Awesome.
Comment:
I'll say it again, awesome. I'm currently running the Windows7 RC on it and am amazed how this drive makes my 2 yr old laptop fly. My old 5400rpm 120GB laptop drive was running Vista and it would take about 2 minutes to boot to logon screen, and about 2 or 3 minutes after logon for desktop to load and all the start programs to finish doing their stuff before the system because responsive. On the new drive, about 15 seconds to logon screen, and after logon the system gets to the desktop in about 10 seconds and it takes maybe another 10 seconds for the start programs to finish loading and the CPU and drive go to idle, system fully responsive. In regular use, all my bigger applications that used to require a lot of disk access time to load now load twice as fast, maybe even 3X as fast. I'm not sure the extent of performance difference between Vista and Windows7 (probably not huge), and I know my old laptop drive was a dog, but this drive is still awesome!.

OCZ Vertex Series 2.5" Solid State SATA II Hard Drive - 120GB
Cons:-High price-Unknown life expectancy.-Did not work too well in my board being ran as NON MEMBER RAID, but works fine after another install in AHCI mode.

Pros:-First and foremost, the great support from OCZ themselves. Constant firmware updates and the release of various utilities make this expensive purchase well worth the investment.-Speed. Nothing else beats an SSD in terms of speed. Booting, shutting down, hibernation etc, are all really, really quick. The 0.1ms access time makes for near instant loading of just about everything.-Takes a lot less power to run than a conventional hard drive. Measured by the output of my UPS.-DEAD SILENT. No moving parts after all.-runs very cool to the touch.-So small and light, it can virtually be mounted anywhere in your case with little to no hassles.-not susceptible to shock and vibration like traditional platter based drives.-Flashing of latest firwmare is a breeze now that they are DOS based from a boot able USB stick.
Comment:
Replaced two 150GB Raptors in Raid 0 with one of these. Not only does it run cooler, quieter, and take less power, it beats both of those drives in terms of speed. I was quite surprised by just how small and light it was, but was glad I could tuck it away anywhere in my case without a worry of it being damaged due to no moving parts inside. If you are looking for an upgrade in speed beyond the conventional cpu/ram/gpu, grab one of these drives. It really will make your existing system feel like a brand new one, even if you don't change a single other part besides your hard drive.Runs very smooth in Windows 7 X64, with next to no tweaks needed to get it working as should. Simply disable indexing, superfetch and defrag, and you should be good to go! Run the TRIM utility regularly and your drive should stay in tip top shape.Very nice drive and highly recommended if you have the cash to spend on it. Check the OCZ forums for support if needed, it has a lot to learn from. Thanks to NCIX for the very quick shipping of this drive to me, as well as the price match. Had to RMA
Comment:
I returned my drive due to constant freezes and intermittently not being seen by the BIOS, but when it worked...it worked great. I'm still waiting to receive my replacement. If installing XP or Vista, the drive will need to be aligned 1st. Visit OCZ's Gen 2 SSD forum in order to achieve max-performance/longevity, and to find out all the pitfalls before you buy.

Wow Speed
Comment:
In Vista speed on a 3ghz quad core and a 3-year old laptop went from 4.1 to 7.1 and 6.8 respectively. Great improvement.

Great value for a laptop
Comment:
Sure it costs a bit but if you need a fast drive to pump up your laptop, this SSD did it for me. Didn't touch a thing. Just put my data on it and it really improved my laptop's performance and capacity. Haven't had a long trip yet to see if there was the claimed battery life impact but every other claim has been on the money. Makes your laptop road warrior ready and allows you to be much more confident while traveling. Highly recommend this product.

Amazing Product
Comment:
If you want speed, this the the SSD for you. 250 mb/s max performance is not a lie. I raided two of these on 0 and the speed literally doubled. Worth every penny. NOTE: Make sure you install the latest firmware before you do anything! Those updates are crucial and gave me much more speed when raided.

OCZ Vertex Series 2.5" Solid State SATA II Hard Drive - 120GB
Cons:-No trim app for 64-bit Windows yet.-Need various tweaks if you're not using Windows 7.-Make sure to get a 2.5"->3.5" adapter!-Running benchmarks is probably the fastest way to cut down performance.-Price; Obviously it's a lot more than regular HDDs.

Pros:-Absurdly fast, no noise or heat concerns.-OCZ forum and support are active and helpful.-Completely no-nonsense install on W7RC-No moving parts = great for laptops!
Comment:
Test build: Q6700 Desktop, X38 board, Windows 7 x64 RCShipped with latest firmware - you can tell from the title in the BIOS. Was as simple as plugging it in and installing Windows 7 RC off the DVD. W7 handles alignment fine by itself, so the only tweaks you need to look at are:-Moving the browser cache-Turning off indexingWith or without those tweaks, the drive has been great. Noticeable app loadtime improvements, and more importantly, you can still do things while apps are loading. Even a full virus scan doesn't hurt you in responsiveness. Boot time is also improved, although it's mostly noticeable in that the moment the desktop appears, you're good to go; no waiting on startup apps. The cost is no joke, but you'll likely get a more tangible performance benefit out of this drive than you would from upgrading a CPU or GPU in a lot of cases. Highly recommended for desktops or laptops.

OCZ Vertex Series 2.5" Solid State SATA II Hard Drive - 120GB
Cons:PRICE!!!!!!Unknown durabilityHave to do quite a bit of tweaking

Pros:Superior transfer rateLower access timeOCZ Support and FW updates
Comment:
I bought 2 of those drives to do some testing. At first, i wasn't impressed at all... I tested these on different RAID setups using an Adaptec 1220SA card. I quickly discovered these drives were way too fast for this card to handle one, let alone two! Transfer rates hovered around 110 MB/sec which is way lower than even a single drive can do. Furthermore, Windows would freeze now and then with no apparent reason, especially after login. Then I switched to the onboard ICH8R controller: what a difference! A single drive was around 220 MB/sec which is double of the Adaptec. In RAID 1 the setup wasn't quite as good, with some low performances as low as 40 MB/sec in some places (could be my fault). Then I found a great guide on OCZ forum on how to setup these in RAID-0 and now.... I am REALLY impressed at the speed! I got 490 MB/sec reads, and lowest speed was 390 MB/sec.Overall, this is still a very new technology and it requires a few tweaks such as partition alignment, disabling swap files and prefetch and a couple of others. However, the performance is incredible, the whole system just feels snappier! We are definitly not too far from the concept of "instant" computing! Also you can find a lot of guides and support on OCZ forums. Word of warning, I urge you to upgrade the firmware to the latest version as soon as you get them as it erases all their content.

Don't even consider an old spinning platter hard drive. Check speeds and prices, as there are significant variances. Excellent performance and price.

As fast as intel x25m.. but better value/cost
Comment:
the speed of this drive is great so far the fastest available for the price I also have an intel x25m 80 GB that cost a bit more than this 120GB OCZ (bought the intel before the ocz was available) Firmware update is much easier on the intel though. Great drive for the price - this improvement can make your 3 year old laptop run like a brand new machine. -for windows use this utility to Tweak for SSD http://members.westnet.com.au/elpamyelhsa/elpamsoft/SSDTweaker.zip

OCZ Vertex Series 2.5" Solid State SATA II Hard Drive - 120GB
Cons:Price.

Pros:Incredibly fastSmall size, can mount it anywhere.Saves power.Almost no heat.Vibration and shock proof.Impressive results in RAID 0.
Comment:
This drive absolutely destroys my old pair of RAID 0 74GB Raptors in every imagineable benchmark! The new found silence is much appreciated too. My rig no longer sounds like a coffee grinder...lol! My computer just feels much "snappier" now. Clicking on something, such as opening a program, results in an instant response. It doesn't have to grind away and think about it for a while anymore. Very impressed so far, just have to see how durable it is.Yeah, the price is high but it's still less than I paid for my Raptors a few years ago, so I'm not going to complain. For those who can wait I'm sure the price will come down quickly because SSD technology is moving at an incredible pace these days.
