 2TB SATA3 32MB Cache 3.5IN Internal Hard Drive OEM
Cons: 32mb cache, lower than most 5400RPM drives due to only having 32mb cache, no performance gain when used on SATA3 connection over SATA2.

Pros: Quiet, 5400RPM, Low Power, not AF/4K drives, SATA3.
Comment:
When it comes to reliable storage, and I do mean STRICTLY storage, I've always had great luck with Hitachi drives. They aren't that great as main drives due to their speed (ie. slow), but their failure rate is 1/3 that of Seagate or WD... if that (I build PCs for a living, and I must RMA 10 WD or Seagate drives for every Hitachi that has failed). Throw a small, fast WD Black or SSD as the main drive, and use this as the storage/data drive, and you won't regret it. In any case, I bought 6 of these, 4 to replace my 4x1TB Hitachi drives that are in my DNS-323 boxes, and 2 for a client. Great thing about these drives (at least the 2TB ones) is that they are not AF/4K drives, meaning I could just dump them right into the DNS-323 boxes without special formatting, or risking my boxes on the beta 1.10 firmware.

Hitachi Deskstar 5K300 2TB SATA3 32MB Cache 3.5IN Internal Hard Drive OEM
Cons: - None

Pros: + Reasonably quiet both at idle and seeking, can't really hear it over my computer fans+ Good bang for the buck.. 2000 GB for $70.. 3.5 cents per GB+ Reasonably fast linear read speeds
Comment:
I bought this to be used as an external storage drives for my media files and misc. data files. Using HDTune, I managed about 88 MB/s average read speed over eSATA. I chose this over the WD Green 2TB just for a change of scenery -- Almost all of the other hard drives I own are WD.Overall this is a great deal at 3.5 cents per GB. Works great as a data drive, probably not so well as an OS/gaming drive.

Hitachi Deskstar 5K300 2TB SATA3 32MB Cache 3.5IN Internal Hard Drive OEM
Cons: None so far.

Pros: Quiet & cool.
Comment:
Although I've so far only used this drive to back up 3 smaller drives, I've been pretty impressed with it in such a short time. The Good:- VERY quiet! This is THE quietest hard drive I've ever used, i.e. I couldn't hear any noise coming from it, even though it was mounted in a docking station while doing the backups!- This drive is also very cool. Several times during the recent backup sessions, I touched the drive to see how hot it was, and it was barely warm to the touch, unlike lots of other drives I've used in the past, which can often be quite toasty.- Reasonably priced.... at $70 on sale, it was a pretty good value for the amount of storage space.- Also reasonably fast, i.e. although this isn't a 7200 RPM drive, and I wasn't using it on a SATA3 port, it still tested out at ~76 MB/sec.The Bad:- Zip, Zero, Nada.... at least so far. ;-)

Hitachi Deskstar 5K300 2TB SATA3 32MB Cache 3.5IN Internal Hard Drive OEM
Cons: None so far

Pros: More stable than WD Green drives, decent speed, price/value/size, low operating temperature
Comment:
I have purchased 7 2TB 5k3000 and I get 80-85 MB/s sustained throughput in a WHS 2003 with a single core Athlon 64 2GHz. These drives run cool they run between 34-39 degrees celsius in a HP Mediasmart server filled with 4 drives, as a comparison my former WD Green 1TB drives were running between 42-47 degrees celsius. The ambiant air temperature is about 25 degrees as a reference. These drives will probably last a long time if there are no build issues. The noise level is very low as I can only hear my older drives doing seeks (Seagate 750GB and WD Green 1TB), perfect for SOHO but not tested in a bedroom or living room so your mileage may vary.

Hitachi Deskstar 5K300 2TB SATA3 32MB Cache 3.5IN Internal Hard Drive OEM
Cons: none for the price

Pros: Cheap ($70), fast for storage drive, 512 byte sector for legacy support, cool and quiet
Comment:
Hitachi really seems to have some reliable drives out right now. WD greens and seagate LP's are notorious for problems and people still buy em, i don't get it. These things seem quite solid. Only time will tell, and i will edit the review if they do every act up. Otherwise, great drives. Get some!

Hitachi Deskstar 5K300 2TB SATA3 32MB Cache 3.5IN Internal Hard Drive OEM
Cons: none

Pros: Extremely fast for a mechanical drive. Little heat & noise.
Comment:
Hitachi has been releasing solid drives lately. Added this to a previous cluster of Hitachi Drives that have been running perfectly for a year. SATA 3 really makes a difference! It definitely wont perform anywhere near as fast as an SSD but as a backup/media drive it performs very well.

Hitachi Deskstar 5K300 2TB SATA3 32MB Cache 3.5IN Internal Hard Drive OEM
Cons: None that I have found myself or heard of.

Pros: Fast (for an EcoDrive), works well with RAID, quiet, low heat, reliable, inexpensive
Comment:
I've had horrible luck with drives lately (5 dead 2TBs; 1 WD, 4 Seagate LPs ... and the WD never worked in the NAS anyways), but with these Hitachi drives, I have been thoroughly impressed. As a boot drive, don't expect any breakneck load speeds, but as a media drive / RAID drive, the sequential transfer speeds are quite astronomical (140MB/s read ... awesome). VERY quiet (quieter than my WD Green and Seagate LPs in both "spinning" noise, as well as seeking). Vibration from this drive is also very low; my Seagate was much worse ... the WDs are about the same .. this matters to me as my NAS doesn't have soft-mounted drives and is sitting within earshot. All in all, Hitachi drives have had their quality locked down for a long while (my 500GB has been dead silent and without problem for 2+ years), and the performance of the product is obviously up to snuff. Mine have played well for the time I have had them, and will be recommending them to friends most-definitely ... especially now that NCIX carries them.
