If only it would have worked. Low-cost construction, poor support. I took a chance trigger it was on sale, but these seriously do seem to be a 50኎ chance.

READ the manual 1st (knowing that "something is lost in the translation"). This SA-290 TVBox performs as described. The digital tuner is powerful and easily self-tuned to obtainable OTA frequencies if you have performed your "antenna" homework. In an apartment with a lot of windows I have built an array of amplified antennae which feed 5 Tv's. Two are new Television's and three are TVBoxes driving monitors. All are switchible Tv/Computer monitor the easiest of which is this KWorld. The others call for numerous button pushes--this one--one button--one push. By the way, the other boxes are XXxxXxxxx. (just as with the manual, read among the lines). No disparagement intended--they work well--just not as nicely as the SA-290. KWorld ought to have weighted the chassis. Not truly. With all the available connections, the cables move the Box about. Solution: Two-sided tape or "Scoot-Guard" shelf liner. As funds allow, I will purchase an additional SA-290 and also the model with HDMI output.

Newegg.com present the very best pice on this device i could find! Thanks Newegg. For the price, you get good pic top quality and the capability to convert your LCD monitor and older HD capable Tv's to work in 1080i mode. Once hooked up I was absolutely pleasantly shocked. The tiny small antenna that comes with the set leading box pulled in 27 digital more than air stations in the Philadelphia are from my BASEMENT! Item manual is particularly poorly written, and lacks clarity and adequate instruction. Took me a little whilst to figure out how to convert the signal to component out, vs. VGA out (factory default), so that I could use the device as a set leading box. There is a particular button on the remote that switches in between VGA and Component out.Remote and unit freezes on occasion. You have to cut off the energy, pull the plug, for the box to reset.Business web site is totally worthless. No support whatsoever. For the cost supplied it's not a bad deal for what it does. I have to appreciate now not getting a big electronic brick HD capable Tv without having an ATSC tuner..

Function's excellent when setup, the Tv Guide is incredible and the picture qaulity is incredible too. I have an HDTV that did not have a tuner built into it and all other goods had been 赨+ Took a couple minutes to get setup, the instruction manual wasn't all that valuable but immediately after playing about with the buttons on the controller I was able to get the unit up an operating.

Notion is great but documentation and connectors are not sufficient for the standard Tv intended for use with item. Not sufficient info in guide, no work-arounds for differing conditions. VGA connector apparently is intended for laptop or computer even although the directions say "no PC is needed." Without suitable VGA connction it is impossible to get Television video output.! Manufacturer's tech aid telephone quantity does not work either. I am returning it for refund, thnaks to NewEgg's return policy. Manufacturer says no refunds. Thank heaven for NewEgg!

Functions as advertised. VGA output top quality (using the maximum 1280x720) with 480p or greater digital signal is quite nice at this price point.1080i over component looks very good if you can't do 720p more than VGA.Supplied you avoid ground loop hum (plug the unit in to the very same power strip your audio amplification is plugged into), audio excellent seems quite decent. Defaults to video output more than VGA! You have to press a button on the remote to adjust output to component.Has a USB port, but only for playing streamed audio and JPEG, will not act as an external USB DTV tuner for a PC.Only stereo analog out for audio (meaning Dolby Pro Logic matrix surround at best).Menu navigation and startup are a small slow.Affordable construct good quality of both primary unit and remote.Suggested retail price is simply absurd, and inflated by the ุ federal DTV tuner rebate program that is now out of funds.Regular definition broadcasts converted to digital look poor, although this is most likely not the fault of the tuner as the Sharp 37" LCD (w integrated DTV tuner) in the living space also looks terrible on the exact same channels. Despite the large number of faults I've listed for this unit, it is a functional QAM DTV tuner with excellent video and audio quality. It's effortless to assume the tuner is DOA mainly because you (may) have to use the remote to switch the video output mode.

Price and appear of exterior, and that's exactly where the pros finish. Power comes on but won't go off. I tried all outputs VGA/Component and all I ever got was a blank screen. You have to toggle blindly via 6 potential settings to attempt to uncover the appropriate input/output combination. I never ever identified mine following triple checking all my cables. Also, screwing in the coaxial cable is truly difficult as the input is buried inside and there is no location exactly where the outside nut for the finish of coaxial cable can be turned to tighten it. All I want is 1080i HDTV from my cable companies more than the air channels. This Unit is supposed to give that and it failed. I returned it soon after various tries and concluding that what I received was defective.

Straightforward to connect.Passes by means of audio and video (VGA) even when powered off.Pass by way of is clean (no fuzz, sharp picture & sound) Receiver is not as sensitive as I had hoped.Signal strength indicator is overly optimistic. This ATSC digital Television tuner is good simply because you can use your PC/Workstation like standard even when it is powered off (pass via is automatic). On the other hand, even though I live about 20mi from my main Tv stations' transmit locations, and even although the signal meter indicated a full signal, the Tv playback was choppy. I purchased a powered/amplified antenna and now the reception is significantly far better. The funny factor is that the signal strength meter shows fewer bars too which probably indicates that the receiver is not extremely selective and that the amplified antenna has some filtering mechanism built in.Obtain this item if you want an simple Television addition to your PC/Monitor, but if you are anything but appropriate subsequent to your broadcast stations (or have cable) you will require an amplified or high gain antenna.

Very good picture, cost was reasonable. Poor documentation, poor create excellent. Purchased this converter box since it could output in 1080i. Acquiring the output to 1080i was a little tricky. Worked fairly well for a few weeks soon after it was received. Stopped outputting picture and needed to RMA, would be a very good item if it had far better directions and lasted longer.

None. Well the unit looks nice sufficient but that's about it. Very slow, buttons are confusing, weight of the cables will move the unit unless fixed somehow in the position you want, construction is poor, and so on... (there's a lengthy list of cons but I believe you get the point.) The very first unit I ordered was DOA so when I received the replacement unit it worked (sort of). I was dissapointed with the interface, settings menu, remote, delay when inputing commands (remote or unit), and channel choice. I live in NYC and I picked up a bunch of foregin stations, possibly four or five which had been actually local. Perhaps the fault of the antenna but I have a pretty powerful 1. Right after about a month of use the UNIT DIED ON ME!!!!. Fustrated with this I decided to cut my losses and throw it in the closet

Oddly, I found the user manual that was included with this unit incredibly straight forward. Whilst it does not have any troubleshooting ideas, it does clarify all the remote buttons, and the set up straight via.As often, Newegg had it to me in three days from date of purchase. My unit does not output video. I have tried making use of component cables to my component in on my 1080i Television. The Television does not detect any signal at all. I tested the input on the television with a DVD player, employing the identical cables and it worked fine.I also attempted using the monitor (VGA) out to my Samsung monitor, it too did not detect a signal. I'm fairly confident my unit is DOA, even though it does power on. Going to try a couple of more test ahead of beginning the RMA approach. I wasn't expecting anything spectacular from this unit, but it is frustrating that it doesn't work at all. Possibly I am missing one thing, but I doubt it.

Free of charge shipping... one way at least. Exactly where to start? Only presents 1024x768 or 720p output via VGA port. Doesn't scale, stretch or zoom at all, neither up, nor down, so you're watching just about everything on a tiny fraction of your monitor. 16ɍ content is displayed as distorted fourɇ in "full" mode, at about 1ǘ size in "letterbox" mode. No capacity to manually set time/date. In spite of getting de-selected, captions are on by default whenever altering channels. Horrible digital artifact (colored blocking / freezing) on any station broadcast in 720p or higher res... this with full signal strength on either ATSC or clear QAM, on very same cable as a different perfectly functioning tuner. Even the package fell apart when loading it up for return--- loaded the tuner & remote in the leading tray, bottom fell out, dumping everything out. If you acquire this soon after reading the dozens of properly-founded negative reviews here, the joke's on you, as it was on me. I ought to know better. So ought to you This is far and away the WORST so-called HD tuner I've tried. Even with their large technique overhead and garbage software program, your average USB stick runs circles about this in each and every way. If this expense 1ǚ-1Ǚ of what it goes for now, it may well be a valuable toy if you get pleasure from watching all Normal-def content displayed on a smaller fraction of your monitor. Beware of free of charge shipping offers-- they seem to be offered on merchandise you're likely to pay to ship back in disgust.

Inexpensive DOA. This appears to be typical for these either on arrival they are dead or inside a couple of months. I am returning mine and learning my lesson. I should have ALL of the reviews prior to purchasing. The superior one plus the poor ones. I would not have ordered it if half had been doa.

Capabilities for the cost. Remote is not the most intuitive. This tuner is worth the money if all you need to have is a tuner. I tested it just before deciding that I want a tuner w/DVR functionality, so I need to upgrade to one thing else. With the standard antenna I got all the major network channels, plus a few a lot more. With my old cable provider (non-subscribed) wire I also got about 12 channels, even so in clearer HD. I have not tested the VGA out connection, only component. The remote too some experimentation but the manual was helpful. It took me a a minute or two to understand I needed to press the output choice button on the remote a _couple_ times to cycle to the component outputs. Some buttons override (like the USB port) the output choice, so you need to have to re-choose if you hit USB accidentally. Also it took me a bit to realize the default component resolution was not 480p, but 720p (I'm now happily running 720p and life is very good).

Excellent high quality video when it worksQAMTiny size Intermittent shutdownBadly placed Component & Stereo outputsPoorly laid our remote - have to refer to the manual a lot of times to figure out what is what I bought this unit pretty much back in February of this year. Picture top quality is pretty superior-in particular neighborhood HD channels. Following couple of weeks of use, it began to "freeze up" intermittently-the power led used to be lit, but the video & audio disappeared. The only way to bring it back to life was to pull out the power and put it back in. Not a large deal initially since it applied to occur perhaps once each and every week. After a month or so, it began to freeze up pretty much every day. Because I was past the return period, I just dealt with it.Today, it is set to 1 channel and any button I hit on the remote or the physical device is producing it lose the audio and video(with flickering audio and video on and off). It's surely not the PC/TV nor the resolution button problem. I can watch only 1 channel that it is set to perfect now.

Enjoying 576p 69" 16ɍ display on EPSON 82c with the kWorld SA290 as the tuner. On game days, the projector and kWorld are set up together. With a seating to screen distance of 10 feet, this arrangement supplies as much resolution as can be discerned by 1 with near 20ተ vision. In other words, 1080p is excellent close up, but beyond 7 or 8 ft, 1 loses sight of the fine detail anyway. The kWorld is part of a low price answer to the expense of a huge HDTV, especially if you have access to a XGA or WXGA projector already. My kWorld continues to work reliably. Plan to watch the NFL Conference title games and Superbowl in the upcoming weeks. The mating of the VGA connection is not fairly correct for the securing screws to line up. If it continues to work nicely for a few years, it will bridge the gap although we determine when and how major the HDTV upgrade will be.

1) Good reception2) Excellent Picture 1) IR sensor for remote not quite sensitive2) Clunky design with cables on the side of the unitthree) Couple of output formats for VGA4) Stereo jack sound output WARNING: Check which resolutions your Television supports!!!! This box does 1280x720 ྰɍ) & 1024x768 Ɣɇ) via VGA (you're excellent on component)... THATS IT. If your monitor documentation doesn't do 1280x720 then forget true high definition. I have to watch HD in 4ɇ ratio and adjust my screen size. This box is not fantastic, but for 50 or 60 dollars you're not losing your shirt like on a 赊 box for OTA! So take it for what its worth. Its just ok. Just be sure and do your analysis before you obtain it to make sure you are finding what you think you're obtaining. When I watch the SUperbowl you best believe I will be employing my component cables on it. Otherwise I dont care. Don't be afraid of all the negative *technical* reviews. I dont know how they had so significantly trouble setting it up. Its no harder than setting up a DVD player. You may have to switch an input! If that is too heady for you then dont get it.

It works. HD and SD channels come in fine. Marked improvement from analog broadcast Manual - Horrid, on-line docs are non existant. Why did they even waste paper on it. You invest more time on trial & errorDesign- Cables on back and side, messy design for suited for pc/mac use not for property unit. Menu- No alternative for setting time, just region. Some channels have appropriate date/time other people range for years 1914-2035. No option to turn off screen data when flipping channels or having it in a much more discreet location as opposed to filling half the screen. Most of the time it posts no information as opposed to program information.Misc-Occasionally switches to a gray screen where nothing can reset it until you disconnect the power. Happened many times, can't decide a pattern I don't though this is a function of the box or the cable business, hence I'm putting this in other thoughts, but the channel mappings are off. With original cable/tv setup (no cable box) the channel mapping were correct (In NYC CH2 was CBS, CH4 was NBC etc) now it is not the case

This TV box is being used daily with a older plasma TV that has only an analog tuner. It works reliably and predicatively. It could use a few updates to make it nicer: 1. There is no manual method to remove or add channels. Only auto-scanned channels available. 2. It is slow to boot up and respond to some commands. 3. Program descriptions are only available for the current selected channel. It would be nice to have a search-able grid like on cable and satellite services. 4. The remote has a narrow position range for the box to recognize the signal.
