LIAN LI PC-Q08B Black Computer Case
Comment:
Build top quality is phenomenal. Easy, but attactive with the Q08B Black anodizing. 5.25" bay does not need removal of the optical drive face plate for operation. Plenty of area for HDD storage. Small size vs amount of storage it can retain. Tends to make the greatest out of airflow for its size. QUIET. Blue and red LED are not blinding. Inside aluminum construction is not deadly like you'll discover w/ several instances. Ideal for a server or possibly a larger HTP box but I wouldn't place it in a shelving unit. I was in a position to install 6 HDDs, 1 optical drive, and in between the PSU and Motherboard was the ideal house and 2 aligning screws for a Intel SSD. so eight drives into this box plus airflow. I'M SOLD. I would like to say value, but this is my 1st Lian Li and clearly you're acquiring what you paid for. Very impressed.Significant lack of tooless style. My five.25 optical just failed. I have to get rid of the three.five" bay cage to even factor about moving optical about. The vibration insulators (rubber gromets) for the bay screws are a first class PITA, but then once again it makes every thing near silent. I bought this b/c I wanted a file server for my home while nonetheless utilizing my stack of TB drives. This was about the only cost effective remedy. It truly confused me how persons identified this case to be too big. The 7 bay configuration really should have been at least a bit of an alarm to them that it could be "bigger" than other sff boxes. I'm shocked how they packed anything into this case and kept it as efficent it is with it's size. I uncover it anything but big. Will it match your house theater components...NO. They place some style function on the switches so they're not blinding...THANK YOU. Even the 6 screws that hold the side panel on are color matched and the sides panels are even counter sunk. Quite desirable case. BUT, plan your create and place it together once, since it's a PITA to perform on esp. immediately after you spent all that time cable routing. This case will be the cause I try other Lian Li instances.

As you would count on the create high quality is typical Lian Li great and it looks supper clean and sleek once you eliminate the LED fan. The AL optical drive cover is seriously completes the look of the case and easy to setup.Functionality is also fairly impressive. There is room for 6 challenging drives which appears a bit unlikely for iTX but the selection is there. There is also area for a complete length and two slot deep graphics card so you could very easily make a tiny high performance gaming program. With a 140mm intake and 120mm exhaust cooling is also exceptional.Fans and tough drives are also soft mounted.USB three. on the front panel is a nice touch. The fans themselves are pretty smooth and quiet, even the LED fan. Nothing right here is seriously show stopper but they are worth mentioning. The 6 tiny screws used to secure the side panel is truly baffling and offers no advantage that I can see over Lian Li's old thumbscrew on the back approach. The screws are tiny and simple to loose as properly as fragile so if you don't apply a lot of downward force in a straight manner or if you use the wrong size screw driver you will effortlessly stripe the screw. The front fan filter is a very good notion but to access it you have to go through the tedious procedure of removing all 6 screws to take away the side panel so in my thoughts the filter is useless.USB three. on the front panel is certainly a plus but the cables are way too lengthy and bulky to pass through the tiny flimsy PCI bracket. The bracket is bracket itself is also only secured on the top rated of the bracket so the bottom is just floating loose. The cable really should also be terminated with a motherboard connection by default, not the external connection. You will want to strategy your PSU alternative meticulously. As other people have stated there isn't considerably room for cable management so you will either want a modular PSU or one thing in lower wattage class that isn't going to come with a ton of connections.Personally I would have rather noticed a 120mm fan up front as those are simpler to discover replacements for than 140s (I generally swap out for greater top quality fans).

Comment:
No will need to comment on the develop good quality - it is a Lian Li case so you know what to expect. Air flow is phenomenal for such a small location. Both fans are quiet by stock case fan standards and the front fan is extremely effortless to eliminate and clean (decent filter good quality). Paint finish is genuinely good and uncomplicated to preserve (keep finger print cost-free). Ventilation is fantastic for a PCIe video card, mine stays at 50C almost all the time (while gaming). There is so substantially space inside this tiny case: I was able to fit a complete sized video card, complete sized energy supply, and have plenty of space for cables and nonetheless allow for fantastic airflow. Installation was a breeze, specifically with the modular energy supply bracket. Just make confident you follow the directions for installing a disk drive, it can be a little tricky. The only thing to be concerned about with this case is the tiny hardware. While it looks good with the decor of the case, they strip incredibly very easily. Make sure you have a screw driver with a lot of depth so you don't mess up the screw heads (the paint comes off seriously very easily too). I would suggest a modular power supply to maintain down on cable clutter simply because it is simple to blow the intake fan. Operating energy to the video card can be a small tricky depending on where the connectors are located and how long the card is. Almost everything about this case is best. I had been preparing a mini-ITX gaming rig for almost a year, searching and searching for the correct case. This case fit the bill in each way. My existing rig is running quicker and cooler than my last one particular in a micro-ATX case. Remarkable! The case is a fantastic size and nicely layed out. For the size the features can't be beat! The removable 2 difficult drive bay at the bottom to make room for larger video cards is a fantastic style. I don't seriously mind the truth that, for the most part the case isn't a tool-much less style. My biggest beef is how tight the screws were for the door pannels and the optical drive tray from the factory. Practically had to strip them to get them out. Consists of USB 3. front pannel!

Ư: I can use all 6 SATA connector on my SuperMicro Mini-ITX server board. Ư: Regular ATX PSU.Ư: 120mm and 140mm fan. Massive fan indicates much less RPM necessary for the similar quantity of air flow, which means much less noise. -5: The sound of all 6 difficult drive vibrating at similar time was killing me! It's not loud in term of db, but the low frequency humming produced in this low density aluminum case that weighs only 6 lb was just annoying.

Good ITX case. The fit and finish is wonderful. It has to be the best case I have ever applied. I've been building computers for more than 15yrs and by no means heard of Lian Li, but all my builds will be Lian Li from now on. Too bad I bought an additional ITX case prior to I found this one. Plenty of space for all my stuff. Difficult to think that this box replaced my full size ATX case and its much less than 1ǘ the size. Case is well ventilated and quiet for my demands. In fact my NAS is louder than this case. Be patient putting this case together. There are a lot of smaller screws. The blue fan is a bit annoying, but does the job.

Nearly there as a perfect Mini-ITX case.PC-Q07 was a step in proper direction but it was a bit awkward searching.PC-Q08 gets to proper dimensions for Mini-ITX case.Full size ATX PSU.All that combined with most recent Lian-Li style functions are a huge PROS. Speaking from experience of quite a few builds utilizing Liam-Li cases. Cons:Only one external bay. More on that in "other thoughts" All case manufacturers share exact same oversight whilst designing little cases, primarily Mini-ATX. They go for smallest doable size sacrificing full size ATX PSU along the way. This is where PC-Q08 gets two thumbs up. It may possibly not be smallest out there but it is modest sufficient but also make much more sense then the actual dwarfs. One more oversight is that we are experiencing major shift in storage:A. disks of 2TB capacity obtainableB. SSD adoptionC. continuing want for media readers (SD cards)D. continuing need to have for optical discThis is where PC-Q08 and everybody else falls brief:Why 6 internal disk bays ? 4 will be additional then a lot and space saved could be utilized for "media reader".The way it is now I will need to make a sacrifice/choice:Optical disk or media reader ?Come on Lian-Li, you can do it !Make PC-Q09 with 2 or 4 (no far more) slots for disks and give two full height external bays rather of 1.I will obtain in a heart beat and additional then 1 !

The heralded and significantly anticipated Q08, successor to the Q07. Length for the most effective GPUS. Room to store numerous HDDs. Can fit a full size ATX PSU. On the larger finish for an ITX case, could have made it smaller. My MAtx case is about the size of this 1. There is a specific itx case in the works that can fit a full size psu and gpus that is smaller than this 1, but this is currently the finest on the market now. It has come!

Good case for the most component The hinge that holds the optical drive door is produced out of quite tiny pieces of plastic that break. I broke mine whilst assembling the computer system. I expected something greater because the rest of the case is fantastic.

Its a cute little box. Little to tuck in the corner somewhere. If there was a energy supply that is 1ቬ the size of a regular power supply, this would be a fantastic case. Initially, the case arrived via UPS in its original box. Which I genuinely don't like - picture this: UPS drops off the case when you are gone.....It looks like a brand new computer system sitting outside your residence! Now thats an invite for a thief! Ok, back to the evaluation. The case box was pretty banged up. The CD/DVD cover was BROKE. Issues had been shaking about inside. I just emailed Lian Li and told them of the scenario and requested a new cd/dvd cover. If they refuse, its going back to newegg....in its original box. Now to the install. I bought this to serve as a server (home server). I put in a power supply, two HDs and 1 cd/dvd (leaving the broken component out). It was Extremely PAINFUL. There is just NO ROOM! I had to take out the energy supply to get to the mainboard. I also had to take out the difficult drives (after almost everything was installed). If this is a "Set it and forget it" board, you will only suffer minor frustration. If you are like me and always swapping/adding/removing parts (Continuted cons) you will have a headache. Also, the case is quite flimsy. NOt solid at all. With all the components taking up so a lot space, I don't see how any airflow can exist. The powersupply just takes up so a lot room. That stated, now every little thing is installed and it looks good. It is very little - exactly what I wanted for a server (with a 8 bay raid box sitting subsequent to it). But if LIan LI does not wish to send me the broken portion, I will have a smile on my face when I send the case back to newegg. Oh, and the USB front ports - they are exterior ports. They contain interior ports, but then the cables are about 2 feet long. Also the screws are really, incredibly smaller and they don't give you any extras. I also replaced that silly blue fan in the front - that is so 2008.

1 of the few tiny form factor cases that can hold 6 2.five" tough drives. Good and small taking into consideration how numerous drives it can hold. Has typical Lian-Li high quality, case is extremely sturdy, additional than adequate to hold the weight of a method with 6 drives. Having to take out six screws to remove the side panel is kind of a discomfort. Would be nice if the panel could be much more very easily removed like quite a few of the other Lian-Li circumstances. There are mounting holes for a 2.five" drive instantly below the five.25" bay. I haven't verified this, but it appears that you can nonetheless fit one thing in the 5.25" bay at the identical time. Method draws ㅾW when idle, and that's with 6 three.five" drives and a single two.5" drive, and it is inaudible in my room.

It fits 6x 3.five inch HDD inside along with standard size CD-ROM drive. It fits Mini-ITX board effortlessly. It would fit a "wide" Mini-ITX board like Supermicro X7SPE type.Nice fit and finish for case. Typical of Lian-Li items.Blue power LED is embedded in power switch. LED is not horribly vibrant. Front RESET button is flush-mounted to panel so it would take some effort to accidently push it. Have to take apart pretty much all of the insides to cleanly install something with some space to work. Not bad sufficient to take off an egg.Took 1 egg off for this: Internal cables from front panel have good length but that causes an problem with packing them into the case. Front panel USB ports have internal cable that terminate in USB connector like that utilised with external drives. An added adaptor to "pin cushion" header is included, but that is even additional cable to pack into the case.Supplied case fans are only 3-pin style and appear like decent good quality; I've observed better and I've observed worse. Replaced top case fan with 4-pin 120mm fan without problems. Supplied grille (nice touch) for top fan lines up with 120mm fan screw holes. Front fan is simply replaced. Fan issues are not poor sufficient to take an egg off for this. Only has 4 fixed mounts for motherboard.Use of screws on side panels not an issue for me. 4-drive mounting case utilizes 1 thumb screw; quickly removed. Bottom 2-drive mount uses four screws thru case bottom.Have not yet tested case for air flow and operating temperature with Supermicro X7SPA board.Mounting of energy supply looks beneficial: PSU mounts to mounting plate that can be reversed if necessary. With PSU mounted it gets quite "snug" inside the case.Pictures on Lian-Li web page and on Newegg "don't due justice" to how packed the case insides will be with every little thing mounted.Would look at getting Lian-Li items once more.

The top quality of the case is far better than your average case. The paint job is better than most other cases that are spray painted on. Good clean finish and enough room for a lot of issues. LED on the energy and HDD buttons are nice, while too vibrant for my taste so I have them unplugged. Doesn't look low-cost like a lot of other circumstances. Lightweight for aluminum. Superior amount of airflow going throughout the case. Good front fan filter to maintain dust out. Looks minimal and clean, in contrast to a lot of other ridiculously created circumstances. Too a lot of screws on each sides of the case and no extra screws in case you loose 1. I dropped one of these and given that they're so tiny, I can't appear to locate it. The way the PSU is mounted is a bit awkward. The optical drive bay cover is very brittle. I received the case with it broken from delivery but decided to maintain the case and just eliminate the cover altogether.

set up my NAS/media server. I created a youtube video even though I installed stuff, check it out! What i enjoy: you never feel cramped since your hands virtually never have to get into the box!- PSU and drive cage slide in/out. mobo screw to the panel that also comes out. so you hook up all the wires whilst everything is somewhat slided out and slide them back in when you're carried out! your hands by no means have to get into the cage- quietness: really good aluminum/rubber feet. rubber contacts for drive mounting to minimize vibration.- airflow: with two large fans. perforated all over which includes the bottom, drive cages. - looks: brushed aluminum all over, nice thick aluminum alloy inside the case. - hardware: good thumb screws in several locations. extra screws included. 2.five" fitting included. the drive cage only takes 1 thumbscrew and it's a good 1 that won't come off when you unscrew. - comes with an extra back plate for usb3 connector to slip in. the CDROM door hindge is a tiny piece of plastic and it came down when I attempted to handle it. I barely poked at it. I don't need to have the door anyway, so I taped it shut.the outside case screws are truly nice tiny black screws that matches the case, but it also means you can't use common case thumbscrews. the USB3 connector takes up way too significantly room. I fully grasp an external USB connection in front panel is necessary for USB3, so they did it this way. factors fit so nicely that you need to make sure all screws goes on loose before tightening them all. Make sure you got every thing working before you slide all sides in.

This is my second PC-Q08B case. In the first PC-Q08B case, I replaced the 2 case fans with noctua fans and I had a nice quiet case. With the second case, I decided to try out the lian-li fans and as expected they are noisier. What I didn't expect was for the 140mm fan to tick. Good case, not so good fans. As with my first case, I'll be replacing the fans with noctua fans.

LIAN LI PC-Q08B Black Computer Case
Cons: 5.25 drive bay stealth cover required some work to remove in order to install my system monitor. No black screws for the PSU mount-plate. I wish it came with a red LED 140mm instead of a blue one, but that's entirely personal aesthetics.

Pros: Surprisingly roomy and easy to work with (remove both side panels and your build with be extremely easy, although a modular PSU is still a wise choice), great build quality throughout, anti-vibration HDD mounting, plenty of screws included, decent fans (not silent by any means, but not loud either while still moving a decent amount of air), good airflow design, would fit a long graphics card if you're so inclined.
Comment:
I filled mine with an Intel Atom, PCI raid card, and 6 HDDs. Makes a great FreeNAS box, especially when PM'd for $100! If I were to build a lanbox this would be my first choice too, given the GFX card possibilities and excellent air-flow. The build quality was excellent throughout, typical Lian-Li: lightweight yet durable, and a superb blend of form and function.
