Affordable DOA?!? Attempted on two systems (both function perfectly to my expertise) tried diverse cables, nothing at all would make the drive show up in anyway - stalled the BIOS also. and on 1 program triggered SATA CD drive to not be recognized - LAME

Functions; quick. I don't have any specs/test results to provide. It functions for what I need. None so far. Linux users: Debian couldn't uncover this drive. Ubuntu will locate it, even though. I have an Asus P7P55D Pro mobo, which says that it can't come across the drive, yet, it's listed in the bios menu (?).

Purchased this drive based on preceding experience and considerably investigation. I have an older Seagate that has been running fairly substantially 24ǝ for going on six years now without having a difficulty. Hope this one particular is as fantastic! Applied it in a new build for only the ops method and programs. Runs quiet and rapid. Great boot occasions for Windows 7, 64 bit. I know its not as fast as a Barracuda or a strong state drive, but then it was beneath fifty bucks too. Okay, so there is 1 thing - but not truly a con. Its the weak link in my WEI score at 5.9. Rest of the method is in the 6.9 to 7.five range. But, for the price-vs-value, I nevertheless wouldnt devote the income on a strong state drive - at least not yet. Would definately acquire once more!

Quick, worked, copied from my old one with Seagate software in just a couple of minutes. My con is truly a positive too, so read that. It is a comparable model to the 1 I had that died, but I have 28, and only 1 died in just under 3 years 񣚠.10 model 160 gig) I hope that a 3% failure rate in three years will be a three% rate in 6 years too.

Low Profile allowing for good airflow. Single platter design assists keep the temperature really low and power use below average for 7200 RPM 3.5" SATA drives. Performance is decent. Buffered reads using hdparm in a 2 disk RAID-1 is 101 MB/sec on an older SuperMicro Motherboard Seagate's good quality control seems to have gone down hill considering that the acquisition of Maxtor. I was once a die difficult Seagate fan, but in recent history I've identified myself drifting towards Samsung and WD. The 7200.12 series drives seem greater so far. I have three 500GB versions and now these two 160GB drives. I will post back in time with an update. Deployed two of these drives in a 1U server configured as RAID-1. The Supermicro chassis used required that the chassis fan be removed in order to mount two three.5" HDDs. The low temp of these drives under load is the only thing that allowed me to deploy the technique in an already dense rack.

We have been buying seagate drives religiously for more than 2 years now. The main cause is their high quality is outstanding. We have purchased more than 250 drives and have only had three failures. None If you do get a bad drive, the RMA procedure with seagate is straightforward and rapidly.

It ran, albeit poorly, for a couple of months. Drive just fully crashed on me. Neither windows nor any of my usual recovery tools can fix it. I have a WD drive that is sitting in an old laptop or computer, has run faithfully for 10 years. This thing dies in 6 months. Any question on what I'm going to go buy now??

Good drive - cheap price
Comment:
I bought this and installed it on an old XP system to replace a borked internal backup drive. Installed easily although I had to buy a power cable adapter to go from the 4-pin to ATA to power the unit. XP did not initialize the new drive, so had to do that manually.
