Rosewill RC-211 PCI Express SATA II (3.0Gb/s) Controller Card
Comment:
I'm receiving prepared to buy one more of these cards for a new machine, what a excellent buy! The most critical thing about this tiny card is, it really supports sensible tracking of your drives! In addition it runs at 300, most of these kinds of cards in this price tag range are limited to 150. It has run flawlessly for over 2 years on a machine that has gone by way of Windows XPsp3, Vista Small business and now Windows 7 Specialist 32, and now 64. The ideal small card I've ever seen, bar none. The a single downside is, it delays the boot time in Windows 7. I'm not certain why since I have the most recent BIAS installed, and it auto-installs the most current BSOD drivers from Windows update, which is truly great. When your boot bias hits the Raid screen, it delays for approx 45 seconds, ahead of it continues. It doesn't bother me at all due to the fact I only reboot after a week or so, but it could get annoying to an individual who turns their machine on and off every single day. That's the only downside I can see. I use mine for JBOD, but I've heard the raid software for this little gem is excellent too, just go to their website for a PSD version if you require it, the a single they give you is fairly challenging to read [it's modest]

Dropped into a custom WHS construct with an ECS 945GCT mobo. Linked the drives, booted up, loaded drivers and restarted. No issues. Value is suitable. None so far. Needed a couple SATA ports to expand my storage. This card *should* work with a addronics port multiplier, so when I will need to expand yet again I must be capable to drop in the PM and drop in a few drives. We'll see.

Comment:
l plugged two of these cards into my hackintosh, soon after first disabling the RAID BIOS via the supplied jumper. This makes it possible for the card to present two independent SATA ports. The cards function quite effectively with little variation in speed as compared to the mobo sata ports. Does not come with cables, nonetheless, not adequate to warrant removal of an egg.Rosewill does not present native drivers for non-RAID use you have to download the generic drivers from the Silicon Image internet site.NO Smart STATUS obtainable when making use of generic drivers in OSX at this time. It is possible as there are third party utilities (for windows) that can supply Sensible information.Removed one egg for this inconvenience. Plug and play was the name of the game, copying information is great and fast... a lot much better than the PATA to SATA adaptor I was utilizing previously!I really hope Rosewill implements Intelligent status reporting working under OSX... I like to keep track of the well being of my drives!

Rosewill RC-211 PCI Express SATA II (3.0Gb/s) Controller Card
Comment:
Great data storage for the value. With port multipliers, handles up to 8 disks. Didn't essentially purchase it for information storage, but the rest of the reviews point to reliable operation for straight-up data RAID usage. Purchased this card to run a simple two-disk RAID 1 for primary OS, and ran in to a plethora of problems. Attempting to enter on-card BIOS triggered my method to hang up at the motherboard BIOS screen, no matter what I tried. Had to run the GUI utility on another install to get the card configured. Configuring for a normal RAID Group seemed to function fine, but when running a Legacy RAID Group so I could boot from it, it interfered with a PCIe x16 graphics card on my system, and prevented me from booting on any media. Spent a complete two days attempting unique configurations. At some point, I got a solid answer from a Rosewill tech, saying that each cards had been attempting to use the identical IRQ line. Generally, in Legacy mode, the card isn't compatible with most PCIe xN cards. As I've stated, if you just require information storage, this appears like an outstanding remedy for the cost. Wouldn't trust it for anything beyond that.

I can't feel of any for anything I could not get to work. Did not function for me. I tried for a couple hours and could not get Windows XP to recognize the card. Tried with and devoid of the drive attached. Tried new drivers. Tried with an msconfig clean startup. Drivers will install, then I get an error: This device can not start. (Code 10) If it would have worked that would have been wonderful. Soon after acquiring the card and then spending yet another ű to ship it back, I assume I'll see what other vendors have to provide.

Board operates really well. Following acquiring an M4N79 Deluxe mobo, I found that all the sata ports need to have to run a single RAID. I have two SSD's and 2 HDD's that I wanted to run as separate RAIDS, the SDD's for the OS and programs and the HDD's for documents. With this board, the HDD's work as a second striped array and the SDD's as a quickly OS striped array. It's software RAID from what I've read.

Operates like it's supposed to, low-cost, uncomplicated. Had to download new drivers from the site, drivers included gave me an "unexpected error 񢪌). Right after download, ran wonderful. I'd possibly acquire again, worth the income, and you should download new drivers from the net technically anyway. Although, I normally like to wait until my program is installed.

Finally figured it out and functions wonderful ever considering that. I bought this to use as a raid boot device for my 2x150GB Raptors. After upgrading to an Asus M3A79-T DELUXE I found that the on board raid only worked if all connected HDDs had been employed in the array so I bought this card so I could maintain my information HDDs out of my OS array. At 1st I couldn't get it to boot windows so I tried a fresh install with no luck. after researching additional I was lead to believe this card can't be utilised to boot from but I nevertheless didn't give up. Ultimately I installed windows with the driver for this card on a USB flash drive and loaded the driver for the duration of the windows install approach which worked flawlessly. Perhaps this will assist others with related troubles. Took a even though to set up simply because of inexperience with raid setups. From what I've learned about this card it can be helpful in numerous unique methods so don't give up on it devoid of exploring a lot of possibilities. Somewhat uncomplicated to install. Functions effectively. Connected to two drives in RAID0 configuration. Affordable and successful upgrade for almost doubling the drive data access rate. And yes, I do have a every day backup technique (Ghost) given that statistically the failure rate is also doubled when going to RAID . Install disk does not come with Windows 7 drivers and drivers are not included in the Windows 7 install disk. Since of the Con listed above ... When undertaking a scratch install onto the array, drivers have to be first downloaded and burned to a CD (using an additional technique). The CD then gets utilised when W7 install asks for the drivers. (*Tip*) Right after loading the drivers, the array still won't show up till you reinsert the W7 install CD and hit the 'refresh' button.

Not positive if there really are any Had a problem receiving Windows 7 to recognize the raid 1 array...I had the drives setup as dynamic so I formatted them and everything was excellent.Transfers fell on my Seagate 7200.12 250 GB from about 100 MB/sec to around 80MB/sec. Not positive it is genuinely worth going with this card more than a Windows 7 software program raid. Yes it is possible and I have accomplished it twice with the primary boot drive (even although MS says it doesn't work). The purpose I wanted to attempt this out over the Windows raid was when you shed power the array rebuilds and thrashes the drive for over two hrs. Properly the same thing takes place with this card, but It doesn't thrash it as substantially. On my other machine that has it built into the MB I never see this problem. Not confident which way I will go on this but I'd rather have the speed more than the rebuild of the array that takes place perhaps when a year?

Operates as simply an extra SATA port for a software RAID setup, which is what I wanted. Just plug it in in Linux, and you're very good to go. Can't boot from it with my DVD drive (haven't tried booting from a tricky disk attached to the card). I disabled the BIOS on the card with the jumper, since I just wanted to use it as an extra port for a software program RAID five. This prevents the card's BIOS from adding several seconds to my boot.

Can do bootable RAID ! Only two SATA ports. :( - My two G.Ability Phoenix Pro (sandforce) 60gb in RAID had been blazing quick but nowhere near as rapid as usually advertised on evaluation internet websites. ** Not confident its the controller's fault **- I had troubles finding my laptop or computer back from sleep mode (read instant crash and reboot). ** I'm not confident if its related to this item ** or if it was my motherboard. General, I do advise this product. :)

The moment you unplug the DVD-Rom drive, it functions completely :P. Tiny, low-cost, plastic seemed fine to me. Tech help was good but could've been faster. Doesn't perform with DVD-Rom drives. I was basically attempting to discover replacement SATA II ports mainly because my new GTX260 covered them. Tech assistance was great but could've been more rapidly, waited like 3 hours to call me back but eventually got the challenge solved myself when they told me to do without the dvd-rom.Manual was terrible, but did the job if you had been attempting to set up a RAID. (I have no experience with RAID but could've completed it). I wish I bought the right issue to solve my dilemma and didn't have to RMA?

Puts RAID in a mobo that doesn't have it on-board for a decent cost. Add an expansion cable to RAID up to 5 drives per channel. Simple install. Like most of these low-spending budget RAID cards, the RAID processing is offloaded to the CPU, so account for that in your mobo/CPU selection, or go w/ discrete processing (like highpoint or Promise-considerably much more expensive!) It functions for it's objective.

It worked as the manual says the second time about...I don't ding a item an egg if it works as it is supposed to, but I have to ding one egg as the 1st was DOA. Also really slim for tight spots. Managed to get it to boot a Raid with two 300gb vraptors but seemed way slow...didn't bother benchmarking as motherboard Raid was definitely faster. Believed it could not perform for me. Can't do to software Raid (mb and RC-211) Might not perform if you already have a software Raid for windows boot. I must have identified this. Pleasantly shocked with my motherboard ASRock 880GMH Raid Raid boot with an typical transfer rate improvement of 44%. Just didn't come from this card which is now relegated to expanding Sata ports.
