I just wanted to point out that this case does NOT demand ten molex plugs like the other reviewers have said. It calls for 5.It has 10 so you can use 2 psu's if you like and have redundancy. louddddd fannnns

20 Hot Swap Bays + 2 two.5inch Mounts for boot drive/sExcellent AirflowRemovable Motherboard TrayRemovable Power Provide Plate for Mounting Redundant Power Provide Unit Backplane Connectors are a bit FlimsyDrive Bays are Mediocre in ConstructionFan Assembly connectors are toward front of the case, so the assembly must be removed in order to connect it to the Power Provide (ideally this must be reversed, but the assembly is easy to remove) Wonderful Economical iSCSI Option to a SANThe Backplane requires ten 4pin plugs, i didn't want to mark this as Con, given that this must be expected, but make certain that your power provide has the proper amount of plugs, or that you order enough Y adapters. As other reviewers have noted, the program is loud, but only compared to a desktop, this case has six fans in it, so of course it's going to be loud, but no louder than any other server. If you are going to put boot drives on the 2.5inch plates, make confident you have lengthy power and data cables.

20 hot swap bays, 8087 sas connectors The drive power connectors snap off the boards if you apply any pressure at all, these are incredibly flimsy and will need reworked. Also in two of these chassis I had problems getting at least 1 of the drives to insert All norco needs here is a small QC and these instances will be great!I have utilized 6 of these cases and each batch has different defects.

Great value, develop quality is quite respectable so far, very spacious None so far I can't figure out what RAID card to buy for this case! I was expecting 1 huge backplane with 1 SAS port that I'd hook up to a HighPoint Rocketraid or the like. But that's not how this case functions, the leading row of 4 drives are on a single backplane, the subsequent row is a different backplane and so-on. So you really have five SAS cables coming from the drive array in the front of the case. Can anybody suggest a excellent card for this configuration? I've been undertaking SATA and SCSI for years, but this is my initial time with SAS.

Extremely affordable compared to comparable situations.20-Bay rack mountSAS back plane connectors for simplified cabling (this alone is worth the difference in between the 4220 and the 4020.) Sharp unfinished edges... don't believe the advertising on this selling point!!!Stock fan cage does not appear to be perfect for cooling 20+ difficult drives adequately and does not seal off the hard drive backplanes from the rest of the case as nicely as I would like. Overall, even with its' faults this case is an unbelievable value when other similar cases are more than 2x-3x as significantly. I have replaced the stock fan cage with a custom-created cage with 3 140mm fans. CFM rating must be comparable or superior but the unit is considerably quieter. I am also using 3ware CBL-SFF8087OCR-06M .6m multi-lane Reverse SAS to SATA cables so I can use the motherboard SATA ports for now.

Comment:
Incredibly properly produced for the money. SFF-8087 backpane is a huge improvement over the 4020. Hotswap bays are far better created as nicely. Surprisingly strudy. LOUD. I own a 4020 so i was expecting something somewhat loud, but this thing sounds like a hair dryer. I will have to replace these fans simply because i can hear them even with the door shut. Hot swap bays, though slightly far better made than the 4020, could still use a small function. I found a few metal burrs on numerous of the bays. (in the screw holes) Norco is definitely the only corporation making cost-effective SOHO enclosures. This is a major win for individuals who want a good big media server. I will almost certainly obtain additional of these situations to use as SAS Expander boxes. Perfect for ZFS and OpenSolaris.

Comment:
Low cost. Not supporting SGPIO Enclosure management via raid controller card. Not practical if you send a signal from the controller to identify a drive to make confident you get rid of the superior one. I ad to modified all the backplanes to connect the led's individually on Fault header of the controller.Fans are loud. Again i modified the panel and replaced the fans with 3 120 mm fans wich is considerably greater.Backplane SATA/Power connectors received brocken and chipped but i was lucky they still working.Construction of poor excellent and a lot of sharp edges. I purchased 2 of these instances and i will not advise this item. I will upgrade to a sata 3rd generation subsequent year and will go for yet another brand supporting SGPIO.

Comment:
Plenty of room to install parts and easy to function with. Outstanding ventilation. Build good quality was precisely what I expected for this price range. Drive trays clearly are not 'enterprise' class but as soon as a drive is mounted into the tray it's stiff sufficient to function nicely. You must remove 4 tiny screws along the left and correct of the case prior to sliding the leading lid off (no uncomplicated release latch).

Superb value. No quick release for lid (this is acceptable for the cost level although). Some missalignment of internal parts throughout manufacture, effortless to fix with a screwdriver and some time. Some sharp edges regardless of factory statements.

Very best case for WHS develop hands down.. None worth mentioning Assembly is can be tricky and the fan wall that divides the drive bays is very noisy..i just unplugged them and swapped out the rear fans for some quieter ones.. you will have a superior understanding of this when you get your hands on it.

Comment:
Packing for shipping was about the greatest I have observed, double boxed with about 4 inches of clear space from the case to the box all about and 1 to two inches clear top and bottom. There have apparently been some improvements considering that some of the other reviews. There are now 10 screws that hold the fan plate in place, 3 per side, and 4 on the bottom. Each and every and every LED works and is the similar brightness (and they are not blindingly bright). The backplane is not globe-class but there were no troubles with seating any of the difficult drives. This is a large case with loads of room.Norco internet site now has a replacement 120mm fan plate for about ป.00.9 Hitachi 2TB drives in RAID 6 plus two other drives working non-stop for a couple of weeks now. Some modest concerns that can be frustrating if you are not ready.PCI card mounting bracket screw holes might be a non-regular size as none of the screws from any of my other circumstances (Lian Li) would fit. Had to use some of the Norco case cover screws, which are the very same size. As noted by others, the screws are not the best, so some caution is advised throughout installation.Brackets for video cards and so on. hard to get into bottom of slot at rear of case.1 of the motherboard mounting posts was stripped, but Norco provided a lot more than had been needed for an ATX motherboard. Replaced fans prior to install. 4-Scythe KAMA FLOW 2 SP0825FDB12H on the fan plate and two-Scythe KAMA FLOW 2 SP0825FDB12M on the case. These fans still make noise (like a low pitched hair dryer on low setting), but HDD temps are an average of only 33C across the board, so I may well get a fan controller to quiet it down some far more.Note that every tough drive caddy has a sliding metal vent in the front. They are typically shipped with the vent open. Make certain that the vents are open for caddies containing challenging drives and closed for those that do not have challenging drives. Also, on the rear of the case are integral vented metal covers the PCI card slots. These require to be physically broken off of the case by bending toward the inside, so if you are installing a video card and so on. you want to break out the corresponding slot covert that aligns with your cards bracket. Do a trial fit of the motherboard to determine which vent to get rid of, then remove the motherboard, eliminate the vent and reinstall

Comment:
Great cost, lots of room, can unmount the fan panel effortlessly so as to install and wire all HDD. I like the reality that one row of four SATA HDD is fed by one four pins molex from the PSU (thus you'd want 5x4pins to feed all 20 HDD, if your PSU is powerful sufficient of course). I had to plane the extrusion for my double PSU which is an ATX form factor , it wouldn't fit... There's a little crew blocking any "L" mounting your PSU frame could have : I also had to cut some portion of that "L" from the PSU. All of this is obliging me to throw away my warranty for the casing as effectively as for the PSU. A lot more over, I bought the RL-20 rails, but there are NO holes on the casing to mount these, they're unaligned and by far! A lot more over, my casing does NOT have those small metallic tongues on the side to attach the rails (either RL-20 or RL-26) : the schematics from Norco's web site in this regard don't reflect the casing you're obtaining here!! -1 for unknown rail mounting (read "Other thoughts"), -1 for wrong ATX form factor extrusion. I'm in the dark here: I purchased the RL-20, it does not fit. I therefore want to acquire the RL-26, but the schematics for installing'em don't correspond to the RPC-4222 I've received. There's no way I can apply their online manual as how to install RL-26 rails. Even although the picture shows this little metallic tongue on the side, the actual RPC-4220 I've received don't have them!So my question is : What rail can I purchase to finally slide this casing into my rack? I'd require "L" mounting with square holes... Manufacturer Response:Dear Valued Customer,RL-26 rails can function with RPC-4224񳱬񳮤. I've got a 10tb Raid6 array in mine sofar (with plenty of room to grow), case is great, was easy to work on.With 2tb wd blacks, this thing can hold 40tb (ok 36ish on raid 6) and way more with 3tb drives (when decent ones hit market)Its a great little box for those who want a solid fileserver/array. Would reccomend.

Cons:Sharp edges, EXTREMELY LOUD fans

Pros:20 External drives + 2 internal drives for that price!SAS connector! 5 connectors instead of 20 sata cables!
Comment:
This is a great case for a home / small business file server. If using at home, you will need to swap the fans because the ones in there are incredibly LOUD!I build my own fan shroud and put 3 x 120mm fans, whisper quiet. You can also find online a guy that make that shroud out of metal. about 100$
