MSI 880GM-E41 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
Comment:
This MSI micro packs quite a punch for such a little board. It has plenty of expansion selections and it's too complicated to navigate about the board, even in such a tiny region. It's FSB is fast, it's got capacity for 16GB of RAM, and a lot of SATA and PCIe spaces for taking this AM3 upwards to the year 2020. The directions had been a bit generic, and the very vital points to note had been lost amid the images, figures, and standard specs. Honestly, if one thing is extremely essential to note (such as producing certain not to use any added brass connectors, producing sure all your ATX is plugged in appropriately, and so on.) it really should be put in bold, in a shader box, and made really apparent, not merely asterisked at the beginning of a footnote on a page. The board is also incredibly crunched, and as soon as you have particular points plugged into it, you no longer can access board features; for instance, if you have any intention of OC'ing the board, make sure to do it just before you add a graphics card, since it will cover your switches.Lastly, it only came with one IDE and 1 SATA cable, which means if you are acquiring OEM drives, you will need to have to make sure to purchase some additional cables for them. Ultimately, the cons are fairly weak in the lengthy haul. If you install the board correct, don't mind the modest space, and have spare cables laying around, this board is ideal.

Inexpensive - Got it as a comboWorked first time when I turned on my newly built AMD X6 1055. As noted by others, burnt smell right after I tried to overclock. The board went dead. MOSFET's in these affordable boards can\'t take any improve in CPU voltage. I known as MSI's client service. They got defensive. I emailed their client service. Don't bother. They by no means replied. I even forwarded the e-mail to the VP's but no one responded. This was in Jan. 2011. I finally went back to my trustworthy ASUS MOBO's. Be forewarned. Stay away if you want to overclock this MSI MOBO. I wasted a week playing about with a dead MSI board. Paired it with a 555, effortless oc and unlock functions, and relatively uncomplicated install. It has just what I required, onboard graphics just fine for common use, and good and fast. Not a ton of expansion capacity, but genuinely, this is a perfect board for a uncomplicated to mid level gamer. If you want a lot more than a 4250 then you can do so still, and if developing an 8x hd monster or a 5x optical drive, what are you undertaking seeking at a micro ATX anyways? This 1 hit the sweet spot for me, good abilities, a nice 880 set with excellent (if not enormous amounts of) expansion available, and a great value.

Straightforward to use, Though I preserve servers I have in no way attempted to unlock a cpu ahead of, nor have I looked into it. This board created it super uncomplicated - was in a position to unlock my Athlon II X3 435 into a Phenom II X4 B35 by just turning on 2 choices without having even reading the manual.Lots of tweaking selections for overclocks. Lack of USB3. Confusing OC Genie and OC switch, I have no idea what distinction they are..sounds like redundant feature. Wish it had either USB ports or LPT port instead of PSǘ ports. I know a lot folks with ancient printers that are nonetheless operating fine. But who nonetheless utilizes PSǘ anyway?

Good size/form factor.Lots of legacy connectivity (COM, PSǘ, and so on)Plenty of expansion slots for a Micro ATX board.On-board GPU is fine for non-gaming use. Got a BSOD as soon as, but appears to be running OK now. Not certain why I got a BSOD, I haven't looked at the dump yet.Northbridge/GPU gets pretty toasty whilst transcoding HD video. I have a case fan blowing directly on it, but it nonetheless gets up more than 60C.

MSI, fired right up as usual. Runs good & cool w/my x4 955 be. OC switch is great. 1 click and I'm at 3.6 mhz., and thats just the very first setting. Too effortless, really like it. Temps are all wonderful. Took off 1 egg due to the fact 9800gtx covers up OC switch when installed, could have been laid out a little bit much better, just kind of annoying having to remove the card to get to the switch. I guess I'll just go into bios as usual for OC to prevent removing the GPU, but man that switch is easy.I've always had great luck w/msi, they had been my initially develop in 03, and that board is nonetheless running for a buddy, just can't kill them. Carried out 6-7 since, and all have gone well, not best, but great.

Little footprint. Exceptional efficiency from built-in ATI video adapter. A lot of SATA connections. One PATA port, no SPDIF port but I already knew that prior to I purchased. This board has almost everything you would want for the funds. I matched it to an AMD Athlon X2 Regor 3 GHz CPU and 4 GB of Essential PC1066 dual channel technique memory kit. So far really stable. It came correct up soon after installing it.Extremely fast and flexible board. Netflix streams look smooth and aren't choppy at all.

Received two of these lately as DIY combo's. Each sytems are identical and fired suitable up operating Win7 Ultimate. Very stable board, overclocking using the on-board dipswitches is way cool and so significantly easier than using the included software program or messing with the BIOS settings. Running both sytems at 20% overclocked (max board setting) (from two.8GHz to 3.36GHz) and have not had 1 single problem with heat, lockups or BSOD.Excellent board for low budget House Server, HTPC or plain old desktop client. 1. No DVI connectortwo. On-board video is just...eh3. Software more than-clocking utility is cheesy4. Lack of SLI or CF support5. Only came with 1 SATA cable All in all a decent board, would get a different for a low budget develop.

Seems like a wonderful board. Effectively laid out, uncomplicated to work on. No startup issues. This board has 1 key difference from all the other MSI 880GM boards: the LAN controller is Atheros rather of RealTek. For most uses that must be totally acceptable, but Atheros LAN chips do not function with unRAID servers. Had to return board and purchase the 880GM-E43 rather. Didn't want to dock the board's rating for a mistake I produced in purchasing, but it is odd that it's the only board in this range with out the RealTek chip

It works, and is performing a decent job. Plenty of connection choices with such a small board. Onboard Video works, but doesn't deal with newer games nicely. (Granted it is onboard video, so no eggs off for it.) Unlocking took a number of reboots to show, and additional than a couple of looks through the included foldout poster to make sure I did it right. Core unlocking seems to be an all or absolutely nothing affair, as I can't locate how to only unlock one core to decrease heat. (See below) Anxiety testing with Prime95 had to be cut brief due to insufficient cooling, as soon as I get a better cooler I can retest to make certain all cores are stable. (If they aren't, it isn't the fault of the board, but the all or absolutely nothing nature of unlocking cores leaves me with a dual core that could be much more...)
