It works the instant it's put in the computer ,reads and writes on all disks.Samsung's site is also superior for their drive's firmware. None that can be identified. Newegg has been my major supplier for laptop parts for pretty much five years. I have not have problems with them. Their pricing is comparatively reasonable. The delivery was practically immediate no matter what the item was. I do not know their RMA. There was not an opportunity for me to even attempt it.Newegg - that's the way to go. I am not connected in anyway with Newegg except as a client.

Have been fighting a Lite On drive that I installed when I built my program about 3 yrs. ago. It makes coasters about 20% of the time with no rhyme or reason. Had tried 2x, 8x, 16x burns, with distinct media. No joy. Saw this Sammy for ย and decided to attempt it. Excellent concept. Have burned many big film files that failed repeatedly w/ the Lite On unit, initially time and at full speed.Difficulty solved. The Lite if off, Sammy's in the residence. trivial installation. exchanged it for LiteOn unit, XP didn't even flinch - like nothing happened, oh except my dvd's burn first time each and every time - so far. Get 1. Rapid, quiet, and inexpensive.

Worked to install Windows on a buyer's machine, and fine afterwards. This was an old Via KT-600A based board. See "cons." When it functions, it is quiet and really can burn above 16x on some DVD blanks. The maximum speed I saw was 20.1x. Did not operate properly on TWO of my machines, an Asus M2N-E SLI, my principal machine, and an Asus M2N4-SLI, my test machine, both getting nVidia nForce 500 SLI chipsets. In textmode, the very first stage of Windows installation, it could not read the DVD. As soon as Windows setup got beyond this point (protected mode) it worked fine. I did not notice this strange behavior until I tried to reinstall Windows (any version) on my test machine. Then it wasted a lot of time, hence the low rating. The vendor did not respond to my questions about this. They either do not realize it, or do not believe it. Far more reasons for the low rating. The symptoms of the problem are noticed when you boot on the Windows install disk. Generally nothing happens except a blank screen. If it goes further you ultimately get a message that one or a different file can not be read, following ten or fifteen minutes. This changes every single time you attempt an install. Once again, the difficulty does not take place on all motherboards. This is an odd problem. It is definitely the initial time I have ever noticed anything like this, but I carefully verified it on two machines. Possibly a firmware update would fix it, nonetheless my sample has the most up-to-date version. I have not had troubles with any other IDE device connected to these boards, and because I use them for service and testing, connect a lot of issues to them.

best fit, function as described. none I needed to replace two older cdrw drives in two computer without having getting to spend lots of money. I swapped the older 1 for these drives, and the comp recognized them;no issues.the only thing,and its minor, is i wish they came with some decoding software program. they are a good acquire imo

Inexpensive DVD Burner that functions fantastic! Can't think this tech is still required...go away already! Got this to compliment the Blu-ray drive. I use it for all my dvd burning so i can save the Blu-ray drive's motor. Chances are it's not creating a distinction in the overall life of the Blu-ray drive, but it's good to have. Ultimately it's not utilized that often given that all of my media has been copied to the server HDD and I only add blu-ray movies to the collection. Either way, it's good to have and I can't complain about the cost!

Quiet and stable. Spins up fairly quick. Seems to like Win7 okay, as opposed to some I've had. Wasn't no cost. Can't appear to effectively burn at much more than 8x, but could be my method.

Low price and easy to install. Do maintain the screws and cable from your old drive, although. This drive as effectively as the SH-S222L take about 20-30 seconds for the drive to recognize it has a disk inserted. As soon as the activity light goes out, it will read the disk. Burns quick is still only ide Laz what you want to do is suitable click my pc and go to hardware tab. Open Device manager and go to ide/ ata/atapi controllers and expand it. Go to the primary ide channel and delete it then restart your laptop or computer so it will reinstall itself. Anytime you have a drive that reads errors right after the 3rd time it sets itself to pio mode instead of DMA mode by reinstalling it you will go back to DMA mode and get your speed back.

The hardest component was acquiring into the case of an aging Dell 2400. Once I swapped it for a CD only unit it was literally plug and play. Would have felt a lot more comfortable with written documentation but it turned out not to be important.

I want to retract my last assessment, I discovered it was my laptop or computer, not the 2 burners I bought and it was not neweggs fault as I suggested. As far as I know these open box burners perform ok. none Sorry newegg. I purchase here a lot and have no complaints

Full data dvd. ྰx) doesn't come with any software program, but its OEM. . . don't have any 22x disks to test full speed Nice, smaller quiet. about the very best your going to get for an older PC without having SATA. didn't give me any trouble at all. nice drive.

Price is always a consideration. I had been looking for a DVD/CD Burner at many name brand stories. I was able to acquire two of these Samsungs on sale at newegg for the cost of one of the name brand stores models.They installed rapidly in each our Windows 7 and Vista PCs. They are quiet and fast. The fit the bill very nicely for what we had been searching for and at a Terrific Price.I was also quite pleased with neweggs' shipping. We are in the NE and they ship these out of NJ. The shipping has been quicker from newegg than from any person out of CA or the Midwest. None so far

For the income, this appears to work fine (on day 1.) Worked right out of the box, and works like stated. It's just a data DVD burner/reader for me that I use rarely, so it should do me. For those who use it for much a lot more, it's pretty low cost seeking. 1 egg due to the fact of deceptive advertising on NewEgg's component. There is a Samsung SH-S222A out there, but this is not it. It's actually a TSST Corp SH-S222A, which is a joint venture known as "Toshiba Samsung Storage Technology". It may possibly well be identical to Samsung, but NewEgg didn't state it, so I was a bit appalled to see TSST hardware identified. Also, no paperwork assist at all for the settings, even though NewEgg posts a photo of paperwork. Beware the low cost cost at Samsung. I'll be keeping my old beater Sony as a backup, as I fear this may c-rap out on me within a year.

this drive is a cheep but properly made drive i got it when it was ฤ with totally free shiping 2 years ago and it dose every factor it said i would. no drivers required a true plug and play device following 2 years of use the try stoped working but it indicates i will need to get an additional 1 very good drive for the price will get again
