I originally used this drive as my boot drive, but I'm now using it as a cache with my Asus Z68 board. My orignal vertex 2 failed, but OCZ was very helpful and replaced it quickly. I'd definitely buy OCZ drives again.

Comment:
Very rapid throughput to match the expected blazing random access occasions. Does not benchmark or carry out as rapidly as advertised, but nonetheless faster than any other hard drive I've owned. Excellent packaging and production high quality, and includes the 3.5" bracket. On SATA 3. I couldn't squeeze more than 140mb/s throughput in either read or write, with any file size. Would surely have liked to see higher numbers. Bought two of these to run OS drives; no troubles with either.

Unreal. This is like runnig RAID on the 1st version SSD's But you get TRIM no need to have to Raid these on SATA II as they virtually hit the limit as is. And you get TRIM with Win 7! Will need a SATA III version. Pay the added บ bucks for Vertex more than the Agility and the IOPS are 50k on this one!

Comment:
The really epitome of Speed. All the other difficult drives sneak jealous glances at this SSD on the playground. See extra gush-worthy comments beneath for the tech details. I hate to bring this up, but the OCZ forum has some weapons-grade snarkiness on their board. To me this is relevant to the product experience, and therefore warrants a swift mention here. There's excellent information there, but the tone of some of the leading posters is a genuine turn-off. Of course, no egg deductions for this minor tangent; all five eggs surely remain. I got 1 of these for my Core i7 920 + Biostar rig, and when configured effectively, I get an average of 285 MB/s read, 275 MB/s write, just as advertised Ɨ.7 WEI rating). A lot benchmarking ensued. So, I then purchased a second one of these poor boys and dropped it in my cheapo netbook (yea that's proper). Waste of cash you say? Outcomes: on an Atom netbook operating at 1.66 Mhz (Toshiba NB305), I am seeing 250 MB/s read, 240 MB/s write. Epic Win. Wasn't even certain if the netbook supported SATA II, but it did and now it rocks so difficult. Saved weight and energy, too.1 important point: Enabling AHCI in the BIOS appears to be a essential requirement for greatest performance (and triggered me some headaches initially, as other reviewers have mentioned). And of course, the usual suspects apply for disabling pagefile, allow write cache, Win 7 for Trim support, Intel Rapid Storage drivers version 9.6..1014 or greater, etc. as explained in both the other critiques and the aforementioned snarky forum.

This is by far the very best investment in computers I have ever produced, and I have spent over ุ,000 in the last five years. I have this tough drive in a core 2 duo 1.86Ghz pc and it will run laps around any laptop or computer you can go buy off the shelf, all mainly because of this challenging drive. None If your thinking about buying a new personal computer, forget it purchase this challenging drive and upgrade rather. This is the initially time in my life that i ever thought it created sense to upgrade existing computer more than a absolutely new system.

Quick drive, good I/O, the system boots in 29 seconds with Windows 7 64bit Pro.10 Minutes to install Windows 7. None It is a small slower than I hoped on AMD SB600 chipsetThe greatest I can get is burst 223 AVG 194 with HDtach. I also attempted it on the SB710 chipset and got simmilar results. Greatest outcomes were IDE with Microsoft driver & AHCI with AMD driver. I also tried it on the Promise Raid Controller. The outcomes were not as very good 10-20 % much less. It is still 3x more rapidly than my HDD.

Quickly drive - can not complain about the read speeds. Comes with a 3.five bracket for mounting. Just sufficient space for OS, Drivers, and your most presently played game. Write speed will not function as advertised. To be honest, the read speed wont either. I'm getting 230RቼW. Downloaded OCZs software to update firmware, and it is up-to-date. Attempted to change some settings on my MoBo in the BIOS but to no avail. Rates as 7. in windows. Purchased a second 1 for my girlfriend - exact same SSD bought at the similar time. She's only getting a 6.8. Very rapidly when it worked, improved battery life. This thing died soon after only two weeks of owning it. I utilised this as my boot drive and thank the lord I didn't put any important files on it since following just a few days I was getting blue screens of death and the laptop or computer would lock up and so on. A few days soon after the inital BSD's the drive just took a massive dump. RMA'd twice, on my third drive... Don't acquire this, get an Intel SSD or a SLC SSD... Manufacturer Response:Hello, we are sorry for the dilemma, and are confident that a new drive will work out fine for you. I like the mounts provided. Running in RAID0 got actually nice bench two times higher than Colossus as a single drive. My atto 587mb/s Read, 549mb/s Write in RAID0. built-in controller with my ga-p55a-ud4p board I don't notice much improvment from my old Colossus, i thought I was still bottlenecking with a Colossus, but only slightly, I'm acquiring far better frame rates on some games but its bearly noticable, just smothing stuff out basicly from studders. I hope it last long thats all I'm worried about. I see so many folks that had 3 month old drives fail on the last vertex. But can't truly compare cause this is various on controller manufacure 'Sandforce'. So we will see what occurs

All the usual rewards of SSD (quiet, speedy, and so on) Died at the 2 week mark Bought for my wife's Dell E4310 and it just died yesterday. A BSOD and now not-detectable. A modest lightweight brick. Only now have I found that there are possible issues with Dell lappys and these drives. Check the manufacturer's forums ahead of purchasing one for a Dell E series. Beginning RMA procedure... Manufacturer Response:Hello, we are really sorry for the issue. Some Dell laptops (but not all, even of the very same model) have sleep/hibernate issues, and these capabilities should be turned off until a fix is implemented. OCZ Vertex 2 OCZSSD2-2VTX50G 2.5" MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
Cons:~35MB/s SEQUENTIAL write speed on uncompressible data (more below).-Running this in IDE mode cripples 4-64K random read performance, which is a factor in boot times and program launch times. There are guides on how to run Windows on AHCI mode, even if you didn't install the AHCI drivers with Windows.Do your homework before buying one, benchmarking it, and coming to the conclusion that it's a bad drive!

Pros:-Very fast boot times - ~30 seconds like any good SSD.-VERY fast random write speed -- program installs are amazingly fast!-This is not an "Extended" drive, meaning 17% of the 64GB of flash memory is provisioned for 'wear leveling' - meaning you can pretty much fill this drive up to the brim, and not worry too much about it slowing down in performance or not lasting as long. If you got the "extended" 60GB version, I'd be inclined to leave a few extra GB free on the drive because those ones also only have 64GB of flash memory, but only 6% is provisioned for wear and tear of the flash memory.
Comment:
This is a fantastic SSD when you figure out a few of its quirks. I've owned a lot of different SSD's - 30/60/120GB Vertex 1's, a 60GB Agility 2, an 80 and 160GB X25-M Intel drives. One of the first things I like to do is benchmark these drives. This drive does come up a bit short in certain parts of AS SSD benchmark, but I assure you, it's extremely fast in real life. It's definitely faster than the Vertex 1 series, especially for installing programs and writing to the drive.Take a look at these numbers:AS SSD BenchmarkOCZ Vertex 30GB 1.6 Firmware: Sequential Read 190MB/s , Seq. Write 92 MB/sOCZ Vertex 2 50GB 1.32 FW: Seq. Read 157 MB/s , Seq. Write 36 MB/s (not a typo!)Clearly the Vertex 1 is faster, right?Actually, no, it isn't. The read speeds of the Vertex 1 and 2 are pretty comparable, and boot times are pretty much identical. However, in the 4K write tests, the Vertex 2 blows the V1 out of the water. It's about 7 times faster! Here are my results:Vertex 1:http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f141/jlube1024/30GBOCZVertexonDesktop16FW.jpgVertex 2 IDE mode:http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f141/jlube1024/50GBOCZVertex2IDE.jpgVertex 2 AHCI mode:http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f141/jlube1024/50GBOCZVertex2AHCI.jpgAlso, in HDTach, using compressible data, the Vertex 2 is consistently faster, and that's even with a dip in performance early on that TRIM would fix if I just let the drive sit for awhile:V1:http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f141/jlube1024/25in30GBOCZVertex15firmwareRW.jpgV2:http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f141/jlube1024/25in50GBOCZVertex250GB3xconsecutiverunsoutofboxRW.jpg

I bought this SSD on sale as a Windows / Boot drive to increase the performance of my system. My system now boots in half the time it used to and everything installed on the drive runs much faster. So far the only downside to the drive is that it is relatively small compared to my mechanical drives.
