OCZ Onyx OCZSSD2-1ONX32G 2.5" MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
Comment:
It's a zippy small drive, gets the job completed with time to spare! TRIM support, and the newest firmware pre-installed to boot! Google Chrome (one of the only 4 programs I have installed onto it) goes EVEN Quicker than prior to, exactly where I utilized to feel it was a slow net connection to blame, it was my drives lagging behind. Boot time in my laptop (it's applied in my desktop, but it has to declare and retain an array, which my old one didn't have to do) is about 5-10 seconds, compared to practically a minute on the other disk. Plenty of space for Win 7 x64 ultimate on here, even with iTunes, Chrome, Avast!, and Skype installed onto it as well, it still has 15 gigs kicking around in there. Even on programs that aren't installed on the disk are faster, TF2's load time has gone down from 2 mins to practically 1 min to the primary menu. Also, command prompt is considerably snappier. And it created me recognize the power of AHCI. It's also eerily quiet in my pc now, no annoying ticks. Just a few little snags that I ran into. The 1st becoming that it really didn't like having an entire OS to itself when there were other disks to function on, I had to unplug my two storage drives and re-install to get an OS to finally stay on it (otherwise, windows couldn't format 1 of the drives, due to the fact it was labeled as program). TRIM support is there, but somewhat lacking, I get random occasions (about once a day) when most of the computer system locks up for about ten seconds that I've in no way had before, I've looked up some information on SSDs and found that this occasionally takes place on lower-end, low capacity models, not a biggie, but it's slightly annoying. Also, the boot time has actually gone up in my desktop, since of the array produced in windows (because I like only having one particular storage drive) to about 30-40 seconds. Also, it takes a bit longer than my old drives with larger Windows updates. All in all, it was worth what I paid for. Nothing to write house about in the way of SSDs, but absolutely far better than disk drives. The slow computers at my perform appear even slower now, I'm already spoiled by SSDs!

none 2nd drive arrived as the 1st was a DOA and this isn't working either. It does show up in the BIOS now, but I'm not even able to get a working OS on it. I've tried 2 clean Win XP installs and 1 Windows 7 install. Each fail on the 1st reboot right after the install with file corruption errors. Apparently this is a widespread issue on the OCZ Forum and a recognized concern with this drive. It appears nearly none of these Onyx drives function till they release a firmware update. Do not obtain this drive, this firm seems like they are willing to release a entire product that doesn't perform, can't envision how this made it past QA? Manufacturer Response:Hello, we are sorry that you have had difficulties. These drives perform quite nicely in most systems. We have taken notice of those that are getting difficulties, and we have a firmware update ready that will be released in the next couple of days. This update will resolve those concerns, and will also also give a good speed increase for those that are now operating fine. We will post the update on our SSD support forums at the link below.Thank youExternal Link(s): OCZ Support Forums|

Rapid! Only barely huge enough to hold Windows 7 Ultimate and WMC. I seriously had to trim a bunch out of my Windows 7 Ultimate/WMC install to accomodate for the OS and the 12GB required for a Pause buffer. Works perfectly regardless!

It's an SSD, absolutely nothing wrong with the drive. They limit they're warranty submission period to 21 days not 30 like the rest of the planet. Yeah I need to do them sooner, but I'm busy operating, I'm refinancing my residence & have additional critical issues to do. Now 23days following obtain I'm out ฤ, and their out 1 future customer. Won't get OCZ once more due to shifty warranty fine print... their loss. Manufacturer Response:Hello, we are sorry that you have missed your rebate. The details is listed on the rebate form, and our direct competitors in the market have comparable policies. In circumstances exactly where a customer has an RMA issue or a shipping delay we can make exceptions and grant and extension.Thank you

Comment:
Exceptional for the price. OCZ rebates are slow, but do ultimately come. Scores 7.1 in WEI.Onyx 32GB vs 5400 RPM in everyday usage, fairly noticeable difference. Installed into a Lenovo Y510 and reinstalled Win 7 Home Premium x86, my drivers, Word 2003, Photoshop CS5, VLC, and Firefox 3.6 in much less than 30 mins. Boots in 15 secs. Programs install and open much quicker than ahead of. I no longer dread getting to boot up just to google some thing.Soon after all the software above, plus AIM, Skype, Winamp, and my standard Firefox add-ons, I still have 17GB cost-free space. Make sure to pick up a two.five" SATA external enclosure to recycle the laptop HDD this SSD will replace. Onyx 32GB vs 7200 RPM in everyday usage, not a enormous difference. Slightly snappier than my WD Caviar Black ྪ%-15% difference at most). Greatest difference is that boot instances went from 45 secs to 20 secs in Win 7 Ultimate x64. Otherwise, not as major of a distinction vs a 7200 RPM as there was against a 5400 RPM. No room left to comfortably install a high demand game, so I can't comment on that.Surely not sufficient space for a desktop pc all by itself, but you really should know this already if you're looking up SSDs. Might be enough space for a basic laptop though. Superior spending budget model. Ideal price to bring back an aging laptop (lack of HDD and mass storage essentially turns it into an overpowered netbook, best for surfing, typing up docs, watching vids from the ext HDD, etc). Not worth it to absolutely replace a high efficiency 7200 RPM drive like a Caviar Black or the Samsung Spinpoint F3. Performance gains not worth the low capacity (this is accurate for all spending budget SSDs, not just the Onyx). For a desktop boot drive (in a high efficiency rig with standard platter HDD storage), opt for a larger ࿠GB+), quicker SSD. For a fundamental residence pc with an extra HDD for storage, this is a excellent boot drive.

-Light-Low heat-Low Energy Consumption-Quickly. Loads programs and OS quickly.-Came with updated Firmware -32GB ྾GB actually) is tiny-I figured mounting holes were universally positioned, but the laptop hard drive sled had holes .5MM too far apart. I couldn't screw the challenging drive into the sled but it wasn't a massive deal. It was most likely the laptop manufacture's fault anyways. I purchased this for a buddy when the laptop in his Satellite Toshiba had significant sector failures and frequently and unexpectedly powered off due to the tough drive overheating sitting at the Vista desktop. Vista installed nicely and I installed all the programs he requirements and updated vista and had no overheating problems (the drive didn't get warm). I'm pleased in the improved speed on semi-old laptop. Right after installing Vista32 SP2, MS Workplace 07, VLC and a few little programs and left 10GB for him. Figuring out what services and settings to modify for the SSD was a small annoying. Win 7 would have been a nice improvement as nicely.I left superfetch on for boot files only.I would purchase this for my laptop, but it has a Intel X25-V.

Cons: Other than the price of this SSD (like any other ssd the price will be high for awhile)

Pros: Speed(ish), 1000000 hour rating, long warranty 6 dollar shipping
Comment:
Not much to say other than its fast reliable and able to boot win 7 ult on 4 gb of 2000mhz (oc'd to 2056) in about 18 seconds. IM LOVING IT though it doesnt leave that much room on teh drive after a os is installed

OCZ Onyx OCZSSD2-1ONX32G 2.5" MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
Cons: -not all that fast

Pros: -reliable-upgradeable firmware-supports Indilinx' Wiper/TRIM utility for Linux and XP based systems
Comment:
Installed this as the system drive on a an Atom D330-based nettop. Updated to the newest firmware without any issues. The user has WinXP Pro installed, so we made a simple Scheduler item that runs OCZ's TRIM/Wiper utility. This drive isn't all that fast and it's very small, but in a system with a slow CPU and very light storage needs, it's perfect.

OCZ Onyx OCZSSD2-1ONX32G 2.5" MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
Cons: -Like almost all SSDs, they require some user knowledge about maintenance and do need to be 'optimized' at least twice a year

Pros: -Very noticeable decrease in start-up times and application loading/launching-Entry level price
Comment:
Overall, if you just want to make your OS boot faster and launch your web browser and word super fast, I highly suggest this SSD for the price it sits at. As a gaming SSD, it just lacks the capacity as you can only keep 1 game (7GB) on it at a time without degrading performance (with win7 installed).

OCZ Onyx OCZSSD2-1ONX32G 2.5" MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
Cons: small capacity; there are faster SSDs

Pros: Faster than conventional hard drives; quiet; low price
Comment:
I would recommend getting this drive if you are on a budget and don't need a higher capacity drive. The speed difference is very noticable over conventional drives. You may purchase more of these drives and configure in RAID 0 to increase capacity and performance.

OCZ Onyx OCZSSD2-1ONX32G 2.5" MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
Cons: For the price, none. It's a bit small for an SSD, and sequential speeds could be faster, but you get what you pay for.

Pros: Surprisingly fast SSD. Even though it doesn't have blazing fast sequential read and write speed, it's still got random read and write speed equivalent to a comparable Indilinx drive (about 10MB/s). Compare this to any conventional hard drive, about 1 to 1.5MB/s for random read and write, and you still get a massive speed improvement.
Comment:
I have this drive in a USB 2.0/eSATA enclosure as a Windows 7 installation drive and drivers disk. Rather than installing Windows in about 30-45 minutes from a DVD, it installs from the SSD in about half the time! Blazing fast speeds - you still get the SSD "feel" because of the fast random read and write speed. As a boot drive, I wouldn't get anything less than 60GB, but as a backup drive (or cheap boot solution in RAID 0), this drive is awesome for the money!

Cons: Not the fastest SSD

Pros: CHEAP, faster than any mechanical drive
Comment:
for the price, an excellent value. Defiantly faster than my velociraptor 80GB. (not a typo, 80GB VR). If you want higher benchmark numbers, get a vertex 2 or something. If you just want a responsive system with 32gb on a budget, can't go wrong with this.

Cons: capacity

Pros: speed, noise level
Comment:
Very impressive speed when upgrading from dual sata raid. Not as fast as some other SSDs available. But cheap. I would recommend you save your money a little longer and baught a bigger capacity ssd drive.Watch out for pricematch. NCIX has a tendency to slack of on price competitiveness lately.

Cons: Low disk space, low speed for SSD

Pros: Cheap and Fast
Comment:
I installed Windows 7 Ultimate along with Office 2010 Professional and have around 13-14GB of space remaining. I used this drive as the primary drive in my T61 and installed the old hard drive as a secondary drive in the Ultrabay slot (replacing the DVD drive). So far, speeds have improved a lot and I got a 7.0 rating in Windows Experience Index.

Cons: Very low capacity

Pros: Cheapest SSD (50$ after 25$ MIR)Decent performance
Comment:
I bought one of these as a system drive for a less computer-savvy user that does not use any large programs save for office. The storage on this drive is enough to install windows 7 and office comfortably, but not much else. You need a secondary drive with this, save for the simplest uses. The user did notice a nice performance upgrade though :)

Cons: Seems like its one of the earlier SSD's cuz it dose not match the speed of the Corsair Nova I got for my laptop.

Pros: Noticably faster than my HDD. Came with the latest firmware.

Cons: Price and obviously the 32GB size are the weaknesses

Pros: Works like a charm for OSX Leopard 10.6.2No noticeable noise - perfect for a Squeezebox TouchNo noticeable heatdraws very little curren
Comment:
I'm using this strictly for a Squeezebox Touch and I load music files from a Mac. It works perfectly on the Mac, the only thing I had to do was to Initialize the drive since it's not formatted. The other thing I noticed is that it says "Made in Taiwan" at the back of the drive.Xbench disk test final score is around 160 with sequential 170 and random at 150. Not bad for a single SSD but of course I'm comparing with a 4 drive HDD RAID0 with a final score 206.Under Activity Monitor, I see a steady read/write of 54.7MB/sec with a peak of 62MB/sec. Cons: Got a unit with the v1.5 firmware. Trying to install Win7 on it will undoubtably fail with corrupted files.

Pros: If I can get it to work, it must be a neat drive...
Comment:
Just google "ocz onyx 32gb problem" for a clearer picture. They claim there's an update  (v1.51 firmware) but I have tried their update  instructions time and again on three different SATA controllers (SiI3112, AMD SB750 and Nvidia nForce 630) to no avail. The update  app does not see the drive. Stay away from it unless you're sure to get v1.51 or like trouble.

Cons: Size vs. price ratio is horrible, and probably will stay expensive for awhile. Most useful only for Win7, which supports TRIM, but for people who don't care about seek time degradation in the long run, it's not really a huge weakness.

Pros: SSD, need I say more? Well I will...Fast seek timesApplications run very quickly, OS boots ridiculously quick.TRIM
Comment:
I plan on using this as my boot drive for Win7 and maybe installing frequently used game on this drive. Got it at a surprise deal for $94.00. With the $10 MIR, it's 32 GB SSD for $84.00. It's the best deal for those who want a SSD for under $100.00.
