NORCO RPC-230 2U Rackmount Server Case
Comment:
This case fits perfectly into my 16 inch deep enclosure. It met fairly a lot each and every specification I was after: ATX power supply, mATX board, low cost and spots for a lot more than 4 hard drives. I get pleasure from the USB port on the front. The two fans at the front are loud. This case is in an enclosure in a furnace room in a basement. I could still hear them upstairs. Sounds like it's time for a fan controller. Cable Management is a skill you'll have to great. Maintain the PATA drives to a minimum. It would be extremely difficult to use this case with out SATA's smaller cables. Power cables are bundled into a extremely organized bus.

-low cost!-utilizes a standard ps2 power supply-sturdy create high quality-comes with important hardware-superior airflow through case -Noisy fans-screws appear quite fragile - heads strip simply-not a case you want to open and close frequently For the dollars, a great case. the fan noise is what I would expect from this price point. plenty of room for 4 HD inside. The external drive bay is really tight unless a brief drive is utilized. As with all 2U cases I've encountered working with a PS2 power supply, one with a flow through style is will need. A big side mounted fan will not function in this case. Also vital, I identified no sharp edges to slice my skin, superior than I expected in an affordable case. For my install, i didn't need the rack handles. They had been quickly removed. To make the face lower corner screws flush with side right after the handles are removed, countersink the holes. Feet or rubber bumpers can simply be added to base if desired as the bottom is flat and solidThis server that lives in this case is getting applied as a neighborhood server running Ubuntu Server with xampp for internet style. So far observed internal temperatures are nicely inside a normal range - no overheating.

Compact and sturdy case with a great layout. I built a property server utilizing a Supermicro X7SLA-H motherboard. The board is good and modest so I had a lot of room. Fans in the front blow across the appropriate side HDDs and the motherboard. Shock isolation of some kind would be a good touch for the tough drives, but at the price I can't complain. Besides it is a rackmount case so the challenging drives shouldn't get a lot of banging around. I would use this case once more.

NORCO RPC-230 2U Rackmount Server Case
Comment:
It's the cheapest 2U server case I could find. I required to get five of these to house some VIA VB8001 based servers. Construct excellent is fair. Takes a normal PSU - though it needs to be one that does not have a fan on the bottom. I'm using Antec EA380D - they function wonderful. Compatible with the low cost Rosewill 26" rails (though I feel the 20" ones might have fitted my server rack too). They fit mini-itx motherboards fine. They are produced of steel and fairly powerful. The fans. Very a few just didn't work. I'm replacing them all now - mainly because I don't trust them. Front panel LEDs - I have a couple of HD ones that just don't work. Case design is somewhat awkward. Replacing the fans is a discomfort - need to take off the entire front of the case - 8 screws. Also the leading is affixed with 4 tiny screws that don't fit too effectively. The back is deeply recessed (can't guess why they did this) and I use an additional dual port nic - finding the cables in and out of it tricky. Two unique styles of handles amongst the five units I bought. The paint is very poor and very easily scratched. For all my gripes I have these set up and they are now working fine. The expense rapidly adds up when you add sliding rails, a decent PSU and new fans, but I nonetheless haven't found something cheaper. If you're reading this evaluation then I'd assume you're in the market place for a affordable case - and I would recommend it - supplied you are prepared to function around the cons.

it has terrific airflow from the front two 80mm fans and is excellent for it's price. the manage are created out of plastic but they hold strong. its also been by way of alot of abuse with me and have had no difficulty with it at all, also holds wonderful in a rack whilst fully loaded and only with the front mounts the front fans are about to go out and have had the case for about a year. to install the hdd's you have to fiddle with two smaller screws. no main difficulties though, oh had to move a few standoffs but who doesnt? its a fantastic case for its cost, im going to acquire much more, i even purchased an additional case from these guys. its definatly worth the income even if its not a server or just require one more case, keeps actually cold. i use it for my proxie server on our network.

Superior case for the price. I like the look of it, specially the power/reset buttons and the indicator lights. My motherboard did not have headers for the NIC LEDs so i created one. I traced out where the actual network traffic LEDs get their signal, cut the trace and rerouted it to some headers. Now i can see the network visitors on the front of the case. Loud fans, I did the ř volt mod" to them. Eliminate the power pin from the molex connector and move it the the opposite side, that way they run off of 5v instead of 12. Much less air flow but much less noise too.I installed a 4x20 LCD pannel in the five.25" bay and it took some manufacturing to get it mounted. the bay is created for DVD/hard drives with mounting holes on the bottom of them. Who expects stock fans to be very good?

Bought this case to use for a iTX motherboard for a WHS rig. Took the rackmount ears off, and it looks just like any other audio component box. Takes a regular ATX power supply, and itx or matx motherboard. Simply supports 4 regular hard drives, and could hold far more in the DVD bay behind the PS. I'm only employing one fan (of two), and in all probability don't want that for an itx motherboard. Construct quality is pretty great, much better than I was expecting. Fans are a bit noisy, but not a issue in my storage closet.

The the price of this chassis is a good deal for what you get. Takes a standard PSU.Not deep like other server chassis. A small bit of a close one on the ram and one of the HDD bays. If I have to populate all four ram slots I will have to lose a drive bay. This case was perfect for my project. I was able to get all four HDD and DVD-RW drive in. Others have complained about the fan noise. I would have to say I can\'t hear this server at all over my Proliant DL320 in my rack. So this is not as loud as other servers. Make positive you don't get ram with significant heat spreaders on them.

NORCO RPC-230 2U Rackmount Server Case
Cons:Installation

Pros:Small4 HDD BaysPrice
Comment:
For my first server chasis, the Norco unit was both challenging and eye opening at the same time. It provided everything you would expect from a server case in a tight packaging. All standard (intel and amd) heatsinks should clear the height of the case as the case has ample amount of room for low profile heatsinks + fans. One of the biggest challenges is wiring. A standard ATX power supply works, but it is impossible to effectively close the case if you loaded it to the brim with HDDs.In the future I might opt for smaller or a modular power supply for this.

NORCO RPC-230 2U Rackmount Server Case
Cons:none

Pros:Small compact sizeEasy to assembleGreat Price
Comment:
This is my 2nd RPC-230 and I love this case. It is very easy to install regular non-server class hardware. The only things you need to be careful of is that your components will fit. CPU + heatsink is not too high, PCI cards must be low profile and power supply needs to have vents in the front not the bottom. As soon as I need another server case I'll be buying another one of these.
