Performs fantastic with linux. It identifies itself as a Prolific 2303. I enabled the pl2303 module in the kernel, and it functions fantastic for logging into Cisco Pix's and several other networking devices such as Alvarion and Trango wireless broadband radios. As generally, Newegg got it right here with the quickness. None.

Low-cost Challenging to install. Lastly got it to install below Vista by following the directions for the "A" series Vista drivers, letting the install fail, and letting Vista "find a resolution" - which was to run Windows Update and download an updated driver.

The unit worked very first time on 3 unique Computer's.Installation was extremely straightforward once the right driver is downloaded.Quite happy with this unit. I installed it in a client site with non-technical customers and have received no complaints. The old serial barcode scanner is operating exactly as it did on the old Computer. The CD in the box did not contain drivers for Windows Vista or Windows 7. I had to download the right driver from the web page offered by 'AK':http://www.prolific.com.tw/eng/downloads.asp?ID៳That mentioned, as soon as I had this driver the installation was easy. The adapter will assign itself a unique COM port if you plug it into a unique USB port. Make certain you generally plug it into the same USB port each and every time or you will have to reconfigure either the COM port of the adapter or the COM port utilized by your computer software (the former is a lot less difficult, btw).

Drivers installed/set up/ and operating in two minutes. I didn't encounter any driver install problems like some have had. XP SP2 did not auto-detect, but the included disc had the driver so this is not an concern. Fired correct up immediately after driver install...no issues. The mini-disc was slightly utilised when I got it. Somebody left their finger print. Get in touch with CSI! I went the cheapo route with this a single so I could hook up my GPS. Performs sweet. Please note the bolt gender of what you're adapting. This a single has male bolts as does my GPS cable so they don't lock with each other. If you're picky and require a device continually connected, you may well want to watch the bolt gender for a clean set up. It's a the moment week speedy plug in for me so I went low cost and "modified" my GPS cable. Operates nice.

Makes it possible for the use of serial elements in computers that do not have serial ports. Was plug & strategy in Ubuntu Linux - serial ports show up as /dev/ttyUSB0 Ƒ, 2). I don't like the way the securing screws operate. Your serial device plugs into this device, each have turn knobs, and you use these tiny nuts that both sides screw into.

Functions just fine and seemingly stable as a USB to serial converter must. The drivers do perform from disk, but it is tricky determining which one to use (I chose incorrect ones at first). Note the details on the drivers For the cost, I will deal with the driver issue. Works properly as soon as setup.

Functions excellent - Vista 32-bit found it instantaneously! Didn't even want to install any drivers! None! I use this with an added cable to connect my Vista 32-bit House Premium Laptop to my Vintage Commodore Amiga 2000 Pc. Functions fantastic for old school file transfering through "NULL MODEM" connection!

Worked, with a couple tries. Hooked my G@#$%N 76 GPS to my new Pc which doesn't have serial 9 pin. Transferred a tiny quantity of position/route information to a nicely-known free of charge photo-map plan with wonderful results. Was substantially cheaper than related oem item. Took a likelihood receiving this one particular, paid off. Newegg as usual got it right here snappy and right! Took a handful of minutes for Vista to hunt down a driver and a tiny glitchy on transfer at 1st try, but I switched ports and did the job in the finish. Connector doesn't screw together right, but who cares, it's not on a battleship more than right here, so it works fine. GPS says 'transfer complete', but it's incorrect, wait for the plan to ack. the upload prior to closing. Guess it has to get the information out from the cable itself?

Function flawless following installing the driver (very essential) also this has a quite prevalent chip located in higher end models(so if you loose the cd you can always come across the driver on the web). Works just fine with cisco console cables setting it to 9600 and no flow manage (setup recommended by cisco.) None. This has a actual chip in it. you can locate a cheapo (as i fell for also) that will not operate for most factors. At least i got my money back and got this 1. YAY!Its significant to know that they have a good chip on that board in the adapter pl2303 is a genuinely great 1.

It gives a serial port on a machine with none right after it's fixed. It wouldn't work. It was attempted on two various machines. It's not even a Rosewill - it's a Prolific. w/e It price Ű, so it would have been stupid to waste time and shipping to return it, (would cost much less to just purchase a distinct 1) so I ripped it apart to uncover that the heat shrink on the shield was in 2 pieces and appropriate at the split, the shield was sitting on a surface mount component. I taped it up, put it back together and it worked fine. Come on, guys, let's take two seconds to look at it just before you send it out the door, huh?

Nice straightforward to use shape, 11" cord is excellent for my wants, Installed drivers from mini CD onto Vista Property Premium with no conflicts or issues in Device Manager. Good cost Does not function for what I got it for as it looks like it is not fully RS232/DB9 compatible. A am an Ametuer radio operator and wanted to use this to program my radios. Attempted it with 3 well-known radio programing softwares and all gave me a 񔽴 Error" It did function with RT's Com Port test software program though but I don't use there programing software program. Even tweeked the Com Port advanced settings to see if this would help. Checked this error code on the MS web site. Feasible incorrect driver. Went to Rosewill website and downloaded the one they had there and located it was older then the supplied driver. Installed anyway and had conflicts and complications when I checked the Device manager. Gave it 2 eggs since it might work for some points but what superior is that. If this item works for you, wonderful just don't loose your supplied drivers on the mini CD or at least till they update the 1 on there web site.
