Intel 520 Series 120GB 2.5IN SSD MLC 25nm SATA3 Solid State Disk Drive Retail W/ Mounting Bracket
Cons:Not as fast as advertised speeds

Pros:Very Fast5 year warrantyplug it in and it works - no screwing around with it
Comment:
Much much faster than my old X25-M 80GB that I replaced for this. Still, read / write speeds aren't close to what is advertised - 3even though the advertised speeds indicate UP TO 500 MB/sec Seq read / write speeds. I'm getting (420 / 180) (read / write) speeds according to CrystalDiskMark. I have ACHI enabled in BIOS, which upped my speeds, but it's still not close to what others are reporting on the Net by using the same drive and same benchmark utility.

Intel 520 Series 120GB 2.5IN SSD MLC 25nm SATA3 Solid State Disk Drive Retail W/ Mounting Bracket
Cons:Slightly more expensive than competitors

Pros:Easy set upLightning fast read/write speeds5 year warrantyIntel Data Migration Software
Comment:
This is a really great drive. The read/write speeds are phenomenal. I upgraded from a 7200rpm 200GB HDD. Windows 7 boot time went from 40.8 seconds to 26.9 seconds. Loading Star Wars: The Old Republic went from over a minute to under 24 seconds! The Intel Data Migration tool made it extremely easy to swap the drives. It copies over the entire contents of the HDD, after it's finished you just unplug the old drive and reboot. It couldn't possibly have gone any smoother.I would recommend an Intel SSD to anyone looking to upgrade.

Comment:
This review is difficult to write as my experiences with this drive to date have been mixed. The first drive I received died after 40 minutes of use. I was preparing it for use in a 2009 MacBookPro and had it connected via a SATA to USB adaptor. At the time it died it was not doing anything - the existing drive was being partitioned, the SSD was powered on only. The SSD then simply stopped and killed the Disk Utility that was running on the other disk. I tried multiple times, but it never came back and when I hooked it up to my Dell Studio 540 it was never detected. NCIX were great and RMA'd it very quickly and sent a replacement. When the replacement arrived, the first thing I did was hook it up to the same Dell and just left for an hour or so doing nothing (literally powered up with the machine in the BIOS) to make sure it didn't die on arrival. During this period I had the SSD exposed and the room was virtually silent. There was an audible "mains hiss" coming from it. Not everyone can hear this, and you must have a very quiet room, but I mention it as some people in other SSD reviews ask about this as they are sensitive to the noise. So long as it is enclosed it should be fine - I've not heard it since it has been inside the MBP.After about an hour I transferred it to the MBP and proceeded to install OSX and test it out. To be honest I was a little apprehensive, but the OSX install went without issue in 15-20 minutes and later I was able to clone my old HDD to it without issue. After formatting there was ~119GB available for storage. The difference in the Mac has been amazing! Boot is faster, application launch is faster, basically anything that was bogging down before is blisteringly quick. I have not tried the TRIM Enabler yet, so cannot comment on TRIM usage, but it should be supported, and obviously it will work with Windows. It has made such a huge difference - previously I was spending many hours cursing the machine for being so slow, but not so much now. I have not tried any hugely intensive tasks yet (e.g. 30-40 image panorama stitching or Aperture work), but my usual tasks are much easier. Having Safari / Opera open in 1-2 seconds is definitely nice.In summary: right now I am not sure how reliable this drive will be. I may have been extremely unlucky with the first one, or there may be a bad batch, but the fact it died so hard and so badly does worry me. I have never lost a disk to the point that it is never recognised by the system before in over 15 years of building PCs. Right now, and with that in mind, I will rate it as a 3/5, however if I have no other issues and it is still working fine in 12 weeks time (and if I can), then I will increase the rating to 4/5 but still with the following advice:Anyone purchasing this drive should test it first before installing or committing data to it. At the very minimum you should power it up for an hour or so to ensure it does not die within the initial power on period, only then should you use it - but make sure you keep a decent backup!

Cons:- High price

Pros:- Near rated advertised read & write speeds- Extremely good benchmarks: Write speeds are a little higher than stock- Reliable life span & warranty
Comment:
- Near rated advertised read & write speedsMy benchmarks:- Tested write speeds are faster than the stock speeds by 1.54%- Tested read speeds are slower by 4.89%Currently (when the review was create d), the Sandforce firmware is not very reliable. Intel managed to create  Sandforce based firmware that is more reliable and slightly faster in write speeds.

Pros:-fast-reliable-5 year warranty-comes with mounting screws, 3.5" bracket, SATA cable, molex to SATA power adapter
Comment:
One of the best drives you can get right now in terms of speed vs reliability. Even though it's more expensive that other drives of the same capacity, I'd still choose Intel over the others. Uses a Sandforce controller with custom Intel firmware.Being used with a Gigabyte Z68XP-UD5. After a minor issue with a BIOS setting (disabling C3/C6) the drive now runs at around 550MB/s reads and 500MB/s writes.
