Patriot Xporter XT Rage 8GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive
Cons:Contacts not protected when retracted

Pros:Fast, reasonable price (as of 2011/12/15)
Comment:
Fast reads and writes and at a good price. It works well as a system drive in a small Linux server or Linux desktop. Due to its low profile and fast writes, it works great as a dedicated internal flash drive. The only drawback is that the contacts are exposed to dirt and moisture when the hood is retracted. A real cover would work better. As supplied, it's not a good pocket or key chain drive.

Rapidly for large files. Capless design, Does advertised speeds, Bootable, nice rubberized really feel.see other thougths Larger size. i miss my X-mini's...write speed slowdown on little files lost it 1 egg. On Win7 64bit, this thing writes 25MBs+ for large files. i've hit 40MBs! it falls to 18-20MBs... or lower on smaller files. Nonetheless fast as most others on little files. This works fantastic for me, as when i copy files to one it is typically for awhile. i use mine to image computers via USB boot selection. Uncomplicated to use diskpart and bootsect on to make bootable. Bought the 16GB too and would/will buy more! I run a VM on the 16GB. I like the capless style.. but not so a lot at the expense of space in my pocket. Make an x-mini similar to this.. i don't even care about the caps.. i throw them away... just blow out the lint ahead of you plug it in.

Patriot Xporter XT Rage 8GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive
Comment:
Good write speed, above 30MB/s. Extremely pleased with the manufacturer. Somewhat tiny and compact. Sliding cover means you can't shed the cap or cover. Size won't permit room to use 2 flash drive close to every other. Slide covers allows the USB to be protected, unless it moves whilst in your pocket. It went via the wash and dry cycle TWICE and works fine. I've given that begun keeping it on a lanyard and not in my pocket.

Fast drive. Here are the test results from Crystal Disk Mark:Sequential Read : 31.106 MB/sSequential Write : 22.237 MB/sRandom Read 512KB : 31.197 MB/sRandom Write 512KB : five.522 MB/sRandom Read 4KB : 4.560 MB/sRandom Write 4KB : .097 MB/s Test Size : 100 MB None truly. The slider style often bugs me when I'm trying to put the drive in a USB port and it slides shut. I might finish up gluing it open.

Comment:
- greater than typical speed - a tad too wide & too thick to fit any of my rear usb ports- a tad too wide to fit my front usb ports if anything else is in the other port howdy y'all,i think i would prefer the connector slide OUT than have the cover slide back. the "sliding-cover" outcomes in the cover getting partially opened when i put it in my pocket. also, it's annoying to have to have to get rid of any other usb device just before i can plug this 1 in.the speed is nice! [*grin*] take care, lee Manufacturer Response:Dear Valued Consumer,We appreciate your useful feedback. The reason why the drive is slightly wider is to accommodate the housing for the capless slide. If you have any technical questions regarding your Rage drive please don't hesitate to get in touch with support@patriotmem.com.Thank You for choosing Patriot Memory!Regards,Patriot Memory Support

Patriot Xporter XT Rage 8GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive
Comment:
Absolutely a rapidly drive. I like the rubberized coating. The red plastic part of the construction seems thin and too easily breakable.* (see below) It's a little bulky, but one more slim USB cable or flash drive fits suitable subsequent to it. I think it's a small on the wide side an might not fit too properly in a USB slot that has tight access. * The thin "waist section" of this flash drive causes me to guard it when it's sticking out of my desktop or laptop . . . which is a Excellent factor. I was careless when long ago and snapped a colleagues flash drive. None of these factors are un-breakable, besides if they were, something would have to give . . . and I'd rather it not be the PC!

Gave this to my girlfriend and she loves it. She has a MacBook. She says it's quick. I get 30MB/Sec when transferring stuffs to my Win7 x64 box.I own the older style of this identical device. I prefer the rubber on mine but the sliding style of this new one is truly cool. Not rubber. It's plastic.

Patriot Xporter XT Rage 8GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive
Cons: A bit fat - might have trouble fitting in confined spaces.

Pros: Speed, especially write speed.
Comment:
Just got this today and thought I'd check out it's speed. Copied a folder with over 1100 pictures in it totaling around 4gb and got 18MB/s write speed. Quite impressive. Now lets hope it's as durable as my old 2gb Kingston (it survived going through the laundry 2x, living without it's cap for 2 years and then being left in a puddle of flux for a day - cleaned it up and it still works!). The downside of this flash drive is it's stubby fatness. Might have trouble fitting it in some tighter spaces.

Patriot Xporter XT Rage 8GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive
Cons: The sliding cap always open by itself in my pocket

Pros: Small and fast....and well priced for the performance
Comment:
I want something fast to use portable applications, and this one can load those program quickly. The read speed of 25megsec is good but the write speed is ahead of nearly any other usb key outthere.
