OCZ Vertex 2 OCZSSD2-2VTXE90G 2.5" MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
Comment:
Twice as quick as a standard hard drive The exact same speed as a RAID two-disk array with a complete lot Less space for a entire lot additional money. Replacement only warranty means no returns for buyer's remorse, which is what I have immediately after seeing how this stacked up against my two Samsung Spinpoint F3 1Tb drives in a Raid0 array.I installed both on the identical mobo (ASUS M4A79TD PRO/USB3) running through the identical SB850 controller. I didn't run any benchmarks, but I timed installing Win7 and several other activities and honestly, the differences had been so small they were insignificant. And that was only when I timed activities. In actual use, I noticed no difference at all in my work flow (except not hearing any spindles.)I see now that, rather of obtaining 1 of these and a two-disk Raid0 array I should have opted for a 4-disk Raid0 array. I don't need that much space, but I suspect that would have provided much a lot more speed for about a hundred bucks much less!I was going to return the item, but that was when I read the fine print - replacement only warranty! Manufacturer Response:Hello, we are sorry for any confusion. Newegg's obtain and return policies are clearly stated on the item page. The actual warranty is 3 years by means of OCZ for this item.Thank you

It starts up actually fast and shut downs are quickly also. Had to ship the 1st 1 back due to technical difficulties the second 1 works wonderful but beginning to encounter complications once more. Dont want to return it since ocz makes you pay for shipping just for them to exchange it. I didnt know at the time but you want to configure windows 7 alot for a ssd simply because of the limited writes and slow random access. Not significantly here other than it boots two seconds more rapidly. However this drive doesn't live up to the efficiency expectations I had. I at the moment have a three TB, 3 drive raid program (core i7 with 12G 1600Mhz DDR3) that vastly outperforms this drive (which fees less for nearly 33x the space!). While the elevated boot time is marginally quicker than my raid system ƒ-3 seconds), the information transfer and load times for programs aren't even noticeable! To make matters worse, this drive doesn't appear to deal with unplanned "power off" situations... an expertise every person loves... guess I'll just have to reload win 7 once more. Maybe if Intel ever gets their matrix raid prepared for SSD's then I'd contemplate adding yet another 1 of these to use in a raid configuration (after it drops in price drastically). Now I'm just stuck with a hole in my pocketbook. I ought to have spent the real bucks and gotten a Vital drive and SATA3. Manufacturer Response:Hello, we are sorry that your speeds are not up to expectations. In response to other reviews:This is an solid performing drive, 260뢒 MB/s R/W on a storage review (hint) internet site. This is much superior than the average of around 100MB/s for large files for a leading end sata drive (e.g. WD Black Ed.).For random small file reads the SSD blows away disk drives. If your dealing with massive files then 3 standard sata drives with a superior controller ($$$) can outperform the SSD - but this your failure rate, heat, power, space req. are way higher -- and you cant fit them in a notebook. Also the reviewer stated they had a three disk array that blew this away. A 3 disk array can expense Ūk to 赀. To get the peformance claimed I'm guessing the user striped them w/o parity which indicates he has no data protection and 3x the failure rate of a single drive. 1 benefit of SSD's is their longevity - take that into account. No cons - price is high due to the fact the write speed is higher than most. If you don't want the write speed take into account obtaining one that is around 250렕 MB/s R/W and you need to see a price of around 贬-150 (given 8ቦ pricing)

Purchased this for a T61 thinkpad 񣎻CTO). I was searching forward to quicker loads, etc. The drive was not initially recognized by Vista or Linux when connected via USB. I pulled out R Drive Image to format and that took care of it. However, the Thinkpad would not recognize the drive when installed in the major bay. Error 2100 "Hard disk drive initialization error". I've tried bios updates and researching the net. So far, I've got about 5 hours on this project. Time for a break. Perhaps an RMA. Jeez..... I positive wish.Never got to test it so I gave it three stars for "neutral". Manufacturer Response:Hello, we are sorry that you have had difficulties with your installation. This drive flat out kills normal rotational hard drives. I replaced a 500GB 5400RPM and the results had been instant and properly worth the expense of the drive. I did a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on my Acer Aspire operating an Intel Core i5 with 4GB of DDR3. The drive pulls in a 7.6 out of 7.9 in the windows knowledge index.I would highly recommend that if you acquire a SSD, do some study and know what to disable/enable when installing the drive. A clean install is preferable with windows, and TRIM is a need to as well. A lot of men and women have posted negative critiques on SSDs since they just didn't do the necessary prep work.Last but not least, I chose this drive due to the fact it's employing a SandForce controller, which is 1 of the best controllers available. High read AND write speeds. I would get another 1 in a heart beat. Unfortunately the cost for SSDs in general is nonetheless high. I deemed it nicely worth the cost for the performance acquire, but it depends what you want out of it I guess. Newegg delivered on time as usual. I anticipate absolutely nothing but superior from this drive in the years to come. If I run into complications, the three year warranty really should do the trick.

Incredibly fast drive, as to be expected with a SSD, no complaints here. Drive went poor following only 3 months, motherboard bios doesn't recognize it mainly because it's not acquiring a device ID back from the drive at start off up. Possibly I just got a poor apple. This Drive is scary quick!! When benchmarked it runs consistently at the listed spec speeds. No difficulties with install of the drive itself or windows. Even though it is only 90 GB it was plenty of space for Windows 7, all my programs which is really a couple of, and two games. (Still have 30GB no cost.) This is the most jump in performance with any upgrade I have ever performed. Windows expertise jumped from 5.9 to 7.8. None this drive is amazing. Get 1 now. Got a considerable jump in performance when AHCI mode was enabled, and drivers installed. Drive went from a windows expertise of 7.4 to 7.8. Most folks who installed this drive and gave it a poor to mediocre rating almost certainly do not even know about AHCI

Makes my windows boot up in 15 seconds and shut down in 5Sufficient space for Windows install + WOW + SC2 You will almost certainly have to obtain a different normal HD to store other programs / files on when employing SSDs considering that they merely don't have the capacity when compared to a 1-2 TB HD.Not a con of this specific product genuinely, but it does cause you to in all probability will need to invest additional $ If you are benchmarking, use ATTO (more accurate)Don't forget to set the SATA/IDE settings in your bios to AHCI b4 installing windows. It'll enable the SSD to operate at full speed.

Quick and, so far, dependable. It was obtainable on Newegg for a very reasonable cost. 90GB is a ideal size for installing an OS, applications, and essential document files. None at this time. In order to cut down on wear, I transferred my browser temp files to a RAM disk and my paging files to a 10,000 RPM HD that I also use for media storage and backup purposes. Excellent instructions are accessible on-line.

Cons: Pricey for size, as with all SSDs.

Pros: Massive speed increase over my raptor (and silent).
Comment:
If you focus on keeping programs and one or two main games on the drive, 90gb is plenty of room. The speed increase was phenomenal ... lengthy boot times to near instant for both Windows and games. Also, it's so nice to not fear like my drive is going to die as it groans (screaming raptor).
