Got a great deal on this switch, finally moving my LAN to Gigabit with jumbo frames!Like another person, mine has no gap between the ports, and the LEDs are at the top each port. The only thing I would have wanted are the ports to be on the back with the power plug, so that I don't have a jumble of wires around this thing. |

Everything I want in an affordable switch. The one that shipped is actually more compact than the one pictured here, i.e., there is no gap between ports 4 & 5 and there is very little space to the left of port 1. Slim box which allows smart data transfer between computers on network, although only has 8 ports, it's sufficient for a small office |

Netgear ProSafe 8-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch
Cons:Ports on the front.
Pros:Solidly built unit. Performs as expected. Comment:
Nice metal case on this makes it feel like it's well constructed. No complains with the switch so far. It's performing well with jumbo frames enabled. Only change I would make to the design is to put the ports on the back while keeping the LEDs on the front. Nice product. |

Pros:Good speedsSolid construction90 degree power-brickjumbo-frames Comment:
In general, a switch is a switch. However, I had to replace a dlink gigabyte with this due to undervolting resetting the switch. This unit has no such problems and is constructed using meta rather than the plastic of most switches.l |

Netgear ProSafe 8-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch
Cons:Ethernet ports on different side from power cord
Pros:SmallQuietJumbo frames Comment:
If this doesn't die one me, then it'll be a very worthwhile investment for the LAN parties that I host. In a group of 15 randoms, atleast half will have gigabit on the motherboard so this switch is the right size. |

Pros:Quiet, fast Comment:
Not much you can say about a switch. It supports jumbo packets and gigabit LAN. The auto sensing cable type (cross over or straight through) is a bonus. |

Netgear ProSafe 8-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch
Cons:Might be more than some will pay
Pros:Relatively CheapFull Gigabit8 portHeavy GoodQuiet OperationLow Temperature Operation Comment:
Bought 2 of these to be used at a personal lan party, sped up transfers quite a bit and allowed for lesser lag than normal. Good investiment for if you have a lot of computers you transfer large files to on a regular basis. Not much more that I can say Zargon hasnt 5/5 |

Netgear ProSafe 8-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch
Cons:- does not seem to support jumbo packets
Pros:++ quiet (no fan)+ small (1"x4"x11.3")+ black+ 10/100/1000+ autosenses for cross-over or straight cable (i.e. use any CAT 5 cable you have)+ steel case+ 8 ports+ 5 year warranty (2 on external power brick)+ wall mountable Comment:
This thing is quiet. Thankfully!I'm using it with all 8 ports in operation, some at 10Mb, some at 100Mb and most at 1Gb and it has worked flawlessly from the day I got it. And no, it doesn't get hot.More details can be found at http://www.netgear.com/products/details/GS108.php This review was modfied by poster @ 01-03-06 12:58 PM |
This switch was ideal for upgrading my home network to gigabit. It's nice and sturdy, much better quality than the old 10/100 SMC switch it was replacing. It was a simple drop in installation, file transfer speeds are great now, a definite improvement.
