OCZ Vertex 2 OCZSSD2-2VTX50G 2.5" MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
Comment:
Came with a nice bracket. I can always use them. It feels quick in general usage. SLOW (for the class of ssd). Let me say that again: SLOW. This never ever version uses 25nm flash, and therefore reserves additional space for internal maintenance. This is really a 45gb drive. Also WAY slower than the rated speeds. I'm no noob to SSDs either - I've happily owned 7 of them. The quickest I've seen this is on an ICH10r at 170mb/s sequential read with TRIM enabled soon after obtaining been idle for a day. This has been quite a scandal on several forums. Sandforce drives Seldom live up to their rated speeds, but are nevertheless marginally more rapidly than Intel G2 and Indilinx drives, although I wouldn't pay more for them. I'm deciding if it is worth my time to RMA, and in all probability not. I normally like OCZ as a corporation, but I hugely recommend people prevent their Sandforce line of SSDs. What can I say? It's crazy fast, it stays cool, it barely utilizes any energy, and it's far less most likely to die than a HDD. SSD is the future, devoid of a doubt. properly, ya know...cost Get it, use it for your OS and applications. You'll adore how quickly almost everything opens and executes.

Installed this in my Macbook Pro. I have two of them with the slower getting the MBP 2.16 early dual core. I was waiting for an Optibay for my other MBP to make my Superdrive bay into one more difficult drive, however, I decided to test this in the older 2.16 MBP. I was pleasantly shocked how the drive upped the efficiency. The unit boots in 12 seconds from chime. I am operating substantial piano samples from Garritan that had the old drive including external 7200 chokes a bit. Not only did this run the sample perfectly but I even ran at double+ the bandwidth at 96khz with no a choke and upped the sample. Incredible!! NOW, I am going to maintain it in the slower MBP and get one more one particular of these. This installed eventlessly using Time Machine although you have to format with boot disc, utilities then go back and it will come across the drive. It did boot by itself once with I was recovering from Time Machine at the beginning of the backup to set the drive, then was non eventful till it was totally programmed from T.M Not important but the drive in this Macbook Pro takes longer time to turn off than boot. Though expensive a drive like this is still cheaper than upgrading your computer system. The older personal computer I place this in now blows away the newer faster personal computer. Could be a more affordable way of acquiring much more efficiency than the expense of buying yet another, more quickly pc.

Quick! Embarrassingly Quickly! Shamefully Quick! Capacity calls for documents folder to be remapped to an old Raptor i have. Really like this drive. I personal a 128 gig Vertex Turbo that is quickly and this is even faster. Totally the finest speed upgrade you can do to your Pc.

SUPER Quick!!!!Comes with a 2.5=ɯ.5 adapter bracket All that funds for a box no larger then a CD Jewel Case. Lengthy term durability (only X amount of writes prior to sectors go bye bye).Holes did not align one hundred% so the bracket has some minor scratching as I jammed it into the case slot.XP and TRIM support? Operating XP with totally free ATTO benchmark application, I got 225 MB/sec Reads and 150 MB/sec Writes! That's an typical my pal. Wholy smokes! Applications are loaded as you release the mouse button on the double click!I require to upgrade to Windows 7 ultimately. They made 7 look too much like Mac. If I wanted a Mac, I would buy a Mac.Weird factor is that immediately after constructing the program again with the SSD, I can not play Medal of Honor. The system locks up everytime. Not sure what to do. Reinstall video driver or rebuild technique.

Rapid. Excellent assistance from OCZ, new firmware is released really usually. A tiny smaller in capacity, but plenty for windows. I purchased this as my boot drive a year ago. It has been outstanding. With Windows and drivers committed to this drive it nevertheless is only 50% full. Benchmark speeds reside up to what is advertised, 250-300 Mb/s read and create, constant. Have had ZERO issues. Hugely suggest any OCZ SSD drive.

Boot Time is amongst ten - 15 seconds.Comes with desktop adapter.Wonderful SSD from what I have employed of it. Really quickly, no troubles as of but. I would advocate the OCZ, but maybe get a single with bigger capacity. Just installing vanilla Windows 7 Qualified and updating Windows has practically filled the complete drive. All I have installed on it was Win7, updated Windows and the graphics drivers and I already have only 9GBs left.So to summarize, out of the box it has 46.5GB of space (normal), after Win set up and and so on as I stated above, I am only left with 9GB. And to my information Win7 Pro only takes 16GB to install + updates + drivers. So that means that Win updates and drivers took roughly 21 additional gigabytes? Idono, just seems like somethings incorrect. Possibly not the SSD, but who knows. Anybody possessing the identical troubles really feel free to chime in?

I don't personal this SSD but but have owned some in the past and have accomplished a lot of study on them. Like the guy that left a three egg review saying his speeds have been not as rapid as it says, I had the very same dilemma with my very first SSD. The reason for this has to do with settings in the bios. Certainly, this will be a possible difficulty for the mac user. Now, I don't imply for this to be a step-by-step guide but if you want your SSD to execute to the max you will need to go into your BIOS and locate the settings for drives. In the bios there will be a format the drives are in (not precisely confident, you may well will need to look about). Find it and you click enter to modify it, then you will see 3 options to decide on from, raid, AHIC, and the default (dont remember name). You will want to turn it to AHIC because that is what SSD need to have to run to their max. Hoped this assists some of you guys that are a little confused about your slower speeds. :) None

I use this drive just for the OS and core applications. Otherwise I have a TB drive for anything else. I DO NOT use a web page file/swap file.Win7 boots in about 15 secs.Instance response.Speeds typical read speeds at 𞴲MB/s and write speeds 𞴠MB/s with SATA 2.. I am employing a i7 920 in a Gigabyte X58 UD5 rev. 1 with 6GB RAM @ 1333 with Win7 64bit. Cost. But its cutting edge, so I can not seriously complain. Sandforce reserves ㅏ% of actual drive space to replace broken cells and "buffer" information - therefore the odd ൺ" GB capacity.

Nonetheless extremely quickly at just below 200Mb/s (Read = 193 / Create = 187)Effortless Set up. Talked with OCZ many occasions. Very first they say it was the Mac OS causing the bottleneck at 200 Mb/s. I installed Win7 Ultimate...similar numbers. Named them once more...they say its my Mac BIOS. (Apple stated there is no "BIOS". They wouldnt assist since it was not a APPLE solution.) Im a bit bugged at the truth I cant exceed 200 Mb/s. Nonetheless a really quick and noticeable upgrade. I may well sell these and order a slightly slower 1 with more space for the identical cash.

Quite rapidly & decent overall performance Other brands have given that surpassed this in terms of $/gb at comparable specs. This is a replacement of a defective < 1yo Limited Edition OCZ drive. I have been a fan of OCZ, but over the previous year each my SSD, high performance RAM and Power Supply all failed. For the cost, you would expect an general better practical experience. I comprehend that I may possibly just be victim of terrible luck, but OCZ's technical support is about as negative as it gets and just makes matters worse - on all 3 occasions. Responses from OCZ's techs are really impersonal and going via the RMA course of action is very frustrating. I discover it intriguing that OCZ replies to poor rating on newegg with sincerity but on the flip-side wont even spend for shipping on a defective piece of hardware that you are attempting to return. Sad. Manufacturer Response:Hello, we are sorry for the issues with your OCZ merchandise. We do care about our shoppers, and we aplogize if the automated finish of the help technique seems impersonal. Yes this performs and is ok. Not sure if I got the newer slow models with 25nm nand, but my Vertex 30GB Raid drives beat these in Study speed noticable in the 4K to 64K benchmarks. The older drive look faster to me in Windows as nicely. The benchmarks on the internet for the Vertex2 drives utilizing AS SSD benchmarks are way as well higher compared to the drives I got. This is ridiculous. Two Vertex 30GB drives in raid0:Read: 214MB Seq, 26MB 4K, 58MB 4K-64KCreate: 191MB Seq, eight.5MB 4K, 7.5MB 4K-64K.Two Vertex two 50GB in raid0 with identical setupRead: 250MB Seq, 15.5MB 4K, 38MB 4K-64KCreate: 56.5MB Seq, 55MB 4K, 59MB 4K- 64K.These have been accomplished on the identical Pc, exact same hardware and identical OS restore image. I setup my Raid0 drive to have really little writes immediately after the programs are installed. I maintain my temp and page files on an additional drive. So I am more concerned with read speeds. My older Vertex Ƒ) drives carry out way far better except for seq reads, but the 4K and four-64K reads are way better than the Vertex2 setup. Also the Vertex1 drives are way faster on the seq writes in AS SSD. This drive is a waste of funds. If these are the 25nm drives, then they are shipping with the same model number as the 34nm drives then that may explain the dilemma here. I will take this up with OCZ and ask them. The older drives are greater for my use. If you will need a thing that w Manufacturer Response:Hello, please call our support manager at 鷘) 733-8400, ext 206. Its like I had under no circumstances skilled the complete usability of my personal computer. Each system I load and each file I open is virtually instantaneous. My thoughts is officially blown... It's 赨 for 50GB, but these are the methods of the present SSD market place. I can't truly fault the drive for that, its just a basic SSD disappointment My earlier "mechanical" hard drive failed last week, so I figured it was time to give SSD a try. It appears like SSD technologies is progressing at a quick rate so I wanted anything with fairly new technologies and still inside my price range. Immediately after reading several articles and evaluations, the Vertex2 seemed like the ideal solution for the money and capacity. I was an SSD dissenter for a extended time, but now I happily admit that SSD is the way to go. It's definitely not price efficient for mass data storage, but it tends to make a great place for your OS and programs to reside.
